This is still one of the wickedest looking planes to ever fly! This on your 6 = lights out!
Yes, they are aesthetically quite ugly compared to other aircraft design. That said, looks like they were well thought out 4 a specific purpose and aesthetic looks were not the primary concern. Has to be something special to have stayed in service as long as it has in any case. Nicely photographed sir.
i was part of the original wing. the 18TH amu. 1982-83. at the time brand new a-10's. there was 'bird shit' on every bolt.

even without shooting one shot , it scares the enemy to death , what a mean looking machine, gotta love it
for all the flak the army and marines give the air force , this is by far the infantry's best friend and a very welcome sight to see on the battlefield

If you were an enemy tank and this was on your 6 or on anything else of yours then it would be one big fireworks show as the tank became one big bright Roman Candle.

And they call it ugly...
A-10's were flying training missions over my property this past week, it's usually F-16's. The A-10's looked almost motionless compared to the speed I am used to seeing with the F-16's, but hey, that's how the tank buster rolls!
They should just remove the sidewinders and add a couple more gun pods. Imagine having 2 M61 Vulcan gun pods plus your main 30mm, That would be awesome!

Not really. It's an attack aircraft not a fighter. If it were to go toe to toe with a fighter it would not fare very well. When it comes to taking out ground targets though it's pretty much second to none in it's ability to linger over the battlefield and systematically neutralize enemy armor and/or other assets.
They are LOUUUD!
B-52H's can and do that, look at Afghanistan, and they do it at VERY high altitudes. They can loiter up there for a long time, and drop munitions VERY accurately from high up.
I got to see it. AWESOME.
