    This is great, Brighton! I've been here three years and never have had the nerve to try to figure out the bus system. And hi to mi amiga Marisa! Great video. I'm passing it along to a friend of mine in the US who's planning a move down here and won't have a car.

    Very informative video. I can only imagine how it was for the lady in this video when she first started taking transit in Mexico. German cities are known for having an excellent public transit system.

    We are still stumped about the bus system in MX...like the lady said in Germany if it says bus #45 it is #45...in Puerto Vallarta it said on the app bus #X to take it from the station on this intersection, when we got to the intersection there is no bus station, we waited, we asked the locals and they pointed us to 3 blocks down, waited there again for 30min and there were 30 buses passing and none where we needed...the thing is that it says "Walmart" but which Walmart... etc...so no luck for us yet, but once we move there we will probably try and ride all of them for their full route until we learn the ones we need.

      There are bus numbers and an app in Puerto Vallarta? Way more than La Paz - but I guess it doesn't matter if it's not accurate. Check out @living simply in mexico on RUclips. They are located in PV and may have info on buses. ruclips.net/channel/UC8_Fa3s0mttXiArCPSxQmZw

    In the smaller cities you typically use the Combis to get around in. Same thing, only smaller. The other difference is that they make a continuous circuit from, say Huajúmbaro to Ciudad Hidalgo with the Combis arriving every few minutes. So no worries if you miss the bus. Keep in mind that they probably don't run 24/7. So plan ahead. And all of the Combis that I've seen have the destination printed on the bus.
    No need to yell in them, a "Combi" (or "Kombi" I suppose) is nothing more than a VW microbus. :)

      I've heard that the interstate buses are pretty safe with few problems, and you may have the option of taking one of the new toll roads, which are safer still. Let us know how you make out on your trip. :)

    Hey Mr BW on an unrelated subject. Thought of a couple of other "issues" to talk about. 1 Personal transportation in Centenario . i.e. On the dirt roads are 4 wheelers , golf carts etc. allowed ? What are the same roads like in the rain ?

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад

      That is a great topic. I need to film when it rains (which isn't often and if it rains enough, our road turns to mud and we typically don't leave the house.) Pretty much anything goes here. I think that the golf carts, etc aren't technically allowed on the highway, but I see them all the time!

      The bus leaves the end of the line on the hour. There’s no printed schedule. It goes by the church across from the police station park at about 10 minutes after the hour headed into downtown.
      One day I want to make a map…

    This is a very invaluable video, Brighton! I suspect I will be a bus riding mofo. However, I do have a german shepherd, that would come to Mexico with us (if we were moving there). I'm guessing dogs are not allowed on the buses?
    Do you have enough experience with the interstate bus network in Mexico that you could do a video on that? I am under the impression that is a common way to go visit other cities in Mexico; though I'd suspect it is more popular over on the mainland vice the baja where you are?

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад +1

      I don't think dogs are allowed. I haven't seen any. And most people would be confused by a German Shepherd - if a Mexican takes their dog out somewhere socially, they bring their small dog. Their big dog stays home to guard the house. That said, there's a gringo with a German Shepherd in La Paz that takes him everywhere.
      As to the long distance buses, I'm planning to take one for the first time on Tuesday (down to Cabo.) I'll be sure to make a video. I was going to do buses across the mainland, but that trip got cut short. I think they are pretty good - way better than in the US. There is also BlaBlaCar. It's a long distance Uber. I haven't tried it - that was also on my list for the trip that got cut short.

      @@AlmostRetiredinMexico Ok...yes, I figured as much. Though I had a slight fantasy of trying to expat without a car, it probably is a necessity, at least while we have a dog. Of course, would also have to work out lodging with a dog if we were traveling around the country.
      We do also have a travel trailer; but I assume the registration requirements for that would mirror having a US vehicle (it must go away once in resident status).

      I have interpreted that as long as you are just a temporary resident, you can use your US vehicle (as in try to make that work for 4 years)?

    Any bus route maps in oxxo??

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад

      No bus route maps anywhere. Some cities tried putting together online maps based on users tracking their movements. I think even Mexico City only has maps for their public rapid transit lines.
