Hailie Deegan Admits She's Been on 'Downward Spiral' and Questioned Her Ability and Racing Future

- Hailie Deegan knows her 2023 NASCAR Truck Series season has not gone as expected. Moving over to ThorSport Racing, an organization known for winning races and championships, everyone, including the driver, assumed her performance would improve over her first two years. It hasn't.
During the last few months, she hit the worst four-race stretch of her career and her confidence dropped with the poor results. This week, in an eye-opening interview with Kenny Wallace on his RUclips channel, the 22-year-old got candid and admitted that she's recently been on a downward spiral, which has included her questioning her own ability and her future in racing.

He should’ve stayed in ARCA a while longer. I don’t think she was there long enough to learn enough. Then her first truck team always told her to keep her left side on the paint. I don’t think she ever learned enough to be in the truck series now.

Absolutely incredible how much potential was wasted the moment she decided to be more of an influencer than a racer. I’m shocked Ford hasn’t pulled the plug on this experiment, cause it’s clearly not working. In fact, Ford needs to stop signing failed rich children “prospects” to drive their truck and Xfinity teams, and then wonder why they only won 3 Xfinity races in the last 2 seasons.
if she can’t do somewhat well in these last six races, then idk, i think it’s time to move on from HD potentially, hopefully that’s not the case but just trying to look at realistically
Danica, number two. Sara Fischer was far more qualified.
It just breaks my heart to see her running well and some body run her over or put her in a tough spot and she's wrecks herself. Plus the added pleasure on alot of really talented female racers waiting in the wings. That preasure is getting to her and is making her press a little to much. Let's hope these last races of the 2023 season aren't the last of her Nascar career

She's a bust, 4 top 10s in 4 years isnt setting the world on fire for anybody, dirt is for her thats where she needs to be.
Her performance in SRX shows that she has talent but she needs to stop making enemies in the Truck Series. Her rivalry with Lawless Alan cost her a good finish at Mid Ohio when he dumped her on the final lap and she made a new enemy at IRP, Landen Lewis, who wrecked her in revenge. I also think she needs more seat time in ARCA and Xfinity. She had great speed at Richmond and could have finished in the top 5 if her crew chief told her to pit earlier.
I never thought she could get enough experience/talent to make it to cup. She didn't start racing stock cars until later on. She seems to focus on her brand more than racing. Maybe she could do slightly better in xfinity, but does anyone really think she'd be competitive consistently? You are crazy if you do.
She has an argument about getting wrecked....to a point. She'll be running like 15th and get involved in something. That's just how it goes in trucks. That mid pack area is nothing to brag about and always dangerous. Plus, it isn't like she's been perfect. Here's the biggest thing though, she has never been running up front 1st/2nd/3rd in a race and actually competing. Sure, maybe a plate track she gets up there for a few laps like many drivers or due to a pit sequence, but she has never driven up through the field and battled for the lead. She has never had a serious shot at winning a truck race and to me, that says it all. She should have had at least 5 or so races where she was up there. It isn't like she's in trash equipment.
People say she gets pushed around and sometimes she does. But this season she’s always the one wrecking everybody. Just look at Dean Thompson. His playoffs chances were probably screwed over because of Deegan alone.

She was driving around more experienced drivers. Who were just out to have some fun. Whereas trucks is 90% kids with money who are highly impatient.

I certainly hope she can turn it around. I love watching her race and think she could do a lot better if the guys around her would quit trying to take her out, race after race. She's not that bad of a driver, and she needs only a chance to race like everyone else, instead of being turned into the wall. She is attractive, smart as hell, and really good for the sport, and I will support her until she decides to go to some other kind of racing.
