Happy 100th birthday Benny, you arent half missed. Superb word play, in stitches here at 45 years old listening to one of the finest comedians of our time.
This is a wonderful example of the verbal complexity that Benny Hill was a master of. Yeah, it depends somewhat on visual slapstick, but the majority is language driven, you just plain do not get his highly intricate rapid-fire wordplay from any modern comedian. It's funny that he rechristened himself after the great Jack Benny, but in my esteem he FAR surpasses his idol. He was brilliant and ahead of his time.
In terms of wordplay, there was none better than Ronnie Barker, but Benny knew how to make us laugh and laugh in more ways than one. His genius is unparalleled. He practically invented Brisith TV comedy during a time when they didn't have any clue how to do it. Everyone who calls himself a Sketch artist on TV owes him a debt of gratitude they can never pay him back. For all his efforts, the BBC unceremoniously dumped him from their line-up and Benny died of a broken heart more than anything else. To put his genius into perspective, the god of comedy Charlie Chaplin himself considered Benny Hill his favourite comedian...
the legend Benny Hill. Truly missed and never to be forgotten. I think it must have been so difficult to keep yourself from laughing when you are performing alongside Sir Benny. Truly a comedic genius!
Oh the sun and the rain fell from up above And landed on the earth below, In my garden of love Oh there's a rose for the way your spirits rose when we met, A forget-me-not to remind me to remember not to forget, A pine tree for the way I pined over you And an ash for the day I ashed you to be true And the sun and the rain fell from up above And landed on the earth below, In my garden of love Well there's a palm tree that we planted when we had our first date, A turnip for the way you always used to turnip late, Your mother and your cousin Chris, they often used to come So, in their honour, I have raised a nice chris-an'-the-mum Oh the sun and the rain fell from up above And landed on the earth below, In my garden of love Oh there's a beetroot for the day that you said that you'd beetroo' to me, A sweet pea for the sweet way you always smiled at me, But you had friends who needed you, There was Ferdy, there was Liza So in their honour, I put down a load of ferdy-liza And the sun and the rain fell from up above And landed on the earth below, In my garden of love But Gus the gardener's gone now and you went with him too, The fungus here reminds me of the fun Gus is having with you; The rockery's a mockery, with weeds it's overgrown, The fuchsia's gone, I couldn't face the fuchsia all alone And my tears fell like raindrops from the sky above, And poisoned all the flowers in my garden of love
Brilliant. Not only is it a charming song, it's also highly amusing. And Patsy has that superb melodic voice which makes it such a pleasure to listen to.
Fantastic! Benny Hill was an outstanding comic and his timing was so natural. He always looked like he was having fun, not working! thanks for posting.
Remember when growing up as a kid in the 70s 1st seeing Benny on tv with my late gran here in northern Ireland UK, born May 23rd 1968, My favourite of Benny is Ernie the fastest milkman in the West,, I was a milkman back in 1984 when I was 16 , after I left school,!
He was singing live here. He was a complete entertainer: good singer and dancer- great comedian and mime too. His facial expressions were priceless. He had a sad ending, like many comedians, unfortunately.
Qu'est ce que ça bien vieilli ! ça beau être en noir et blanc c'est super fin et drôle, en plus ils chantent super bien. Trop fort ces anglais, particulièrement Benny Hill 🤗
She has a voice to put you dreaming, and if I could capture her voice with tech stuff, I'd repeat her singing all night, to make me sleep... She has the voice of angels in this song...........
This girl is so perfect /Her hair and dress/ Now there’s a rose for the way my Spirits rose when we met, A forget-me-not to remind me To remember not to forget,
at 01:08 you can hear him laugh about himself and she is biting on her lips not to crack up ...and than back to concentration...thats what i call a pro! this man was absolutely brilliant! and he had a very good voice too...just my two cents!
One of his best skits ever, I wonder what was happening off stage question mark I knew there was a back story about this about how they had set him up with the gate, the flower and a lot of other things. He admitted that in an interview.
Patsy Ann Noble (Trisha) does a good job of stifling some laughter from 1:07 to 1:15. She is beautiful and has a lovely voice even though she's mostly an ornament for this number.
And to think just a few years earlier Patsy was just one of the many teen girl singers appearing on Australia's Brian Henderson's Bandstand and in those few short years ended up appearing on the Top rating Benny Hill Show in the UK not once but twice (here in January 1966 and again as Trisha Noble in December 1970).
Happy 100th birthday Benny, you arent half missed.
Superb word play, in stitches here at 45 years old listening to one of the finest comedians of our time.
Even if Benny could only be remembered for this song it would still place him head and shoulders above most other comedy writers. Brilliantly clever!
What a beautiful lady

@@nirmalsuki It was Thames that dumped him: he'd left the BBC by choice many years earlier
He took a lot from Bob Hope too, but he was a student of comedy worldwide.
Benny was just brilliant.
