Changed the rotors up to 160mm, and the gearing to 34 at the back and 34/52 at the front much the same as these bikes are specced these days. While extremely capable it was never a bike I loved and after 10 thousand km it was moved on. I like the look of the new Defy but have since found a bike that works for me and is huge fun to ride. And yet I'm wondering how good this new Defy really is...

To anyone wondering why giant is always the best value for money: they make most of the things you see on the bike (keeps costs low) under their own roof (saves transportation costs), they don’t have a massive marketing department they have to pay, and they make a lot of the metal bikes and carbon that other companies sell as their own. Not to mention they lease space to almost every major brand. Check out their mtbs compared to their direct competitors. It’s ridiculous. Giant is a seriously good bike. And they treat you to a price which reflects reality. Long live.

no, I do not think so, it is something that is easily managed if taken to a right shoip or made correctly, i think companies are paying way more attention to qc for those bikes with pressfit now after all the drama, but if needed you can get a nice machined bb that is a one piece or threads into each other and that will solve any issue
It is a great bike but 12k way ? Frame £3000 , Cadex £2400 , Sram red £2500 and other bits let say £1000 is around 9k which is not acceptable anyway 😅, right will carry on on my current custom buit bike for another 6 month then will look again 🤣🍺

@@chriswheeler3147oh no big deal at all. But yes to be honest it is very common. So much humidity and salt in the air people don’t clean and service there bikes are they should. There are so many people on bikes down here that sound like squeaky bird cage

Just bought a road machine 01 three for $5100, ultegra DI2, better carbon wheel set that isn’t hookless. There’s nothing I see here that makes this worth $7000 more.
For an age the only Giant worth having was the TCR. The Propel was a brick, ugly and uncomfortable and the Defy was also a brick. The new Propel and Defy are streets ahead of the old models.
Giant was always like Skoda, they made affordable versions of the Audi you actually want but can’t afford. So not sure what the current pricing is all about. The majority of people in a position to spend that sort of money are not going to buy a Giant. They’re going to want a Specilzed, something Italian or similar badge and that’s the reality.
Such a shame,ruined by the hideous stem and limitations with stem fit compatibility due to cable integration,proprietary spacers and oversized steerer.
@jasonlevitt I've had far too many issues. Also, there are plenty of videos cutting giant frames in half, showing poor quality/defects. Yes, Their frames come out of Taiwan like many companies.

It is an awesome bike! I love my 2024 SL1 crazy light, very comfortable and very sporty! I am sure the customer is going to love it!!!

I still ride a Defy 2012 of which still does the job. Also , I've even won road races on it.Its not even 7kg, as I have lightweight wheels on it.

14k in Aus and hookless wheels is a big turn off. Hopefully new TCR looks like this though.
I’ve been running hookless now for three years on a Revolt and they’ve been fine. That said my biggest issue with them is the lack of approved tyres.

The SRAM Red is rated for the 10-36? I thought the Red was only good to 33? Have owned a '15 and now a '19, love the model.
The braze on solution is a miss if you can’t put on any bottle cage there.

Giant makes 70% of the major brands bikes. The QC of Giant bikes is literally the best in the industry…which is why everyone uses them as their ODM.
