I watched Berserk and I agree with @russelbeepath1064. It really is a masterpiece. I did not see any other anime as beautifully executed at Berserk. Kentaro Miura was a real talent.

Well I own 4 of the 10 on the list.......don't judge. If you liked the movie Eyes Wide Shut and were a very finely folded Aluminum hat (tin hats went out of style years ago) then Speed Grapher is right up your alley. The odd thing about Shigurui Death Frenzy is the color pallet is so understated and it is just beautiful. Sure the story is as harsh as anything I have ever seen. Most interesting is that there are no good characters at all - which in and of itself is unique as hell. A great watch!

The ironic part is a few of these were absolutely amazing Manga that I read with few regrets. Particularly Freezing and Blade of the Immortal have really good stories. And of course Berserk too, but it's the goat of the dark fantasy genre.

I got Rin from a Dollar General a few months back, with no idea what it actually was. I’m glad they had the good sense to mark it as a mature item in their inventory, though it’s intended audience is pretty blatant from the cover. The series itself was definitely a ride, and I really liked the time skips changing the setting between the episodes. The sci-fi surreal plot was good, and the “X” was indeed plentiful and often pretty intense. It’s not for the feint of heart or content averse (S assault and torture especially), but I can honestly say I enjoyed the actual plot. The “plot” meanwhile was shocking, but for me, in a good way. Very much had moments of “Oh my god, they actually went there.” in the first few episodes. It sometimes felt like stumbling across those old low poly anime gifs back in the 2000s/2010s. The ones with the laser and the spear and whatnot (If ya know, ya know). All in all, 7/10 might be generous, but I hadn’t watched an anime in awhile, so it had the benefit of re exposing me, and I genuinely enjoyed it.
Berserk is still an untouchable anime. Nothing is anyway close to that masterpiece, but we really need more animes like it tho. Recently I been loving comedy isekai anime, but these extreme violent animes with "X" is needed. Its honestly so damn hard to get an anime for really mature audiences that doesn't hide everything and make us watch black screens during fights. @Endslikecrazy and all those idiots are still waiting for their precious manga to end. The 97 anime trimmed the token japanese character tropes, like puck, and streamlined the golden age arch to focus on guts and griffith. The story is much better than its manga counterpart because of it.
Fun fact, both Shigurui: Death Frenzy and Blade of the Immortal were both directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki. He also directed Texhnolyze, Steins;Gate and the first season of Terraformars. He's got a very iconic directing style that you'll no doubt pick up on. I can't wait to see what he directs next. Orange was probably the most tame show he's done so far.

Loved Berserk definitely deserves the number 1 slot, the recent additions to it I didn’t even bother with..will be going to read source material next. Seen a couple others from the list; Blade of the Immortal and Shigeru etc… Think you should’ve added Goblin Slayer and Redo by Healer… if you haven’t seen em…they don’t disappoint.
Gantz should have made the list. But I really enjoy mature titles cause animation still gets lumped into a genre for children instead of a artistic vision.
Studio Eclypse will be doing a fan-made take on Berserk with no CGI and has claimed that they will hold true to the Black Swordsman arc material as much as possible, and by the looks of the sneak peak, the animation looks similar to that of Castlevania. Strap in folks, this might just be the adaptation we've all been waiting for since Golden Age.
Love every one of these! Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne is one of the best series out there and with so few episodes and Black Lagoon is my all time favorite series, period. Wish Lagoon was still going as long as crap like One Piece runs. Shigurei is another that gets missed in a lot of compilation lists of the greats and seriously deserves more hype...folks don't know what they're missing!
Shigurui Death Frenzy had darkness, depth & substance, one of the first anime I saw that kept me in shock, some scenes I remember them vividly to this day, I watched it at least 15 years ago, when torrents were the norm.

I think you missed one that, personally, I believe should have made this list; The Sacred Blacksmith. Lots of violence and action, as well as the X factor. Also, Basilisk was definitely an awesome anime, I loved it. I will have to watch Freezing, as your recap of it made me think it's worth a shot.
wow, someone seen the Sacred Blacksmith! (It doesn't have the s'x/mature scenes though, but lots of fanservice/ecchi, focusing on the bo'ob'as, and even with lots of 'bo'ob'a humor included too)
Basilisk was a good anime. It had a live action movie too, but with a different title called Shinobi, but it's basically the exact same anime adaptation.
Freezing was actually pretty lit. I want to say this was on Netflix back when they first launched as a streaming service. They had a couple good ones like Gungrave too.
It's such a shame that Miura died before finishing Berserk. The human loss is tragic first and foremost of course, but I'm not sure anybody else will be able to follow his vision for the series.
Freezing was actually decent, just full of fan service that can be very distracting from the rest of the elements of the show. Basilisk, was fairly brutal. But the animation was beautiful, and the X scenes/fam service was well done and not splashed all throughout...almost tastefully sprinkled from start to finish.

Ah Berserk is awesome i watched it from Netflix sometime ago but remember it was great! The ending was kinda confusing but to put that aside it was again awesome!

there's really not too much in it... if I can remember it all... lol you got the thicc "mai shiranui" (cleavage/bounce) shinobi girl, providing the fanservice (maybe there's some "mature" content with her too, but I don't remember there being so, meh) and you got the other female who uses seduction (assassination using the tactic of s'x), providing the "mature" content
I watched Blade of the Immortal like a decade ago, but put it "on hold" then completely forgot about it lol. Don't remember much about it at this point but this is a good reminder that I really should finish it, and maybe go through the rest of my "on hold" list while I'm at it.
i dont understand how people seem to be talking about fan-service as something to be avoided or bad. It is normal part of any entertainment and absolutely fine.
You can also add, Bastard: Heavy Metal Dark Fantasy, Brynhildr in the Darkness, Elfen Lied, Future Diary, Hell's Paradise-Jigokuraku, and the Mardock Scramble film series to that sexy trash bin that you'll actually want to look in.
Another shout out for Mnemosyne. One of the villains/antagonists is a mad scientist researching immortality. When Rin, the green haired protagonist, reveals herself as an immortal to mad scientist's horror, I had a feeling of ants crawling on my back.

It had a 2010ish feel to it, the MC was a student, he had some woman/girl living with him, she was prolly a spy or an agent idk, she always roamed buck naked in his house doing stuff like yoga or excerices or some kind of training etc idk. I have the game Dragon's Dogma to thank for getting into Berserk. The armor sets and weapons they lifted straight from the series got me curious and I loved it! Was caught a little off guard here and there but adjusted knowing the series is not for the faint of heart. Plus, being curious of the dub got me into their outtakes 😝
Blade of the immortal gotta one of my favorite anime period. Every character has their own motives and goals, the animation is beautiful and fits very well to the amazing art of the manga.

Gantz should have made the list. But I really enjoy mature titles cause animation still gets lumped into a genre for children instead of a artistic vision.

Studio Eclypse will be doing a fan-made take on Berserk with no CGI and has claimed that they will hold true to the Black Swordsman arc material as much as possible, and by the looks of the sneak peak, the animation looks similar to that of Castlevania. Strap in folks, this might just be the adaptation we've all been waiting for since Golden Age.

Love every one of these! Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne is one of the best series out there and with so few episodes and Black Lagoon is my all time favorite series, period. Wish Lagoon was still going as long as crap like One Piece runs. Shigurei is another that gets missed in a lot of compilation lists of the greats and seriously deserves more hype...folks don't know what they're missing!

Shigurui Death Frenzy had darkness, depth & substance, one of the first anime I saw that kept me in shock, some scenes I remember them vividly to this day, I watched it at least 15 years ago, when torrents were the norm.

I'm surprised Elfen Lied isn't included, and bunch of early 90's animes that I couldn't really named. Anyway, the author of Blade of the Immortal has a lot of works depicting violence and seggs so for anyone that are into that type of stuff he's a great pick.

I think you missed one that, personally, I believe should have made this list; The Sacred Blacksmith. Lots of violence and action, as well as the X factor. Also, Basilisk was definitely an awesome anime, I loved it.

wow, someone seen the Sacred Blacksmith! (It doesn't have the s'x/mature scenes though, but lots of fanservice/ecchi, focusing on the bo'ob'as, and even with lots of 'bo'ob'a humor included too)

Basilisk was a good anime. It had a live action movie too, but with a different title called Shinobi, but it's basically the exact same anime adaptation.
Freezing was actually pretty lit. I want to say this was on Netflix back when they first launched as a streaming service. They had a couple good ones like Gungrave too.
It's such a shame that Miura died before finishing Berserk. The human loss is tragic first and foremost of course, but I'm not sure anybody else will be able to follow his vision for the series.
Freezing was actually decent, just full of fan service that can be very distracting from the rest of the elements of the show.
Basilisk, was fairly brutal. But the animation was beautiful, and the X scenes/fam service was well done and not splashed all throughout...almost tastefully sprinkled from start to finish.

I can confirm that Basilisk, Mnemosyne, Blade of the Immortal (also its remake) and Beserk are really good shows. I guess, I just HAVE TO watch Shigurui somewhere now.

Ah Berserk is awesome i watched it from Netflix sometime ago but remember it was great! The ending was kinda confusing but to put that aside it was again awesome!

The fact that Basilisk is here, warms my heart. I regard it as one of the best ninja animes around. I've also seen a few others in this video. Such as Shigurei Death Frenzy, Black Lagoon ( all seasons ) Freezing ( both seasons ) Dorei-Iku & Speed Grapher.
I finished Basilisk last night, great anime, i watched it when i was younger but i don't remember it having so much fan service, damn censorship
there's really not too much in it... if I can remember it all... lol
you got the thicc "mai shiranui" (cleavage/bounce) shinobi girl, providing the fanservice (maybe there's some "mature" content with her too, but I don't remember there being so, meh)

you got the other female who uses seduction (assassination using the tactic of s'x), providing the "mature" content
Those top 3 are definitly a must to watch. Especially Berserk, a game that inspired Miyazaki to make Souls game.

I watched Blade of the Immortal like a decade ago, but put it "on hold" then completely forgot about it lol. Don't remember much about it at this point but this is a good reminder that I really should finish it, and maybe go through the rest of my "on hold" list while I'm at it.

i dont understand how people seem to be talking about fan-service as something to be avoided or bad. It is normal part of any entertainment and absolutely fine.
You can also add, Bastard: Heavy Metal Dark Fantasy, Brynhildr in the Darkness, Elfen Lied, Future Diary, Hell's Paradise-Jigokuraku, and the Mardock Scramble film series to that sexy trash bin that you'll actually want to look in.
Another shout out for Mnemosyne. One of the villains/antagonists is a mad scientist researching immortality. When Rin, the green haired protagonist, reveals herself as an immortal to mad scientist's horror, I had a feeling of ants crawling on my back.

I've watched Freezing and Freezing Vibration through at least twice. I thought it was pretty good. Wish it would have completed the story. It really left us hanging.

I think you can probably help me mate. I am looking for an anime I watched on youtube back in around 2015 or so... It had a 2010ish feel to it, the MC was a student, he had some woman/girl living with him, she was prolly a spy or an agent idk, she always roamed buck naked in his house doing stuff like yoga or excerices or some kind of training etc idk. That is all I remember lol. I tried going through a bunch of harem comedy and ecchi geners, which I used to watch back then to find it out, and it feels like I have exhausted all possible options I had. Except for turning to the community, and this is my first attempt. Can you help me find that anime?

Berserk is a legit masterpiece in my opinion BUT DAAAAAAAAAAMN the MANGA is INSANE literally your eyes will MELT it's so good and gore filled definitely worth the watch and read! It's absolutely one of my personal favorites the game is so-so though lol but good

I have the game Dragon's Dogma to thank for getting into Berserk. The armor sets and weapons they lifted straight from the series got me curious and I loved it! Was caught a little off guard here and there but adjusted knowing the series is not for the faint of heart. Plus, being curious of the dub got me into their outtakes 😝
