DEA proposes reclassifying marijuana as a Schedule Three narcotic

- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officials have proposed reclassifying marijuana (or cannabis) as a Schedule Three drug. Despite a majority of states having legislation allowing for medicinal and recreational use, marijuana it still classified as a Schedule One narcotic along with heroin.
Curaleaf (CURLF) CEO Matt Darin sits down with Catalysts Hosts Seana Smith and Madison Mills to talk about how long cannabis businesses has been waiting for a change like this and what it signifies for the future of the industry and the SAFE Banking Act.
"It's a long time coming, but I think the findings are really backed in science and backed under a very detailed review that the government did to evaluate the medicinal benefits of cannabis," Darin says, "and that it truly does belong as a Schedule Three, a substance versus Schedule One on par with things like heroin and fentanyl which all Americans have known for quite some time, just was not right."

They're proposing to have marijuana, a plant, rescheduled to the same schedule as THC... which is derived from that same plant. They're still nuts.
The DEA is part of the EXECUTIVE branch, and has no business proposing any change in law, which is the purview of the LEGISLATIVE branch. Also, cannabis is not a narcotic.

I don’t think the classification is the actual law. Alcohol and tobacco are not “Scheduled” but there are laws that restrict their use. There are laws that govern who can purchase them, and where they can be used, which are administered by various governments. I’m not an attorney nor played one on TV. It’s how it was explained to me.
@@NJSonye Here's an example that might help elucidate my point: police departments would never suggest that any particular traffic offense be reclassified, such as changing the fine for running a stop sign from $180 to $50. That would be something that the legislative body in that particular municipality might put forth at the behest of the residents of the town. The police are part of the executive branch, so they have nothing to do with suggesting changes to the laws. Their job is to ENFORCE the law.
Just leave it alone, sell it like alcohol, quit trying so hard to put crazy laws into it.

@@Agdjfooelzxk Right? All these people talking about how weed is no worse than alcohol have the right intent but alcohol is so much more harmful than weed. I'm not one of those people that believes weed is some miracle drug either, it has some marginal positive effects in certain areas but I would say overall is still mostly "harmful" whereas alcohol has next to zero positive benefits(and more and more studies showing drinking alcohol is never good) and is literally just toxic for your body.
Also I'm for both, I drink, I smoke. I just think its ridiculous that weed is demonized more than alcohol given the reality of their potential abuse and harm they can cause. But I guess that alcohols got that "been part of human culture for thousands of years" thing going for it.

I’ve been addicted to weed, alcohol, benzos, meth, and cigarettes and weed has been by far the hardest to quit. By far. Like by a lot. Total declassification is not the right move.

The DEA had 8 months to reschedule Cannabis from a schedule one to a schedule three, it’s ridiculous they are taking this long to get this done.

Marinol has been schedule 3 for many years. Same active ingredient and is much stronger. It shouldn't be scheduled at all, this is just money given to a failing industry. Can't tax like a schedule 1, but will there be generics and will pharmacies carry it. Once legalized like this, look for dozens of pills like marinol and a price increase.

Tax on weed in states where it’s legal is passed on to consumers as are taxes on all businesses. The owners laugh at consumers all the way to the bank.

It should be schedule 2...medical use, highly addictive, and creates massive effect on social productivity and hault in mental maturation. Look at groups in general that have used it and are known to use it regularly. See their general social status, educuational achievements, and what the consistent long term side effects of those who have and still use it cronically, habitually overall. If you look you will see this drug is as detrimental to high level intellectual pursuits that are in no way comparable to alchohol but rather hard drugs.

Cannabis does not create physical dependence (unlike many uncontrolled psychiatric, heart medications, anxiety medications, hormone therapies, or any other drug which causes withdrawal/adverse affect upon cessation). Using cannabis in a responsible manner has never been easier. This is an antiquated view that lacks any understanding of the true effects of properly dosed usage. Imo

Marijuana cannot be moved from Schedule I to Schedule III without changing the definitions since marijuana has no accepted medical use.

There are plenty of medical uses for marijuana; which is why so many states legalized it (not to mention the tax revenue it generates). Research the body’s endocannabinoid system for more on how it’s medically used by the body.
