    You doctor has recommended that you undergo hip replacement surgery. But what exactly does that mean?
    The hip joint is the place where the thighbone - called the femur - and the hipbone - called the pelvis - meet.
    As you walk, the ball-shaped end of the thigh moves within a cuplike depression on the side of the hip.
    As long as the thigh can move smoothly against the hip, you are able to walk comfortably. But over time, especially in patients who suffer from arthritis or rheumatism, the hip joint can wear down.
    Cartilage, the tissue that cushions the bones and makes it possible for them to move smoothly against each other can wear away.
    When this happens, the bones rub together causing pain and even restricting the ability to walk.
    * In some cases, hip surgery is recommended for people who have suffered a hip fracture.
    * No matter what the cause, one of the most effective ways to fix a damaged hip is to replace it surgically.
    In this procedure, the ball-shaped bone at the top of the thigh is removed and replaced with a metal substitute.
    The hip socket is widened and lined with a smooth pad that allows the metal ball joint to move more freely against the pelvis.
    Hip replacement surgery is a major operation, but your doctor believes that the procedure -- followed up with physical therapy and time to heal -- will result in reduced pain and greater mobility.
    So make sure that you ask your doctor to carefully explain the reasons behind this recommendation.

    I had this surgery for the hip joint surgery and it is do that to me is that they never-ending to the doctor to get a new life and a hip replacement to the left side of the thigh is a great thing too have done so far and it was very good and very helpful for me as well as the most likely to get a knees replacement surgery on my knee as well as the other side of the knee.

    I don't know why I torture myself watching these videos. I have to have the surgery done soon, and it is the recovery process that freaks me out, not the surgery itself. Just thinking of everything that gets cut through, cut off, and cut open, makes me wonder what kind of pain I will be in after work and for how long. This is going to suck 🤕

    I have a grossly deformed left hip. I was diagnosed with Perthes Disease when I was 9. Throughout my childhood and teen years and well into my adult years I have suffered excruciating pain. I have had arthritis since I was little, I now have Osteo arthritis. When I was 22 I broke my left ankle and snapped my inner foot off. I have pins and plates hold my leg together. I also have early onset arthritis and have been told I have to have my ankle replaced. I am waiting to hear back on if I need to have my hip reconstructed or have it replaced. I am 32 this year and I am asking if it is worth having to go through all this pain again.

    Hello sir,
    I have to know your opinions regarding my grandfather operation.He is suffering from a hip ball fracture and is currently 92 years old.we have already consulted from 5 Dr's for the same and all told us that there is no alternate other than replacing that fracture with artificial steel ball. So we (our family members) are in great trouble to take the final decision.plz share ur opinions with us ASAP.
    And please also tell me if there is any alternate or precautions we have to take if we are not going for the surgery. Also he is a heart patient and had 2 minor heart attacks in the past . Till now he is not getting any issue with heart ,We have also discussed with homeopathy and ayurvedic doctors available nearby but all suggest not to go for surgery. What shuld we do ,we all are in confusion .plz suggest your solutions about going for surgery or not .ASAP.
    Thanks

      JUST had mine done last week. Doing well, thank you. Had a spinal, on the advice of my nurse wife. I've had general before and don't like how you wake up so slowly. You know you're 'coming to' but you can't just sit up. Slow motion. This time I talked with the anesthetist through some of it. He was telling jokes. Then woke up normally in recovery a while later. The spinal worked well for me. Sounds bad but it's really just another pin prick for what you get out of it. The rest of the day felt normal.

    I had 9 metal screws & a steal plate on my left ankle when it broke into two places, it felt awful after healing. I opted to have it removed cause I hated how it felt. I am concerned that this metal joint screwed into my own bone will always be uncomfortable and will keep annoying me also. What are patient's saying & how many are athletically built? Beginning to feel like society is simply using people, forcing situations that hurt people simply to practice on individuals they attempt to slaughter our way of life, our ability to follow God's law? When I have this surgery, how can I be in a best situation as to "carelessness of others" are not going to keep reinjuring me? Multiple ordeals already with surgery I have survived, family, friend's, time cannot be replaced. Feeling distraught. I had a wholesome & joyous life & it changed on a dime when my son deployed. Every war tactic was offensive to our family well-being. Would say I am shocked but know I could live into my 90's if situation's & people would share & put me in a best conditions to win my social & chronic pain thru workout & serious exercize.

    I want to jog. walk, run, play basketball again, work! be there for my loved ones. but I am scared. I'm 33 and was diagnosed with Legg Perthies disease at 11. I was getting along "OK" until a drugged out a-hole in a cement truck hit me. going upstate in a week, to either have it done, or start the process of appointments, which mean 3 hour drives back and fourth. Very painful, and i dont have anyone to drive me there. I have 3 cars, a moped and zero friends. when you get hurt and cant go out with your friends often times they just forget about you. I want to live a real life again. I hope they just admit me right away and get it over with. I'm so tired of laying down. I might just pull a Forrest Gump. Start running and never stop. no, but still, I just want to live again. Be a complete person. I'm really scared though. and lonely in this situation. I've thought about suicide every day for at least two years.

    I was eager to see the traditional surgery, which entails cutting the hip muscle. I have become interested in MAKOplasty, robotic assisted hip replacement surgery. There is a 4 part RUclips video showing the complete MAKOplasty surgery for hip replacement. From what I have viewed and read there seems to be a lot less chance of even a small error down the line with the computer assisted surgery. It cues the doctor on placement by decimals of millimeters during the surgery. If you are a senior your doctor will probably want you to have Medicare and a Supplemental plan.
    I made an appointment which was cancelled just before I was to have my consultation. Originally, the doctor's office asked if I had medicare and I had my card so I said yes. Two days before the appointment they called and cancelled my appointment because they said I had a Coventry HMO Medicare plan. I didn't know there was a difference.
    The traditional surgeons do take this, but it seems the surgeons doing Makoplasty do not (at least, in my area). I am glad I am in the open enrollment period because I definitely must find the right supplement. In a year or two I will have to have my other hip done. Supplementals are very expensive, but my goal is to avoid a long and painful recovery. Precision and not cutting the hip muscle are a high priority of mine. I am posting this in an effort to help someone else. There is so much to learn about medical procedures and insurance plans. I have been doing research for 2 weeks straight. Good luck to you. And to me, too.

      You are wise to go that route. I wound up with excess leg length and now I wish I never had the surgery. On top of all that the Dr dismissed my disappointment by saying, "You signed the waiver" His name is Eric B. Smith at Rothman in PA

    • @jpapare
      @jpapare 9 лет назад

      I hope the leg length is not too drastic. There is a small other possibility. In a very thorough consultation with a doctor I decided against (only because he didn't do computer navigation surgery) I expressed that fear of one limb being shorter than the other. My x-ray was up on the computer at the time and (he hadn't really seen it before) but he noticed that one of my hip sockets was actually higher than the other. He was clearly correct; it was easy to see it. That was before I had any surgery. Now that I have had both the right and left hips done, I do notice a slight difference in leg length in the hip with the higher socket, actually. It is a possibility in your case, and if you could have the opportunity to review your pre-surgery x-rays, and this was true in your case, too, You might be able to have more peace of mind. I wish you the very best.

      Just got a suit back from my seamstress. One pant leg is 1/2" longer than the other

    • @bobmack3975
      @bobmack3975 9 лет назад

      After walking around for decades with the socket height discrepancy your body has completely
      adjusted to that. The best result would be to put you back where you were. Truth be told,
      these surgeons will come up with a myriad of excuses to accommodate their failures.
      You'll never hear an explanation admitting that they didn't do such a great job. They go
      through this all the time. I have seriously sprained my back four times since November.
      I am now having all my left shoes taken apart and resoled with additional lift. Shoe inserts
      don't get me close enough to prevent me from walking like a seal.
