The one that shocked me when i was a child was "The Black Cauldron" how it went to be a Family-Oriented movie in the beginning but when The Horned King and the Army of the Dead became really Scary and Shocking so i think this movie was more of a Dark Fantasy than a Family movie for a Disney movie. Fun Fact: the actor John Hurt from Watership Down and The Plague Dogs also voiced in The Black Cauldron.
That movie gave me so many nightmares as a kid, but now that I'm an adult, I kinda wanna watch The Black Cauldron again just to see what it's like. But I did see a clip on RUclips of the Horned King's death O.O Still probably gonna scare me lol
@@brianapereira2694 ikr, that movie had lots of horror elements. My dad always said that back then Disney was into scary elements with movies like Pinocchio, Sleepy Hollow, Frankenweenie, Something Wicked This Way Comes and Return to Oz but they don't do that anymore.
@@bigcpuppetanimefan8120 I think with the oldest animated films, there were no guidelines or standards for how family films should be. The modern rating system didn't really come about until much later. (I know the PG-13 rating didn't come until the 80s.) And not just Disney, all animation studios were willing to go dark and twisted. A good example is the Betty Boop episode where she's Snow White. One of the singers' body starts splitting apart and twisting. In terms of experimentation, I think it's cool, but as a cartoon that kids could watch...yeah, don't show it to kids. Also, cartoons weren't originally for kids. Yes, there were lighthearted elements and silliness, but they were made so anyone could watch them. That's why there's a huge variety of cartoons from mild and fun to dark and twisted.
Hey chat, just wanted to remind you to stay hydrated and eat somethin if you haven't yet, you're loved no matter who you are and I hope you get some good sleep tonight
“My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea” I was not expecting any of these deaths to happen how they did. Eaten alive on screen; slowly burned to death; electrocution; split in half; and more.
the way the monsters kill people in spookys jumpscare mansion are much darker we have consumption, physical tearing, stretching, clawing, hanging and ripping there guts open (if you say open on the corpse), and physical puncutering.
“Samson og Sally” I have not seen this movie since pre-school, and I still remember some scenes. It’s a film about saving the whales in the perspective of the whales. One scene Samson’s mom was shot with a harpoon gun and was dragged onto the ship in the background; or when oil covers miles of the top of the ocean and the whales are slowly going crazy from lack of oxygen.
Chicken Run was very creepy to me. There are these chickens who are forced to lay eggs, and when they can't lay anymore they are killed. They meet this rooster, and they hope he can save them. The one thing that scared me most was a sequence in the beginning of the film. The chickens are being counted, and there is this one hen that didn't lay eggs. She was then taken somewhere on the farm, and the main character watches her die. I re-watched the scene years later, and I later realized that the hen wanted to be killed. She didn't tell anyone about her problems, because she believed that death was the only way out. It's dark, brutal, and all around depressing
If you really want to lose sleep, I suggest you give Perfect Blue a watch. Quite possibly one of the most intense and terrifying animated films I've ever watched. Even more terrifying when you consider how close to reality it is, with the film being an eerie reflection on the darker aspects of the celebrity lifestyle and especially with Japan's disturbingly relaxed laws on stalking.
I actually watch it when I was like 4 or so because it was supposed to be for all ages and the cover looked absolutely innocent The movie is from the 80s I think and I watched it somewhere around 2010 for the first time and they didn't even think about changing the rating Like tf? It's super brutal
“The King of Pigs” It’s about kids on the bottom latter in school attacking those on the top. This movie has scenes where they burn a cat’s eye with a cigarette, disembowel another student, and kick another student to death.
Pinocchio has always been one of my favorite animated movies since I was young but as an adult rewatching it a lot of the scenes that gave me a spook as a kid freaked me out even more

I would also like to mention a movie called "9", It's about 9 tiny robots running away from a giant robot that had been taking there souls, each of the robots contain a bit of soul from the person who made them, dont forget, 9 was the one who turned on the giant robot
I've seen both the Plague Dogs and Watership Down and personally it never really shocked me as I viewed them in the 7th grade, now in 8th grade I honestly loved both as it never held back from showing the gritty reality of the stories they where telling and that is something a lot of films and tv shows miss now a days.
