Their eyesight is so terrible, the very few times I’ve encountered a wild one it’s been because it bumped into me while it was foraging. Little guys are so focused on finding those insects.
My first read, I saw "while I was foraging," so... that was fun.

I do scream and shout and wave my arms when roos get near me, but that's because it's the most effective way to get rid of them, and also because they're getting too used to humans, so I want them to maintain a certain level of fear. They can be really dangerous and it's not good for them to get used to people.
@@murph_mustela Oh of course,same thing with bears. Really just depends on the size and threat level of the animal I suppose. I’m referring to the whole “it’s different so it has to die” mindset.

i mean i reckon it's because echnidnas as a rule are usually pretty shy - you don't tend to have them just come up to you like this one, so it must be pretty used to humans or just a particularly bold one :>

We found an echidna dug into our front garden once. All you could see was the spines. We assumed it wandered up from the nearby creek. The next day it was gone.
Amazing creature. We stopped for one on a country road, it proceeded to waddle toward the car and push its body under the front tyre, I'd say it thought it was a rock or log.
I picked it up to put it behind a farm fence off the road and OOOOUUUCH!!!
Man those quills/spines are so sharp! I had to get a few bags and a jacket etc to use to wrap the little guy up and get it away from the road. Heavy little buggers too...much heavier than they look.

I like hedgehogs and porcupines but Echidna's are on a whole other level.
They're just so unique and confident. When they waddle it look so smug.
Echidnas seem similar but are actually a whole different group of animals. Echidnas and Platypus are the only two members of the animal family Monotreme (which are egg-laying mammals that feed their young with milk). These two animals have remained genetically unchanged for 220 million years. Living dinosaurs. :)
porcupines are frickin scary! They're way bigger than hedgehogs and echidna, they're like medium-dog sized. I almost ran right into one on a trail here in Alaska, like right around a bend. I ended up like 3 feet away from it and it made a scary snarl and I ran away so fast lol. It was missing like half of it's quills so it must have come into contact with something before me.
oh and the plural of 'echidna' is 'echidna' :)
