Yes, I definitely agree. Good reference with NFL 2K5's commentary. The duo of Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe is still light years ahead of Madden to this day.
That’s why EA bought the exclusive license bc they knew at that time that 2k had the better game. EA knowing this and having more money than 2k bought the license bc they it was only a matter of time ppl would rather buy 2k then EA
@@sillywilly9633 100% agree. 2K was ascending very quickly at that time. They eventually dethroned NBA Live and MLB 2K ending up outlasting MVP Baseball. College Hoops was superior to NCAA Basketball and there were some gamers that preferred the NHL 2K series to EA's NHL series.
True. Given how Madden has gone these days, we never knew how true it was when they said, "You can't coach that." Apparently, you can't coach EA to really care about the "sport" in their sports games.
Yes! I am tired of companies relying on patches rather than making sure games are working properly out of the gate. That's what made older games so special. These developers and publishers literally had only one shot to get it right.
Couldn't agree more. I think the era that NFL 2K5 came out in was the best era in gaming history. Madden was even great that year as well. So many sports, so many great games. Remember MVP Baseball? The introduction of All-Star Weekend in NBA Live 2005?
@@isiahgatson6125 Yeah, EA knew that 2K was about to overtake them in NFL football and rather than welcome the competition and prove themselves as the best, they decided to hide behind exclusivity. It was a great business move for them, but a weak move in terms of competition. That's why it's been satisfying to see 2K own them in basketball to the point that they gave up on NBA Live. And what's so poetic about it is that 2K didn't have to resort to the same tactics EA did. 2K just made a superior game.
@Del Jones NBA 2K11 was the first NBA game in years to have Michael Jordan, right? And you were able to use classic Bulls teams for the first time in that game as well I believe. When 2K got Jordan, that was actually the end for NBA Live. It started with the signature styles where the players actually moved, dribbled, and shot like themselves. But once Jordan came into the picture, GAME OVER.
I'll never forget stopping by Target next door from my workplace to get this game on release day. I remember seeing it behind the case for 19.99 and Madden was sitting there at 49.99 and I'm like "well I loved playing 2k4 at my friend's house so 2k5 it is!" And then I cracked open the game case while I was inside my car and reading through the game manual. Memories . Those were the best days!
Yes! When I would buy games back in those days, I would go back to the parking lot and sit in my car for no less than 10 minutes just to look through the instruction booklet and whatever else came with the game. Then I finally would drive home and play the game. Video game packaging was so much better back in those days. You could get a poster, map, or a card depending on the game you bought. And the other great thing about those days? No having to download an update before finally getting to play.
It come out in july ! One month before Madden . They really was trying to cut there throats . 20$ all kinds of madden heads tryed it atleast . I remember my buddy's telling me i was crazy saying 2k5 blows madden 05 out of the water . Seeing these comments almost 20 years later proves i was right !

The immersion in this game is amazing. Imagine this with next gen graphics and power. It would be great. 2K needs to get the NFL to release EA as the sole rights to the video game. EA is a joke right now.
Yeah, a lof of us would love to see what 2K could do in 2021 with the NFL license especially with 17 years of advancement in technology within the gaming industry. One thing I would be concerned about is if 2K would focus too much on "My Player" to the detriment of the rest of the game. In the meantime, NFL 2K5 is more than good enough for me, even in 2021. I still also play Madden 08 on PC, and I've really come to enjoy Legend Bowl.
Has got to be the best mod I've seen yet for 2k5. Nice work! Makes me want to get a ps2/2k5 just for the mods and relive the memories. Had this game when I was 13 and I'll be almost 30 at the end of the year. Still outclasses madden despite the changes over the years with gaming consoles to the NFL and its rules and other changes.
The moment I first played this game, it was and still is better than even the best that Madden has ever put out. And there used to be a time that Madden was really good. You will need a PC for this mod because it works only through the PCSX2 emulator so far. It would be nice if it could be played on a regular PS2, but I don't think the actual system would be able to handle the updated textures.
@@bobby6427 I read in an interview that EA was in panic mode when NFL 2K5 was released for $19.99. It screwed up EA's plans big time for Madden 2005. EA had thought that they were going to be able to charge full price for the game but then had to drop it down to $29.99 in response to NFL 2K5.
@@videogamersadvocate9925 Yeah man I agree. The PS1/PS2 days of madden were fun and I also enjoyed the 989 NFL Gameday series until they died around the time NFL 2k did. Unfortunately I don't have a PC, I have a macbook and the Xbox S and from what I read, sounds like you can't get resurrected for the next gen consoles. Maybe that will change one day though?
@@jim394 I hope so. I would want as many people as possible to play this mod, especially if they enjoyed NFL 2K5 back in the day. It's unfortunate the days of NFL game competition no longer exists. I didn't play much of NFL Game Day or NFL Fever, but the little I played, I could tell they were solid games in their own right. There was also NFL Quarterback Club too. Those days where consumers had choices were great days.

I love 2K5, it’s one of my favorites to play. However, I noticed just two small things that could be edited (yes, I’m still grateful for this update and looking even forward to getting a pc just for this) But when you first loaded into the game before the coin toss, it still had Seattle’s original logo (from the actual release of this game) and the same goes for the Rams’ logo as well. The next small thing is the color of the numbers on the jerseys and the fact that they’re still the original color from 04 so it doesn’t match the color of the new uniforms. But other than that, that’s is a great mod!
@@zekerodriguez13 I think those are very fair observations. LostsouL (the mod creator) is going to release a version 1.3 update on the mod soon and he may have addressed the logo situation. With the jerseys, I think there are some limitations in terms of how far he can edit them. If it was a native PC game, it may be easier to manipulate the textures, but this is editing that was done for a PS2 emulator so the editing was probably even more complex. Of course, I know nothing of the process and am just speculating.

But because I don't own any Apple devices, I wouldn't know the first thing about setting it up. I don't know how the conversion works, but it seems like the ratings were determined by attempting to bring Madden's ratings to 2K5. That's why the ratings are ridiculously high. Some of the roster creators over the years for NFL 2K5 have also had some really interesting ratings. I'm talking like the entire team rating being a "33" overall. But I can confirm that the game still plays great even with the wacky ratings.
They are a direct pull from the madden ratings. Because there are differences, it causes the players to be higher rated. Makes it good for exhibition or playoff/fantasy draft games. There was a save file kicking around for last season that had a franchise file, that worked well. I highly recommend you check it out. Base game is amazing, their improvements make it damn near flawless.
The Dreamcast was an amazing system and I wish that it had lasted longer. There were some great games on that system and the SEGA Sports collection was great. It really suffered from the lack of major third-party developers. I remember both the early 2K football games with Randy Moss on the cover and the 2K basketball games with Allen Iverson as the cover man.
LostsouL and his team did excellent work with this. I really miss the Dreamcast and it's too bad the system never reached its potential. It was ahead of its time.
@@infinitystar6208 I have both of those games and the mods for them are incredible. Have you ever heard of the Wabbajack website? That's where I installed The Phoenix Flavour mod for Skyrim Special Edition and the Fallout 4 Enhanced Edition mod. It's kind of like an installer package that installs a bunch of mods into the game for you at one time rather than having to do each one separately by yourself. It can take quite a while but I'm happy with the result of both mods. They add so much to both games.
Yeah. I wish there was a way to play this mod on the actual consoles but that isn't possible at this point. You might already know this, but in case you don't, if you have a Max Drive (by Codejunkies) for your PS2, you are able to download updated NFL 2K5 rosters on a PC, save it to the drive, and then upload it to your PS2 to be able to play with those rosters. I used to do it all the time. The best sites for NFL 2K5 rosters are forums.operationsports.com/forums/espn-nfl-2k5-rosters/ (you have to sign up for a free account to download files) and nfl2k5rosters.com/.
If only this was available on console. Still, NFL 2K5 is king and will remain king. Major props to the modders and everyone associated with making this happen. You guys rock 🤘🏻😎

For whatever reason, RUclips isn't allowing me to respond to your comment from the other video. The NFL 2K5 Resurrected Mod can only be played on PC. I would recommend getting a gaming PC to play because it will need the proper graphics card and processor to run the game smoothly. But having a PC is the first step. From there, follow the instructions at github.com/lostsoul63b/NFL2K5-Resurrected. There's a Help Video that is really helpful. This update is for the PCSX2 (PS2) emulator. You will still need to provide the game and the BIOS for the emulator yourself, which you can find out how to obtain through searching online.
Dude, I wouldn't even buy Madden if this update didn't exist. I'm thankful for the people who have been updating the NFL 2K5 and Madden 08 rosters over the years. Those are what I've been playing for years for my NFL gaming itch.
Yep. I'm definitely going to have to get this. Quite wild that this gets some attention on PC, just in a year when EA's Madden saw fit to "Legacy Edition" the PC, this year, like they did FIFA on the Switch for 2 going on 3 years. EA really set themselves up for this game to really take them to town on the PC. It doesn't help to leave a gaping hole on a platform. With today's talent, people are going to swoop in and make your game obsolete and then you won't have the revenue on the platform.
EA just continues to drop the ball every single year and as long as they are making money, they do not care about the state of their Madden games. But eventually the negative publicity will catch up with them. Even Pat McAfee has criticized Madden. More and more NFL players are criticizing it.

At 10:03 the way the receivers both look at the ball as they're running towards the end zone I can't believe how long ago this game was made quality always stands the test of time let's just get a remaster and we never have to play Madden again
Those details are what made people fall in love with NFL 2K5 from the beginning. Is the game flawless? Not by a long shot, but it is easily the best NFL sim that I've ever played. This game that is nearly 20 years old got so many things right.

With all the technological advances we've made, here we are celebrating a game that's almost 20 years old smh... I wish I would have appreciated this game more when I was younger this and ap2k8 are definitely the greatest football games ever. Damn shame Maybe we'll see the greatness revived before 2030
I personally would like to see a revival in sports gaming. The lack of competition in individual sports games has really affected us as consumers because we now typically just have one choice per sport. Madden for NFL, NBA 2K for NBA, The Show for MLB, and EA for NHL. The companies behind the games have gotten more comfortable without having another developer/publisher to go against. I know a lot of people who enjoy today's sports games and I'm glad that they enjoy them. But I think sports gaming is capable of much more. That's why so many sports gamers keep looking back to the past. Also, I've believed for a long time that the annual cycle in sports gaming has been detrimental. From a business standpoint, it's guaranteed money every year for a brand. But it has hindered sports games from reaching their full potential. We're in 2021. Sports games should be way more feature-heavy and customizable than they are today. I'm still in shock that as much as I like MLB: The Show, the stadium creator was barely implemented this year. But before I went on that tangent, NFL 2K5 and APF 2K8 are excellent football games that stand the test of time.
@@tompierce2677 This is for PC and I would recommend that you have a gaming PC if you want to play it smoothly because the PCSX2 (PS2) emulator is more demanding on your computer than other emulators. If you have a PC, then follow the instructions at github.com/lostsoul63b/NFL2K5-Resurrected. This update only works with the PCSX2 emulator because it replaces default textures in the game with custom ones. You will still need to provide the game and the BIOS for the emulator yourself, which you can find out how to obtain through searching online. I have a physical copy of NFL 2K5 so I uploaded it on my computer and made an ISO file of it myself.

The only thing I'm noticing different is when I go to Dev9 in config, it's only giving me an option to log onto console and log to file. It's not giving me the option to enable ethernet or enable hdd. No options either. That's the only step I'm missing I think.

Right off the bat you see the little cell phone next to the crib on the menu - that is actually a table top phone icon in the original game. Very nice touch.
That's why competition is so important. Madden had a few good games after getting its NFL exclusive license. I still play Madden 08 on PC to this day. But once Madden went to the Xbox 360 and PS3, that's when I started to see the slow decline.
I couldn't imagine an NFL 2K5/APF 2K8 hybrid coming out on consoles now...with the commentary of course.....Madden would never be the same again What is scary, imagine the amount of animations that a current 2K football game would have....imagine the depth you can put on a player...signature jukes and spins, running style, catch animations based on the size and position of the player(like rimgrazers and Uber athletic dunks in 2k) the shit would be crazy and we need the commentary back...
That's a good point. Since NFL 2K5, we've seen how 2K took the NBA 2K and implemented so many signature animations to really make the virtual NBA come to life. Signature dribbling, shooting forms, dunks, layups, floaters, hook shots, jumpshots, mannerisms, etc. All of that in an NFL game would be extraordinary.
@@videogamersadvocate9925 and technically APF2K8 had that depending on the ability you chose... If you had the power back ability then then your player would have next level trucks and stiff arms... But if you just gave your player battering ram then his boosted trucking would give him animations where he is literally destroying a player.... Just like the juke moves were different if you gave him the ability

@@videogamersadvocate9925 Opera football was a lot more polished.... The interactions between CB/WR and lineman were good in 2K5...but 2K8 took it to a new level... I played the 34 outside blitzing linebacker...but I didn't really know many moves except bullrush...but then I learned the rip and the club move and I got good at it
I didn't know that about the voice-over guy. Wow, so it's been 15 years, huh? I've played this game through the years because the community support is tremendous. People have created updated rosters every season since the game was released so the game never got old for me. And there are a lot of great classic rosters out there as well.
I played the original NFL 2k5 until like 4 years ago. I would edit the rookies in the off-season and find guys who's pic looked the most like the actual players,then adjust their stats accordingly and give them the names of the actual guys being drafted. I still don't play Madden,I just dream of the times I actually had a football game worth playing...now I just play NBA 2k all the time.
Yeah I hear you. For me, I always found myself coming back to the sports games that I really enjoyed from the past when I tried to play the newer games so I stopped buying the newer games. I really do like MLB The Show though. Other than that, I play NFL 2K5 and Madden 08 on PC with updated rosters for the NFL. NBA 2K14 on PC with the Ultimate Base Roster mod is my go-to for NBA.

Outstanding upload!!!! I played ESPN NFL 2K5 on the OG XBOX last night and can easily see why it is STILL the BEST FOOTBALL VIDEO GAME OF ALL-TIME!!!! I also miss the days when sports games were fun to play and when we had choices in video games (e.g. NFL - 2K, Madden, GameDay, Fever, Blitz, Tecmo/NBA - 2K, Live, Inside Drive, Jam, Hangtime, ShootOut, NHL - EA's, 2K's, FaceOff, Open Ice, etc.). I'm glad to own many of my old systems so I can still enjoy them!
I had the original Xbox at one point and also had NFL 2K5 on there. Visually, it was superior to PS2 and I remember that you had to have the PS2 hard drive to be able to get the halftime show with real highlights instead of still photos. That wasn't a problem at all on Xbox. I do like the way the graphics like when the resolution is upscaled on the PCSX2 emulator. And you can create a virtual hard drive on the emulator so you can have full highlights like you saw towards the end of the video.
Yeah and the Xbox version loaded way faster I still got it and remade the chiefs in a franchise mode, that mode was so deep as well with highlights from other games around he league during the season and weekly reports like damn 2k was on they shit !

Mike Alstott was such a beast. To tell you the truth, I can't even really remember hardly any fullbacks since he played. The dude had such a presence and I enjoyed watching him play.
I love the way NFL 2K5 plays and it was one of the few football games where I equally enjoy playing offense and defense. Madden during this time period was very fun to play as well. The PS2/Xbox era produced some great football games.
I still have my PS2 copy, but only after I rebought it a little over ten years ago. At one point I also had the game on the original Xbox too. So I've bought it three times and just decided to keep it for good. I used to always trade in games that I wasn't playing much anymore for newer games which was why I hardly ever kept games in the past.
I hear you. To this day, I still miss the Houston Oilers. Loved the powder blue jerseys and how the games would like when they took place in the Astrodome.

i been playing it for over 2 weeks now.. love it way better than madden, and its challenging. button config is not madden but itll be mastered soon. miss the hit stick, but all around, the build, the precision on the textures, it looks and plays great! lost soul is the shit for putting this together
Yes, LostsouL and the rest of the team are awesome for doing this. Keep at it and you will get the hang of this game. When I first played NFL 2K5 back in the day, I actually didn't like it. But that was because I was trying to play it with my years of Madden habits that weren't working. Once I abandoned those habits and embraced the unique way that NFL 2K5 is meant to be played, then I have enjoyed it ever since. I'm glad you are enjoying it.
@@videogamersadvocate9925 its so much better than Madden.I stopped playing madden in 2010. after the 3 way team play ended. from that moment on I've seen the same crap play game after game after game, watched franchise get obliviated and replaced with micro transaction ultimate team. lets not get me started on when they added fair play to online play and took away minimum speed threshold. We are so blessed to live in a time where gamers who actually know the game and have a passion for it still, use their skills to make games that were already good... better. kudos to the 2k resurrected team!

AWSOME! EXCELLENT JOB!. There's a way to play using the Broadcast Cam and it's just like 2K Basketball 🏀 Broadcast Camera View. It's going to be interesting to see the 2 Football Games that 2k Sports will be introducing next year. Madden may look better but all the flaws in the game take away the beauty was it.
I agree. Madden is a prime example of a beautiful car that has a messed-up engine. Great to look out when it sits idle, but the moment you open the hood or try to drive it, then you realize how terrible the car actually is. Even Madden 2005 is worlds better than today's Madden. Man this game was just done right period, 7-3 game halftime show engaging with actual plays from the game, the hits sound like collisions, vendor tossing a guy some 🥜 they actually cared and it showed, don't even wanna think about nfl 2k22 they'd f it up with microtransaction's.
Look at the defensive play by Flowers at 10:00 and how he plays the ball. I have not seen anything like that in Madden. The halftime show and post-game shows are absolute treats. You can tell that 2k5 was developed and published by people who know and love football. Yes, I would worry about a new NFL 2K game, especially in today's gaming market.
This was actually one of the first video games I ever played. I didn't know anything about football but my grandfather who is a big fan played it with me and i had to have been 3 years old. I would always pick the Packers because their logo was a G and it was the same letter as my first name.
Yeah. Sometimes it's hard to believe that much time has passed since the game originally was released. I'm still regularly playing a football game that is 17 years old. It's crazy.
Yeah, I'm still discovering little new details here and there and it makes me have a growing appreciation for the work that went into this mod. The gray hair for Chris Berman was one of the best things to see, in my opinion.
Yes, this is fantastic stuff by LostsouL. I'm looking forward to his future updates with this mod. The fact that he was able to change the jerseys by itself is HUGE. And Chris Berman has gray hair.
So I just got this game. I will say that the game play is a lot more real and tougher than Madden 04-08(The ones I still Own). However, Those Madden games allow for making each offensive & Defensive formation customized with the players you want in there. Madden also has the tutorials for those who don't want to try and read the tiny font in the manual as well as just being much easier to put in the disc and play. Plus if you save the game on Madden you don't ever have to reset your line up in each formation. The Halftime and Postgame is cute on 2K5, but the announcers don't compare to Al & John. For my taste I prefer Madden.
Madden was so good from 04-08, which is why I still play Madden 08 to this day. Both ESPN NFL 2K5 and Madden NFL 2005 were great buys, no matter which one you went with. I actually preferred Madden 2005 more at first until I stopped trying to play NFL 2K5 with the same habits that I did in Madden. Once I did that, then I began to love NFL 2K5 and it became my preference. I found Al Michaels and John Madden's commentary to be dry to the point where I turned it off. The NFL 2K5 team was a breath of fresh air to me, especially with their enthusiasm. Maybe if they sampled the 1980s version of Al Michaels that I remembered from the 1980 USA hockey team and from his earlier days with Monday Night Football, I would have liked Madden's commentary more. The crazy thing is that I remember putting in a lot of hours in both NFL 2K5 and Madden 2005 when they were released because they were both really good. Plus, because of the price drop, buying both games actually ended up being around the cost of one game.
All football games since the 90s have had refs. The excuses EA devs have given for not including them anymore is complete bullshit. There's no such thing as "Sim" NFL football anymore. It's arcade football. EA has destroyed it.
Yeah. The fact of the matter is that EA is really zoning in on 7-10 year olds when creating their games. That's really their target audience because most of them don't understand the game to the extent you or I would. And then the Ultimate Team stuff is perfect for them because they will just impulsively keep purchasing packs or begging their parents to do so for them. Madden is horrible, but I also know the game isn't even made for me in the first place. And you're right, it is nowhere close to being "sim."

Don't ever lose that passion that you have as a developer. Man, I remember the "First Person Football" feature. NFL 2K5 was actually very ahead of its time.

Has the community found a way to make this game playable online again? The SOCOM community managed to create a method to restore the online services so you can play the Multiplayer with people online using the PCSX2 emulator. Has anyone done something similar for the old 2k or Madden games?
That's a great question that I don't know the answer to but it should be theoretically possible. From my preliminary research, I came across the video: ruclips.net/video/eve6_OUHGxA/видео.html. Also, it may be possible to play online through something like Parsec.
2K football represented some great gridiron games. But NFL 2K5 was the lone game in the series that was successful in diverting my attention away from Madden. I never looked at Madden the same after 2K5.
I hear you. I've had the game on both the Xbox and PS2 and I'm glad I kept my PS2 copy of the game. Which is interesting because I haven't had a long history of keeping my physical copy games.
That's fair. One thing I will say for both NFL 2K and Madden was that there were always money plays you could run and get easy scores. For that reason, I've always played trying to mix up the playbook as a rule of thumb. NFL Fever was a great series for the Xbox. I really miss all the other NFL games such as Fever, Gameday, Blitz, and Quarterback Club.

The first thing I had to do when I originally played it was getting rid of my Madden playing habits at the time. I had both NFL 2K5 and Madden 2005 the year they both came out and what had worked for me in Madden was getting me killed in 2K5. One of the biggest changes for me was that in Madden, I could throw on the run and be accurate while in 2K5, throwing on the run led to inaccurate passes and easier interceptions. NFL 2K5 was the first football game that I felt really rewarded the player for utilizing the pocket and making throws with both feet planted.

Yep. No protection at all. I trip out that Seattle is now a team that can't even make the playoffs. During their Super Bowl years, I thought they would be good for so much longer. But when the Legion of Boom was no longer there, Marshawn Lynch was gone, and so much more fell on Russell Wilson, they began a steady decline.

Yes! LostsouL did a wonderful job with this. What he did with the jerseys was huge, considering how hard it must have been to change them. I'm a Niners fan, but the Seahawks jerseys are my favorite. What he was able to do to make Seattle's jerseys more true to life is tremendous.

@@sillywilly9633 100% agree. 2K was ascending very quickly at that time. They eventually dethroned NBA Live and MLB 2K ending up outlasting MVP Baseball. College Hoops was superior to NCAA Basketball and there were some gamers that preferred the NHL 2K series to EA's NHL series.
True. Given how Madden has gone these days, we never knew how true it was when they said, "You can't coach that." Apparently, you can't coach EA to really care about the "sport" in their sports games.

Yes! I am tired of companies relying on patches rather than making sure games are working properly out of the gate. That's what made older games so special. These developers and publishers literally had only one shot to get it right.

It was a great business move for them, but a weak move in terms of competition. That's why it's been satisfying to see 2K own them in basketball to the point that they gave up on NBA Live. And what's so poetic about it is that 2K didn't have to resort to the same tactics EA did. 2K just made a superior game.
@Del Jones NBA 2K11 was the first NBA game in years to have Michael Jordan, right? And you were able to use classic Bulls teams for the first time in that game as well I believe. When 2K got Jordan, that was actually the end for NBA Live. It started with the signature styles where the players actually moved, dribbled, and shot like themselves. But once Jordan came into the picture, GAME OVER.

I'll never forget stopping by Target next door from my workplace to get this game on release day. I remember seeing it behind the case for 19.99 and Madden was sitting there at 49.99 and I'm like "well I loved playing 2k4 at my friend's house so 2k5 it is!" And then I cracked open the game case while I was inside my car and reading through the game manual. Memories . Those were the best days!
Yes! When I would buy games back in those days, I would go back to the parking lot and sit in my car for no less than 10 minutes just to look through the instruction booklet and whatever else came with the game. Then I finally would drive home and play the game. Video game packaging was so much better back in those days. You could get a poster, map, or a card depending on the game you bought. And the other great thing about those days? No having to download an update before finally getting to play.
It come out in july ! One month before Madden . They really was trying to cut there throats . 20$ all kinds of madden heads tryed it atleast . I remember my buddy's telling me i was crazy saying 2k5 blows madden 05 out of the water . Seeing these comments almost 20 years later proves i was right !

The immersion in this game is amazing. Imagine this with next gen graphics and power. It would be great. 2K needs to get the NFL to release EA as the sole rights to the video game. EA is a joke right now.
Yeah, a lof of us would love to see what 2K could do in 2021 with the NFL license especially with 17 years of advancement in technology within the gaming industry. One thing I would be concerned about is if 2K would focus too much on "My Player" to the detriment of the rest of the game.
In the meantime, NFL 2K5 is more than good enough for me, even in 2021. I still also play Madden 08 on PC, and I've really come to enjoy Legend Bowl.

Had this game when I was 13 and I'll be almost 30 at the end of the year. Still outclasses madden despite the changes over the years with gaming consoles to the NFL and its rules and other changes.
The moment I first played this game, it was and still is better than even the best that Madden has ever put out. And there used to be a time that Madden was really good. You will need a PC for this mod because it works only through the PCSX2 emulator so far. It would be nice if it could be played on a regular PS2, but I don't think the actual system would be able to handle the updated textures.

@@bobby6427 I read in an interview that EA was in panic mode when NFL 2K5 was released for $19.99. It screwed up EA's plans big time for Madden 2005. EA had thought that they were going to be able to charge full price for the game but then had to drop it down to $29.99 in response to NFL 2K5.

Unfortunately I don't have a PC, I have a macbook and the Xbox S and from what I read, sounds like you can't get resurrected for the next gen consoles. Maybe that will change one day though?

It's unfortunate the days of NFL game competition no longer exists. I didn't play much of NFL Game Day or NFL Fever, but the little I played, I could tell they were solid games in their own right. There was also NFL Quarterback Club too. Those days where consumers had choices were great days.

I love 2K5, it’s one of my favorites to play. However, I noticed just two small things that could be edited (yes, I’m still grateful for this update and looking even forward to getting a pc just for this) But when you first loaded into the game before the coin toss, it still had Seattle’s original logo (from the actual release of this game) and the same goes for the Rams’ logo as well. The next small thing is the color of the numbers on the jerseys and the fact that they’re still the original color from 04 so it doesn’t match the color of the new uniforms.
But other than that, that’s is a great mod!
@@zekerodriguez13 I think those are very fair observations. LostsouL (the mod creator) is going to release a version 1.3 update on the mod soon and he may have addressed the logo situation. With the jerseys, I think there are some limitations in terms of how far he can edit them. If it was a native PC game, it may be easier to manipulate the textures, but this is editing that was done for a PS2 emulator so the editing was probably even more complex. Of course, I know nothing of the process and am just speculating.

The update looks fire but whoever did the ratings really must of hit the pipe...
I don't know how the conversion works, but it seems like the ratings were determined by attempting to bring Madden's ratings to 2K5. That's why the ratings are ridiculously high. Some of the roster creators over the years for NFL 2K5 have also had some really interesting ratings. I'm talking like the entire team rating being a "33" overall. But I can confirm that the game still plays great even with the wacky ratings.
They are a direct pull from the madden ratings. Because there are differences, it causes the players to be higher rated.
Makes it good for exhibition or playoff/fantasy draft games.
There was a save file kicking around for last season that had a franchise file, that worked well.
I highly recommend you check it out. Base game is amazing, their improvements make it damn near flawless.

This is freaking amazing, I was just playing the original NFL2K on my dreamcast last week.
The Dreamcast was an amazing system and I wish that it had lasted longer. There were some great games on that system and the SEGA Sports collection was great. It really suffered from the lack of major third-party developers. I remember both the early 2K football games with Randy Moss on the cover and the 2K basketball games with Allen Iverson as the cover man.

@@infinitystar6208 I have both of those games and the mods for them are incredible. Have you ever heard of the Wabbajack website? That's where I installed The Phoenix Flavour mod for Skyrim Special Edition and the Fallout 4 Enhanced Edition mod. It's kind of like an installer package that installs a bunch of mods into the game for you at one time rather than having to do each one separately by yourself. It can take quite a while but I'm happy with the result of both mods. They add so much to both games.

Yeah. I wish there was a way to play this mod on the actual consoles but that isn't possible at this point. You might already know this, but in case you don't, if you have a Max Drive (by Codejunkies) for your PS2, you are able to download updated NFL 2K5 rosters on a PC, save it to the drive, and then upload it to your PS2 to be able to play with those rosters. I used to do it all the time. The best sites for NFL 2K5 rosters are forums.operationsports.com/forums/espn-nfl-2k5-rosters/ (you have to sign up for a free account to download files) and nfl2k5rosters.com/.

For whatever reason, RUclips isn't allowing me to respond to your comment from the other video. The NFL 2K5 Resurrected Mod can only be played on PC. I would recommend getting a gaming PC to play because it will need the proper graphics card and processor to run the game smoothly. But having a PC is the first step. From there, follow the instructions at github.com/lostsoul63b/NFL2K5-Resurrected. There's a Help Video that is really helpful. This update is for the PCSX2 (PS2) emulator. You will still need to provide the game and the BIOS for the emulator yourself, which you can find out how to obtain through searching online.

Dude, I wouldn't even buy Madden if this update didn't exist. I'm thankful for the people who have been updating the NFL 2K5 and Madden 08 rosters over the years. Those are what I've been playing for years for my NFL gaming itch.
Yep. I'm definitely going to have to get this. Quite wild that this gets some attention on PC, just in a year when EA's Madden saw fit to "Legacy Edition" the PC, this year, like they did FIFA on the Switch for 2 going on 3 years. EA really set themselves up for this game to really take them to town on the PC. It doesn't help to leave a gaping hole on a platform. With today's talent, people are going to swoop in and make your game obsolete and then you won't have the revenue on the platform.
EA just continues to drop the ball every single year and as long as they are making money, they do not care about the state of their Madden games. But eventually the negative publicity will catch up with them. Even Pat McAfee has criticized Madden. More and more NFL players are criticizing it.

Those details are what made people fall in love with NFL 2K5 from the beginning. Is the game flawless? Not by a long shot, but it is easily the best NFL sim that I've ever played. This game that is nearly 20 years old got so many things right.

I personally would like to see a revival in sports gaming. The lack of competition in individual sports games has really affected us as consumers because we now typically just have one choice per sport. Madden for NFL, NBA 2K for NBA, The Show for MLB, and EA for NHL. The companies behind the games have gotten more comfortable without having another developer/publisher to go against. I know a lot of people who enjoy today's sports games and I'm glad that they enjoy them. But I think sports gaming is capable of much more. That's why so many sports gamers keep looking back to the past.
Also, I've believed for a long time that the annual cycle in sports gaming has been detrimental. From a business standpoint, it's guaranteed money every year for a brand. But it has hindered sports games from reaching their full potential. We're in 2021. Sports games should be way more feature-heavy and customizable than they are today. I'm still in shock that as much as I like MLB: The Show, the stadium creator was barely implemented this year.
But before I went on that tangent, NFL 2K5 and APF 2K8 are excellent football games that stand the test of time.

The only thing I'm noticing different is when I go to Dev9 in config, it's only giving me an option to log onto console and log to file. It's not giving me the option to enable ethernet or enable hdd. No options either. That's the only step I'm missing I think.

That's why competition is so important. Madden had a few good games after getting its NFL exclusive license. I still play Madden 08 on PC to this day. But once Madden went to the Xbox 360 and PS3, that's when I started to see the slow decline.
I couldn't imagine an NFL 2K5/APF 2K8 hybrid coming out on consoles now...with the commentary of course.....Madden would never be the same again
What is scary, imagine the amount of animations that a current 2K football game would have....imagine the depth you can put on a player...signature jukes and spins, running style, catch animations based on the size and position of the player(like rimgrazers and Uber athletic dunks in 2k) the shit would be crazy and we need the commentary back...
That's a good point. Since NFL 2K5, we've seen how 2K took the NBA 2K and implemented so many signature animations to really make the virtual NBA come to life. Signature dribbling, shooting forms, dunks, layups, floaters, hook shots, jumpshots, mannerisms, etc. All of that in an NFL game would be extraordinary.
@@videogamersadvocate9925 and technically APF2K8 had that depending on the ability you chose... If you had the power back ability then then your player would have next level trucks and stiff arms... But if you just gave your player battering ram then his boosted trucking would give him animations where he is literally destroying a player.... Just like the juke moves were different if you gave him the ability

@@videogamersadvocate9925 Opera football was a lot more polished.... The interactions between CB/WR and lineman were good in 2K5...but 2K8 took it to a new level... I played the 34 outside blitzing linebacker...but I didn't really know many moves except bullrush...but then I learned the rip and the club move and I got good at it

I didn't know that about the voice-over guy. Wow, so it's been 15 years, huh? I've played this game through the years because the community support is tremendous. People have created updated rosters every season since the game was released so the game never got old for me. And there are a lot of great classic rosters out there as well.
I played the original NFL 2k5 until like 4 years ago. I would edit the rookies in the off-season and find guys who's pic looked the most like the actual players,then adjust their stats accordingly and give them the names of the actual guys being drafted. I still don't play Madden,I just dream of the times I actually had a football game worth playing...now I just play NBA 2k all the time.
Yeah I hear you. For me, I always found myself coming back to the sports games that I really enjoyed from the past when I tried to play the newer games so I stopped buying the newer games. I really do like MLB The Show though. Other than that, I play NFL 2K5 and Madden 08 on PC with updated rosters for the NFL. NBA 2K14 on PC with the Ultimate Base Roster mod is my go-to for NBA.

Outstanding upload!!!! I played ESPN NFL 2K5 on the OG XBOX last night and can easily see why it is STILL the BEST FOOTBALL VIDEO GAME OF ALL-TIME!!!! I also miss the days when sports games were fun to play and when we had choices in video games (e.g. NFL - 2K, Madden, GameDay, Fever, Blitz, Tecmo/NBA - 2K, Live, Inside Drive, Jam, Hangtime, ShootOut, NHL - EA's, 2K's, FaceOff, Open Ice, etc.). I'm glad to own many of my old systems so I can still enjoy them!

I had the original Xbox at one point and also had NFL 2K5 on there. Visually, it was superior to PS2 and I remember that you had to have the PS2 hard drive to be able to get the halftime show with real highlights instead of still photos. That wasn't a problem at all on Xbox. I do like the way the graphics like when the resolution is upscaled on the PCSX2 emulator. And you can create a virtual hard drive on the emulator so you can have full highlights like you saw towards the end of the video.
Yeah and the Xbox version loaded way faster I still got it and remade the chiefs in a franchise mode, that mode was so deep as well with highlights from other games around he league during the season and weekly reports like damn 2k was on they shit !

Wow... After staring at Madden for years this looks incredible. Physics based gaming just makes a way more submersible game.
I love the way NFL 2K5 plays and it was one of the few football games where I equally enjoy playing offense and defense. Madden during this time period was very fun to play as well. The PS2/Xbox era produced some great football games.

I still have my PS2 copy, but only after I rebought it a little over ten years ago. At one point I also had the game on the original Xbox too. So I've bought it three times and just decided to keep it for good. I used to always trade in games that I wasn't playing much anymore for newer games which was why I hardly ever kept games in the past.

Yes, LostsouL and the rest of the team are awesome for doing this. Keep at it and you will get the hang of this game. When I first played NFL 2K5 back in the day, I actually didn't like it. But that was because I was trying to play it with my years of Madden habits that weren't working. Once I abandoned those habits and embraced the unique way that NFL 2K5 is meant to be played, then I have enjoyed it ever since. I'm glad you are enjoying it.
@@videogamersadvocate9925 its so much better than Madden.I stopped playing madden in 2010. after the 3 way team play ended. from that moment on I've seen the same crap play game after game after game, watched franchise get obliviated and replaced with micro transaction ultimate team. lets not get me started on when they added fair play to online play and took away minimum speed threshold. We are so blessed to live in a time where gamers who actually know the game and have a passion for it still, use their skills to make games that were already good... better. kudos to the 2k resurrected team!

AWSOME! EXCELLENT JOB!. There's a way to play using the Broadcast Cam and it's just like 2K Basketball 🏀 Broadcast Camera View. It's going to be interesting to see the 2 Football Games that 2k Sports will be introducing next year. Madden may look better but all the flaws in the game take away the beauty was it.
I agree. Madden is a prime example of a beautiful car that has a messed-up engine. Great to look out when it sits idle, but the moment you open the hood or try to drive it, then you realize how terrible the car actually is. Even Madden 2005 is worlds better than today's Madden.

Man this game was just done right period, 7-3 game halftime show engaging with actual plays from the game, the hits sound like collisions, vendor tossing a guy some 🥜 they actually cared and it showed, don't even wanna think about nfl 2k22 they'd f it up with microtransaction's.
Look at the defensive play by Flowers at 10:00 and how he plays the ball. I have not seen anything like that in Madden. The halftime show and post-game shows are absolute treats. You can tell that 2k5 was developed and published by people who know and love football. Yes, I would worry about a new NFL 2K game, especially in today's gaming market.

This was actually one of the first video games I ever played. I didn't know anything about football but my grandfather who is a big fan played it with me and i had to have been 3 years old. I would always pick the Packers because their logo was a G and it was the same letter as my first name.

Yeah, I'm still discovering little new details here and there and it makes me have a growing appreciation for the work that went into this mod. The gray hair for Chris Berman was one of the best things to see, in my opinion.

I definitely agree. It's a shame that 2K can no longer make NFL sims but they made their last NFL game stand the test of time.
So I just got this game. I will say that the game play is a lot more real and tougher than Madden 04-08(The ones I still Own). However, Those Madden games allow for making each offensive & Defensive formation customized with the players you want in there. Madden also has the tutorials for those who don't want to try and read the tiny font in the manual as well as just being much easier to put in the disc and play. Plus if you save the game on Madden you don't ever have to reset your line up in each formation. The Halftime and Postgame is cute on 2K5, but the announcers don't compare to Al & John. For my taste I prefer Madden.
Madden was so good from 04-08, which is why I still play Madden 08 to this day. Both ESPN NFL 2K5 and Madden NFL 2005 were great buys, no matter which one you went with. I actually preferred Madden 2005 more at first until I stopped trying to play NFL 2K5 with the same habits that I did in Madden. Once I did that, then I began to love NFL 2K5 and it became my preference. I found Al Michaels and John Madden's commentary to be dry to the point where I turned it off. The NFL 2K5 team was a breath of fresh air to me, especially with their enthusiasm. Maybe if they sampled the 1980s version of Al Michaels that I remembered from the 1980 USA hockey team and from his earlier days with Monday Night Football, I would have liked Madden's commentary more. But we all have our preferences. Thanks for your comment.

The crazy thing is that the earliest Madden games had refs too. It's insane how far this series has fallen.
All football games since the 90s have had refs. The excuses EA devs have given for not including them anymore is complete bullshit. There's no such thing as "Sim" NFL football anymore. It's arcade football. EA has destroyed it.
Yeah. The fact of the matter is that EA is really zoning in on 7-10 year olds when creating their games. That's really their target audience because most of them don't understand the game to the extent you or I would. And then the Ultimate Team stuff is perfect for them because they will just impulsively keep purchasing packs or begging their parents to do so for them. Madden is horrible, but I also know the game isn't even made for me in the first place. And you're right, it is nowhere close to being "sim."

Has the community found a way to make this game playable online again? The SOCOM community managed to create a method to restore the online services so you can play the Multiplayer with people online using the PCSX2 emulator. Has anyone done something similar for the old 2k or Madden games?

2K football represented some great gridiron games. But NFL 2K5 was the lone game in the series that was successful in diverting my attention away from Madden. I never looked at Madden the same after 2K5.

That's fair. One thing I will say for both NFL 2K and Madden was that there were always money plays you could run and get easy scores. For that reason, I've always played trying to mix up the playbook as a rule of thumb.
NFL Fever was a great series for the Xbox. I really miss all the other NFL games such as Fever, Gameday, Blitz, and Quarterback Club.

The first thing I had to do when I originally played it was getting rid of my Madden playing habits at the time. I had both NFL 2K5 and Madden 2005 the year they both came out and what had worked for me in Madden was getting me killed in 2K5.
One of the biggest changes for me was that in Madden, I could throw on the run and be accurate while in 2K5, throwing on the run led to inaccurate passes and easier interceptions. NFL 2K5 was the first football game that I felt really rewarded the player for utilizing the pocket and making throws with both feet planted.

Yep. No protection at all. I trip out that Seattle is now a team that can't even make the playoffs. During their Super Bowl years, I thought they would be good for so much longer. But when the Legion of Boom was no longer there, Marshawn Lynch was gone, and so much more fell on Russell Wilson, they began a steady decline.

Yes! LostsouL did a wonderful job with this. What he did with the jerseys was huge, considering how hard it must have been to change them. I'm a Niners fan, but the Seahawks jerseys are my favorite. What he was able to do to make Seattle's jerseys more true to life is tremendous.

Whoa whoa whoa! LOL I understand where you're coming from though. Do you have a gaming computer? You can only play this on PC. You just need an NFL 2K5 disc iso and PS2 BIOS that you can use with the emulator that is provided in the mod download. I would do an internet search to find out how to obtain both.
