    I'm a TNG/DS9 kinda guy, so I never particularly noticed TOS era ships beyond their historical significance. But Trekyards has helped me appreciate them more, specially the Constitution class refit, so it has become one of my favorite ship classes now.

    I love the Constitution Class. Its shape, its texture, its interior, and the orange ramscoops. It's such a classic, and it's the ship I'd love to command.

    Commander Cockings, it seems to me that in this video you're making a concerted effort to speak more slowly and clearly for the audience, and I really appreciate it. Even just this slight adjustment makes a huge difference in comprehensibility and aesthetic. Thank you, and please keep at it, this is great! =)

      hay! yes absolutely...i am acting and reading it like a radio announcer rather than in an energetic way. The advantage of this show is that its 100% audio and not meant to be personality driven plus i am just reading the script, not also having to look at a webcam in between sentences to ensure it looks as if i am engaged. I can be a lot more focused on this rather than the main show where i also have to be a "presenter" and "personality"
      Glad you are enjoying them!

    According to the Starfleet Technical Manual, the Constitution class heavy cruisers were built with three sets of dual phaser banks(one bow, one port, one starboard) and two sets of photon torpedo launchers (one bow, one aft).
    That document is pretty much the canon for the TOS era ships. Or at least, it was until the next generation came out. At which point, the next generation abandoned the past TOS canon.

      we dont have 3D models of those interior spaces, these videos are exclusively a short bite sized yet very detailed look at these ships. Short being the operative word as opposed to our other main long form content. When we get to the detailed connie episode it will have all those details and likely be over 1hr long.

      They take a long time to make and with a separate 3rd perosn that does the LCARS graphics, he is not as far as we can be in house. OH and because we haven't increased out patreon support...no one is donating more to our channel really...so we cant fund new shows. We may set a goal at $1250 a month ($250 more than we have now) and be able to make them :) lots of great ships to look at! Support us on Patreon to see more!

      Are you talking about the running lights on the rear top portion of the secondary hull? It looks like they are visible through the warp nacelle support struts as the model spins. Just curious what sort of setting it is in whatever program Samuel is using for the 3D modeling he does.
      I hope he won't think that I'm giving him a hard time about the render. I am just simply curious. I really am envious of his renders and animations. Overall, they look awesome! :) I really need to learn how to do 3D modeling. Seems like I recall Sam saying that he used Lightwave? I'm probably wrong, so don't quote me on that one! ;) :P But, I have dabbled a bit with it. Nothing of consequence or any real significance, though. :/

    If someone built a brand new Constitution refit from the keel up wouldn't it be "Enterprise Class" ? and only a surviving old Connie that was also refitted would be a Constitution II class. ? Also isn't the A called "Enterprise Class" (at least some of the time) suggesting it was a new build (before it was renamed Enterprise A)

      @@johnstibby I always thought Enterprise A was from scratch but I've heard recently that it was the Yorktown refit. That doesn't make sense to me personally but it might be canon now. I remember in the FASA game the refit class was called Constitution II class, and definitely some were built from scratch. Pretty sure Enterprise A was a new ship in that game at least. I think everything in that game was considered canon at one point too. Seems like Star Trek is a multiverse now so maybe both are true lol

    What's your stance on the theory that the USS Constitution (NCC-1700) was the second vessel in that class to carry the name in order to explain why ships like the USS Constellation (NCC-1017), USS Republic (NCC-1371), USS Intrepid (NCC-1631), USS Exeter (NCC-1672), etc all have lower registry numbers than the class leader?

    • @josephheston9238
      @josephheston9238 6 лет назад

      This is where Franz Joseph's registry numbers should have been used. Considering that the producers just rearranged the digits for the _Constellation_ (1017 is an anagram of 1701), they could have went with 1710 instead (thus keeping the registry line consistent).

    One thing i will never understand about Star Trek is how low crew compliment is. I mean Constitution is 288,8 m long and has only 430 crew but Nimitz Class aircaft carrier is 332,8 m long and has crew compliment up and above 5000.

    • @Maxxorz
      @Maxxorz 7 лет назад +1

      Yes but in comparison the brand new Gerald Ford carriers have less than the crew of the Nimitz class. A fully-staffed Ford-class carrier has a crew of about 800 or so less staff than a Nimitz. That's nearly 20% less crew in the span of about 40 years. Just remember that an extensive array of common, menial tasks aboard a starship are automated. Things like food preparation, cleaning, basic repairs, and day-to-day operational tasks are largely automated and handled by various computer and ship systems, eliminating the need for a large service staff which would otherwise be idle most of the day.

    • @Tiberius11111111
      @Tiberius11111111 7 лет назад +2

      yea you got the point here

    • @redshirt0479
      @redshirt0479 7 лет назад +4

      Plus 2,480 of the roughly 5,000 crew members of a Nimitz class carrier are part of the ship's air wing.
      A better comparison would be to the old Iowa class battleships which had a crew of 2,700 when first commissioned in the 1940s, but by the 1980s the standard crew was 1,800.

    • @dougs7367
      @dougs7367 6 лет назад

      Well a good bit of the Constituion class starship's length is the warp nacelles. The actual inhabitable area is not that sizeable. Also an aircraft carrier exists within the Earth's atmosphere so there is no worry about oxygen supply and they can resupply with food, water etc relatively easily. Life support and supplies on a starship designed for deep space missions can handle far fewer crew.

    • @DavidMiller565380
      @DavidMiller565380 5 лет назад

      Other responses are on point, but also: naval ships don't go on 5 year deployments, either. That calls for more attention paid to crew comfort than is needed for a 6 month stint.
