'Benny Goodman? Never heard of him'.
I always crack up hearing him saying that.
He passed away in 1987.
At one time, when he was still alive, I proposed playing some of his music to a fellow communicator who had a jazz program at a local radio station.
The other guy was not receptive to the idea - and was more than a littlr bigoted. He claimed Goodman stole jazz from Black musicians!
Years later, after Benny had died, I asked the radio guy if he remembered saying what you've just read. He claimed - perhaps out of shame - he had never said that.
I came to the comments to see who caught on lol
To have that many heavy hitters in one room at that time...damn.
Marvel: Infinity War and Endgame are the most ambitious crossover ever!
A Song Is Born: holds my sheet music.
Every time I start thinking I'm a pretty darned good musician and get to feeling a little full of myself, I watch these guys and realize I'm not even allowed in the room... magical stuff...
I met Louis Armstrong once in 1965. He was very sweet and friendly. What a talent.
Watching Tommy Dorsey bust up when Benny stomps his foot out of time is worth watching over and over. This was a pinnacle of American music in a 4 minute clip.
"He's quite proficient, I assure you." Love that part.
I’ve seen this vid many, many times and I never tire of it…thanks for posting👍
This is absolutely wonderful.
All these heavy hitters in one place….WOW!!
Can you believe the players in this room? Outstanding.
It takes an incredible amount of talent and timing to be able to do things out of time. Anyone who listens to Spike Jones would know what I mean.
Benny Goodman never heard of himself
I saw Lionel Hampton in the 90's. Lovely man. An inspired concept for a movie which brought all the these greats together in one place..
That was fabulous! Loved it!
Uau, que filme legal!😎Só gente boa : Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey , Louis Armstrong! Todos juntos assim, é raridade, vou assistir!👍
Thank you for this video!
Well, it's nice the "Professor" was able conjure up something!
With all those names above, somebody forgot Louie Bellson.
Never heard of him.
Amazing movie with amazing stars! Sadly, except for this and other films from Hollywood's Golden Era - like 'Ball of Fire' with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck (1941) - and these RUclips clips, this great music is dead.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
Excellent
