And Overlord is that playthrough from 3 months ago where you used a few exploits to bypass the early game grind, but you've got no idea wtf you were doing in it anymore.
I think the secret to Rimaru’s likability is the fact that he’s a 40-year-old man and not a teenager. He has a much more mellow and mature approach to things than other isekai protags. He’s really chill and sensible as well as just being a friendly guy!
That's why I loved the manga but found the anime painful to watch, at least they did the animation properly (looking at you Black clover), but they gave him the voice of a screaming high pitched four year old.
After watching this review, I came to the comments looking for this exact point too. That has to be one of the most important character decisions from a writing perspective IMO.
Z's Life I found the dub to be slightly more enjoyable, the jokes are better translated and the characters voice seem fitting but hey, maybe its cuz I watched the dub before the sub lol

@@Babylauncher3000 She/He's not that overpowered. I don't wanna spoil too much but there are 'disaster levels' with the high demon lords being level catostrophe. @@BrokenRazorButterflythey did get worse in light novel, where Rimuru purposely missed fatal shots so he can hear their screams of agony, or at least that’s what I remember
My favorite Isekai manga so far is one called "Exterminator" about a guy who was an exteminator in real life, you know, as in pest control. The guy that kills your cockroaches and rats. He dies and is reincarnated in a fantasy world. He has no battle skills or magic or anything of the sort. So he just becomes an exterminator to make money. But he is just REALLY good at it. so when somebody offers him 1 silver per rat killed in a sewer, expecting him to kill 10 or 15, but he makes up some poison bait and ends up killing thousands of them, he makes a ton of money. Then when he disposes of the poisoned rat corpses in a high level forest, where high level monsters feed on them and then die, he gains a shit ton of XP and becomes powerful. But he doesn't even use that power. He just keeps on exterminating. only using his xp to buy magic abilities that make his job as an exterminator more efficient.
Slime does something that few isekais manage to do. Make me care about the MC rather than the harem. He could carry the whole story on his own without a single girl there and still be so gosh darn likable
I’m of a different mind. Rimeru gets literally everything with little to no effort and it’s infuriating. > Spawns in cave with rare valuable resources. > Befriends supremely powerful dragon in a day > Gains a army just by giving them names > Effortlessly replicate items that require expert craftsmanship. > Becomes pack leader of wolves after 1 attack. > Absorbs a powerful fire demon because he’s immune to its attacks Why should I care about anything happening when Rimeru can become so overwhelmingly powerful so damn quickly? He has more power progression in 5 episodes than most shounen heroes do in 100. I cannot take anything happening seriously.
@@Babylauncher3000 that's literally every isekai protagonist. As Gigguk says, Slime plays the isekai tropes straight, but only focusing on the good bits in a nice package rather than the frustrating parts that plague a lot of them What makes Rimuru stand out is he has a fun personality going to compliment his absurd power, and unlike most others he actually has an in-universe justification as to why he gains so much power: a special skill which is literally absorption of everything, rather than just "because protagonist"
Stryzzar I’m gonna have to call bullshit. The best and most beloved Isekai series have their main characters put in ACTUAL work. > Ainz in *Overlord* played Yggdrasil for 12 years and was the guild master of one the best in the game. > Kazuma in *Konosuba* is a poor low-level adventurer who gets maybe 1 new skill every season. > Subaru in *Re:Zero* literally dies over half a dozen times from being too weak.
Stryzzar “best bits”? The more I think about ‘Reincarnated as a Slime’ the worse it gets. How can sentient beings capable of deductive reasoning not name themselves? How can society even function when less than 1% of the population have names? Why does Rimeru have amazon Alexa in his head that literally knows almost everything? It’s stupid and distracting.
@@Babylauncher3000 Slime is literally a more light hearted version of Overlord, and Ainz is just as ridiculously overpowered. The effort they put in is garnering loyalty and not fighting fights. Konosuba and Re:Zero are not even comparable as those are isekai parodies which do the exact opposite to literally every isekai cliche. Along with the fact that Kazuma and Subaru aren't even that likable. One is an asshole who never develops and endlessly fails, while the other is so generic and lacking in personality he makes Kirito look interesting. And you just proved my point with both of them, both of those shows have people liking the girls of the harem over MC (Megumin, Lalatina, Rem, Emilia .etc) Did you even watch the fucking video? Best bits being "having an adventure in another world with cool powers" rather than edgelord harem lead If you don't like Slime and just here to shit on it, then stop wasting both our time and don't bother responding
I'm just imagining an anime where the dragon has an existential crisis over becoming a grain of sand. Over time, he witnesses many things, travels to many continents. Sees the rise and fall of civilizations and life on that planet to only be reset over and over again. And at the end of it all he gets thrown into a volcano only to wake up from his long rest, back in his dragon form. And the anime ends with him going back down to the first beach, to relax and take in the scenery. Completely changed from the experience of a grain of sand.
One thing I liked about Slime (aside from what everyone pointed out) is how it took a real gaming mechanic and made it fit the story in a interesting way, I mean the naming system, where a monster having a name instead of just being a goblin makes them stronger.
One of my favorite scenes is sorta related to this. At one point they had made up their own video game idea to make a fake reference which I found funny personally. And the way they managed to fit a fake video game reference with other lines was just a bit impressive to me.
if overlord and slime existed in the same world would ainz and rimurur be friends or enemies? their both from another world which is one of the main things their looking for (plus the fact that a slime is a type of monster so theres some bonus points in ains book) but the whole rimuru trying to be peacefull and ains taking over the world thing definitely clash a little lol
Brandon Withnell If Ainz again tell something to Demiurge so, what he will attack because “it’s a great plan”. This is will be war. If Ainz will be attack on Tempest’s ally, that’s will be a point of limit. But Tempest doesn’t have a reason be a friend with Nazarick, especially if Rimuru will know what demiurge doing with people.
Wait so the cicada is the tsundere dragon which, after being swallowed by a slime, is now a vending machine? I see no problem with this. -Someone help... please-

Like its slowly building a civilisation or something. I just love this kind of isekai especially LN like How A Realist Hero Rebuilt The Kingdom, it's just amazing.
The thing I like about this show is: 1) Slime can act as both male and female, he can think as a 37 years old guy, which is a great source for monologues. 2) Rich color palette 3) Smooth animations, badass fight scenes ( rimuru vs ogres, gabiru vs orc general etc) 4) Voice actors, Rimuru, Shion, Gabiru, Rigurd and many others all are solid. 5) Progress of a town is already fun to watch 6) OP but humble main is the best kind for comedy. (One punch man) 7) There are both funny and sad scenes, mostly funny though (Shizu's death, Shions cooking, Gabiru vs Gobta fight, Goblins transformation, Duplication of swords, Calling Veldora baldy, lol) 8) Even if it is shounen anime, we dont get to see a highschooler punk with tiny body and ugly ugly cracked manly-wannabe voice, which is nice. 9) The anime is actually very bloody, drama without gore is unthinkable for me. In this show people appearently lose limbs, is good 10) Lots of sarcastic references from other shows, feels like slime is aware of anime logic already if not the 4th wall.

@@Error-eb9gv I agree with you that splinter infections are truly unappreciated and shrugged off by the unaware masses. However, it is unacceptable to satirise this sort of thing. People die from splinter infections, but frankly, making fun of those who've died is not worth the awareness it brings. This sort of joke brings awareness through controversy, and in this case, the ends certainly do not justify the means.
All Isekai is different though. The term "Isekai" refers to "travelling to another world", and what the protagonist encounters there and the themes of the story can vary from story to story.
@@ariqyudia7936 Not it's not. Isekai means 'another world', (that's how fan TL's do it anyway) the premise being the protag lived in his/her world then got transferred to another world, one way or another. If the protag was in that world and from that world, then it's fantasy. Typing that out made me realize that Alice might really be an isekai protagonist.🤔
Fun fact: slime is actually one of the OG isekai even though the anime is pretty new, much like 無職轉生. The only reason they didn’t make it to the anime earlier is pretty much same as why that McDonald demon lord didn’t get a second season.
Another part I like about the show is everytime when Rimuru is about to do a big decision he will invite all important subordinates, team leaders and important members for the new country to join the meeting. He respects the opinion of all the race. And I like that every characters are useful.
So we're a bit into Slime now and I've got to say, I've noticed what it is that I like most about it. In this anime, being good works. Now I feel like I've got to expand of this for it to make sense, so give me a second. In most anime, and even in most non-anime, good actions only end up costing the person making said actions in one way or another. Doing good in the world requires sacrifices, and all you get back is the fact that people are happy, and what most people don't recognize is that this message is a double edged sword. 1st, if someone is less selfless, they may be led to ask, "Why should I do things for other people if it's just going to end up costing me in the long run?" and 2nd, it makes the subconscious connection that if someone is not sacrificing something, then what they're doing is not "good". And this is by no means a modern development. In FMA, Edd had to give up his alchemy to save his brother. In Steins;gate, basically every step forward came with massive amounts of personal sacrifice. In Code Geass, Lelouce had to give up his life in order for world peace. Frodo had to lose his finger at mount Doom, Harry Potter had to give up a powerful wand and lost many friends, and I could go on and on. Now this thought process is not without merit. Quite often, good actions are not met with good reactions. Some times, doing good things just is a flat out sacrifice. If you donate to charity, it is not going to come back around or end up paying you back in some way. Unfortunately the world just doesn't work like that most of the time. But it seems like in almost all cases that I can think of, good actions are always tied to major sacrifices from the characters that make them. Literature, especially fantasy literature, has made good actions synonymous with suffering, so much so that if there isn't suffering it seems like wish fulfillment or feels saccharine. But Slime doesn't say that. It says "hey, look at this guy who just wants to help people and how well everything has worked out for him!" IMO, that is a far more encouraging message. And not only that, all the good that happens to the MC is because of his own kind actions. Sacrificing his life for someone else made him OP in the next world. Not attacking the adventurers at the cave allowed him to make friends and learn about the human world later. Forging a peace between the goblins and the dire wolves made them both stronger for it. Standing up against a corrupt politician gave him an ally in some of the best craftsmen out there. And the list goes on and on. Personally, I do think that those who act with kindness and generosity to others will end up receiving it back from the friends and allies they make along the way. If people know you are trustworthy, they will be less likely to betray you due to not wanting to lose someone who is on their side. If you are friendly, people will want to reciprocate your friendship. Being good works. And I'm glad to see an anime that is willing to say it.
"Literature, especially fantasy literature, has made good actions synonymous with suffering, so much so that if there isn't suffering it seems like wish fulfillment or feels saccharine." I guess this saccharine feeling and the fact that you don't (always) get some benefit other than your satisfaction that kind of made it wrong for me. It felt like it is just not how things work, so I lost interest.(I am an Overlord fan, so 7:24 - 7:30 made me realize why I find this a little bad). After reading your comment, I got to know that this is a novel, and yeah, this kind of things do work in certain circumstances. But you will have to agree, some of the characters don't think too far (or deeply) before making any decisions, which leads to problems for them. And this show emphasizes again and again how Rimuru is the strongest character.(I have only seen 12 episodes, no manga or anime, so please forgive me if I am wrong) Thanks to you, I would say, I will be picking up this anime again. Let's see what I can learn from this.
Rimura is able to pull off being completely moral without sacrificing short term efficiency becouse he's OP. That is defiantly wish fulfillment and saccharine. Still it's nice to see an OP protagonist forgoing "I can do whatever I want, so I can get away with being an asshole" for "there's nothing I want that requires me to be an asshole, so I might as well do good." Still I feel like there should be some more conflict in the story. The monster town should have logically had more racial tensions, rather than have everyone be instantly on board. Like the lizard-prince and the Geld junior should have their relationship developed in more than one fight scene and one partying scene. I'm totally for them becoming friends, I just think the path there was glossed over, and thus doesn't feel earned.
He's not completely idealistic, otherwise he would have tried diplomacy at all costs versus the Direwolves, rather than kill the leader and then intimidate the rest. He believes in pragmatic idealism, or rather that violence should be a last resort, but there are times where delaying that long would only lead to more misery and loss of life.
Top 5 reasons why this anime is great. 1. Tsundere Dragon. 2. Tsundere Dragon. 3. Tsundere Dragon. 4. Tsundere Dragon. 5. Tsundere Dragon. Did I also mention that there's a Tsundere Dragon? Because there's a Tsundere Dragon.

He’s super agreeable and level headed and is able to lead people because of his charisma. Also the fact that he uses his past life’s skills as a general contractor is super interesting to the character and allowed for the creation of the city in the first place.

There's another isekai that I started reading around the same time as this, "Moonlit Journey across another world". Same deal, isekai blah blah blah, but the mc is actually hated by the goddess and did not give him her blessing. As a result, he cannot speak with humans. His parents were also originally from that world (A deal with the goddess, in return their son is taken to her world) and the earth's gravity is far more dense so his body is much more powerful,. He also possesses incredibly dense mana because of his bow training (mana=power in this world, and how you increase your mana is by being near death, or in this world's case having your consciousness dissipate into the surrounding, which is how the MC concentrates). At the same time his mana creates an aura around him so he looks like a demon lord to humans. It's incredibly funny.

Ok, that sounds ballshit interesting.
Goblin slayer as an isekai lmao
Would like to see this as an anime...
This sounds fucking amazing, the other characters' reactions alone would make it worth reading
the scene where he exterminate cockroach was freaking hilarious. Prop to old maid lady.
> Befriends supremely powerful dragon in a day
> Gains a army just by giving them names
> Effortlessly replicate items that require expert craftsmanship.
> Becomes pack leader of wolves after 1 attack.
> Absorbs a powerful fire demon because he’s immune to its attacks
Why should I care about anything happening when Rimeru can become so overwhelmingly powerful so damn quickly? He has more power progression in 5 episodes than most shounen heroes do in 100. I cannot take anything happening seriously.
@@Babylauncher3000 that's literally every isekai protagonist. As Gigguk says, Slime plays the isekai tropes straight, but only focusing on the good bits in a nice package rather than the frustrating parts that plague a lot of them
What makes Rimuru stand out is he has a fun personality going to compliment his absurd power, and unlike most others he actually has an in-universe justification as to why he gains so much power: a special skill which is literally absorption of everything, rather than just "because protagonist"
And you just proved my point with both of them, both of those shows have people liking the girls of the harem over MC (Megumin, Lalatina, Rem, Emilia .etc)
Did you even watch the fucking video? Best bits being "having an adventure in another world with cool powers" rather than edgelord harem lead

Like its slowly building a civilisation or something. I just love this kind of isekai especially LN like How A Realist Hero Rebuilt The Kingdom, it's just amazing.
The thing I like about this show is:
1) Slime can act as both male and female, he can think as a 37 years old guy, which is a great source for monologues.
2) Rich color palette
3) Smooth animations, badass fight scenes ( rimuru vs ogres, gabiru vs orc general etc)
4) Voice actors, Rimuru, Shion, Gabiru, Rigurd and many others all are solid.
5) Progress of a town is already fun to watch
6) OP but humble main is the best kind for comedy. (One punch man)
7) There are both funny and sad scenes, mostly funny though (Shizu's death, Shions cooking, Gabiru vs Gobta fight, Goblins transformation, Duplication of swords, Calling Veldora baldy, lol)
8) Even if it is shounen anime, we dont get to see a highschooler punk with tiny body and ugly ugly cracked manly-wannabe voice, which is nice.
9) The anime is actually very bloody, drama without gore is unthinkable for me. In this show people appearently lose limbs, is good
10) Lots of sarcastic references from other shows, feels like slime is aware of anime logic already if not the 4th wall.
11) GABIRU!GABIRU!GABIRU!GABIRU!GABIRU!

Putting a rope around your throat
So, let's learn how to tie a noose
It's practical for every use!
All you need is a piece of rope
And to never give up hope
You make a loop and the snake goes down
But changes it's mind and turns around
And climbs back up to the top again
This is where the fun begins
You take the snake and spiral down
And at the bottom
What has he found?
The snake goes into the rabbit's hole
Then you give the top a pull
Never consider self abuse
This is how you tie a noose
There's a 100 uses for the hangman's knot
That have nothing to do with
K Y S
Never do that
You can make a stylish belt
To hold up your pants
You can tie them to your wrists
And do a hangman's dance
Well, you could tie your shoes
Or you could make bananas fly
You could stir a mixture
Hang a picture
Anything you try!
So, let's learn how to tie a noose
It's practical for every use!
All you need is a piece of rope
And to never give up hope
Never consider self abuse!
This is how you tie a noose!

Wow what a twist after joining the scouts you get a splinter and die from an infection.
@@Error-eb9gv I find this reply insulting and offensive to people with family dead to splinter infections, and I respectfully ask that you remove it, sir.
@@TheEnderLeader1 would you not rather raise attention to the very real danger of infections? It is truly an under recognized danger and surly is not given the attention it is due as a real danger in the world.
Alice in Wonderland was the original Isekai anime
But dont most Isekai not have the protag return home, also Alice in Wonderland is about a kidnapping and drugs so.
Is it isekai if she just fell down a hole? She didn't get hit by truck-kun, stabbed by criminal-kun, or summoned by a mage/princess.
@@HudaefCares Isekai is not just about killing or summoning the protag. if the protag is in another world, then it's isekai.
Same goes to Mushoku Tensei btw, I mean wtf anime studios. You should've gotten this great isekai animes first than those generic isekai animes.

Another part I like about the show is everytime when Rimuru is about to do a big decision he will invite all important subordinates, team leaders and important members for the new country to join the meeting. He respects the opinion of all the race. And I like that every characters are useful.
I mean he's a fully functional human adult
@@tlf. thats worth pointing out and praising considering that usually the MCs are empty-headed weeb gamer teens and shut-in NEETS
"Literature, especially fantasy literature, has made good actions synonymous with suffering, so much so that if there isn't suffering it seems like wish fulfillment or feels saccharine."
I guess this saccharine feeling and the fact that you don't (always) get some benefit other than your satisfaction that kind of made it wrong for me.
And this show emphasizes again and again how Rimuru is the strongest character.(I have only seen 12 episodes, no manga or anime, so please forgive me if I am wrong)
Thanks to you, I would say, I will be picking up this anime again. Let's see what I can learn from this.
Why is everyone’s comment so long except for Pedro Abreu
It’s undertale in anime.
Reading this comment and the replies at this hour is making me sleepy. Good night. You officialy made me go to bed by reading a never ending comment
Gustav Kuriga ...i agree.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I started watching it and didn’t know what an isekai was and now love it and know (a bit more ig) about isekais
One aspect I liked about the show was that even though he has awesome powers the one skill he uses the most are people skills. He’s super agreeable and level headed and is able to lead people because of his charisma. Also the fact that he uses his past life’s skills as a general contractor is super interesting to the character and allowed for the creation of the city in the first place.
a slime as a main character has a lot of "fan art" potential.

Have read this one. A bit behind on the translations but thanks for reminding me of the title. Bitch goddess needs a reality slap asap
