Traxxas most definitely still makes the XL-5 models, they just haven't released them to the public yet. They are getting all of the new upgrades (hubs, casters, axles, links, clipless body etc.) Give it some time.
I put an 86T pinion & 22T pinion in my BL-2S, it's an absolute beast now, I put 4 ounce of Lead self adhesive tire balancers, but it will still ride a wheeling forever. It will wheelie when driving half throttle than give it a punch, totally different animal now, the speed is incredible. Stock gearing is anemic. I run a 7000 mah Zeee I had to ad a Gyro for speed runs
Mines coming tomorrow from UPS straight from traxxas. 🤩 My hobbytown has dragged their feet getting these and I couldn’t wait. I love the old school style 2wd stadium truck platform. And for me, 35mph, the way I drive, is plenty fast enough. I’ve had all kinds of traxxas over the years. Jato 3.3, Revo 3.3, slash 4x4 bl-2s, XRT, nitro sport and nitro stampede from 1997! But this will be my first rustler. I’m also looking really hard at the stampede 4x4 VXL brushless. On 3s that thing really moves! Your video on that stampede has convinced me I may need one 😂😂
@@JayTeeRC yes sir, I didn’t realize they delivered on Saturday either. But it’s scheduled for delivery between 10:15am-2:15pm my time. 😁 And last update said, it’s “loaded on the delivery truck” 🚚🙌🏼🤩
I agree, I got a few of them like 15 years ago and they were like $400 a piece. Vxl but I mostly use 2s anyway because of how many batteries that I need. Still got them all still running
No brainer I’d buy the 2s 4x4 version run it till the motor dies & then put 3s electronics of your choice in can’t go wrong with that. I have the 4x4 VXL version with a Max 10 in it & it’s a blast to take out & has been solid I just broke a front lower arm pin but that’s it. But to be honest the Rustler in any version is awesome.
Something about a 2wd Stadium truck ( or MT ) that is just so much fun to drive. btw ever thought about going to the spot and cleaning it up a bit...removing some of the big bricks or at least chucking them to the side. Could prob make yourself a little rock crawling pile haha.
I've got less than $250 in my Gorgon and it's got a 100a 3s capable esc and 4000kv brushless motor. It's insane on 3s but capable of handling it. The Gorgon is the best 2wd truck I've driven and it jumps and lands great.
Strange that the box says 45 because the website says 40. Even still, only doing 35 seems a bit odd. I'm sure it'll do that if you gear it up, but that should be with an asterisk or something. Even still, Rusty has a special place in my heart because it was my first hobby grade rc. I also appreciate that they've given it an update with the magnum transmission and heavy duty parts. Seems like a good deal for $250.
I bought a xl5 rustler in 2013 and put a vxl motor and esc bc i needed more umph and i got around 45mph top speed on 2s lipo. Thinking about getting this bc my rustler xl5 to vxl conversion caught fire and im thinking about gettin this
I got the Rustler 4x4 bl 2s. I put a 15t pinion to get things going, but I had to put the aluminum Traxxas motor mount so that the motor stops shifting during jumps. Not much air control on 2s. Backflips are a no go. I haven't been able to achieve one. I put a clip on fan on the ESC from the 3s VXL one. Temps are OK, but now I only get 10 minutes run time with the 3000mah Traxxas battery that was included in the purchase. It's faster though. 27 mph off road and 30 mph on road. The 10 minute run time was on pavement non stop. The motor got to 145F on a very hot day. I already have other upgrades for it coming once things break or burn up 👍. My son and a friend beat it up and nothing broke on it, so the durability is there 👍. The lipo and charger deal is also at your LHS 👍
That box is funny. There's not a 2s setup that can run 45 MPH on the planet. Do they make 45 tooth pinions now? That might do it. It'd also be a ball of fire the instant one pulls the trigger from the ESC bursting. I thought that 35 was pretty good. I'm also guessing that ESC, without any sort of fan and a body which naturally traps all the air inside there was relatively warm too after those runs. I like that Traxxas is upgrading their base lineup with this system & better, beefier parts. But if they're upgrading them though, I do wish however would have included the magnum transmission.
Lol. I just rebuilt a Rustler and put a Spektum system in it. Now Traxxas made their 2wd line brushless? I'm hurt. Kidding, but I wonder if the heavy duty parts would fit on mine.
Nice video thanks 🙏 for sharing this.I want to buy one I have alle the ESC And motor Valeneo 3s.So need A chassi, looking for one hope I have one in my Collection.Love to drive 2wd cars loot's of fun and smile 😁 I have one 2wd the rest of my Collection is 4wd So keep it up my fellow Rc friend greeting from Norway 😊
I think Traxxas made a HUGE mistake changing that Stampede body to basically a Hoss body 2.0. How STUPID of a mistake! Nobody who's been around since Traxxas first came out will ever see that new body as a Stampede. That is NOT the Stampede I had in the 90s!! BRING BACK THE STAMPEDE TRAXXAS!!😢😢
What's good to see people getting started in RC.
Traxxas most definitely still makes the XL-5 models, they just haven't released them to the public yet. They are getting all of the new upgrades (hubs, casters, axles, links, clipless body etc.) Give it some time.
They need to ditch the xl5 motor and esc all together.

this entire line is fire I'm buying the stampede maybe the slash, so glad 2 wheel drive is still available!!!
I bought my rustler xl5 in December 2023 and upgraded from there. I now basically have a vxl 2wd.
nice!
Considering the upgrades, $250 is a good price for the new rustler Bl2s.

gorgon is cool, no doubt about it. so great to see 2w drive coming back
It’s from horizon 🤢

Yeah I noticed that on the website too. And I still think it's a good deal for 250. Because you also get the charger and Lipo with it too
I love the slow motion parts with the trail of dust behind!!!

Maybe a 4tec with speed gears could?
The calculated theoretical speed of a 2wd Rustler on 2s with a 76t spur and a 23t pinion riding Traxxas Talons with a 4000kv motor is over 50mph
I think that I saw an Arrma limitless do 70 mph on 2s one time
Yea I have an xl5 that I put a vxl in and I sense a need to switch to the magnum 272r
I’d definitely like to see the stampede next!
Great review of an awesome classic!!!
tks
Cool I wish I had waited and gotten this one and I live in ga too sick
Nice
Stampede!!!!!
😊
For some reason after only a week of use I think my esc took a crap. It blinks green and is unresponsive. Not trying to hate just want a solution.
How come it’s with the old body ? Traxxas at least could have refreshed the old fashioned body design
I'd do Rustler and Bigfoot
Lol. I just rebuilt a Rustler and put a Spektum system in it. Now Traxxas made their 2wd line brushless? I'm hurt. Kidding, but I wonder if the heavy duty parts would fit on mine.
yes
@@JayTeeRC That'll be my next upgrade, sweet! Thx!
Good to hear that
Spektrum ?? 😂😂😂

Disheartening @ 35mph. since box says 45. I'll wait to see w/ Traxxas batt. But sad ...
Don't forget about the SRT. I've had one since 97. Love the SRT.
oh yea! 4got bout that one

yes!!!!
The old stampede body is so old fashioned. Traxxas did very well to make it more 2024 looking 👍👍
