    The insane part is that when they were filming this, they created the set you see and even made actual real tempered glass too. The platform was 1.5 meters high which is roughly around 5 feet. The director/writer said that a mere 1 meter around 3 feet tends to make people in real life feel fear and this was 1.5 meters/5 feet. So the actors fear and nervousness and the way their bodies were tense was real and not acting at all. They also had to literally jump from glass to glass. However, falling through, they removed the glass and the person jumped onto air and fell onto a platform directly below to catch them so they wouldn't get hurt. Insane that they actually did those things though! They said a lot of actors were nervous and afraid and were sweating so much.

      @@RonnieG Yeah a lot of people pointed that out and I'm wondering what would have happened if any of them had tried to do so. The point of the game was to jump onto one of the panes of glass. So if someone tried to walk on the solid beams, I wonder if they would have gotten shot. Or the Front Man would have told them to take a step back and go on a glass panel. To be honest, I think I would have tried to do so and then waited to see if it was allowed. Or told someone ahead of me to try it out haha.

    2:10 Good for you in being familiar with the meaning of "hyung," because you got to experience nuance that was unintentionally reserved for Korean viewers. That was such a brilliantly crafted tragic scene. It was bad enough that Ali realized something was wrong and finally decided to check his pouch. That should've been enough for him to conclude what happened. But the director had him gaze upon the trail of stones leading to shirt number 218 so that the last thing Ali saw was the fingerprints of every step of the betrayal. It wasn't on a whim. It was calculated and meticulously crafted. And it wasn't just that he was betrayed by his hyung. He was betrayed by someone he was so honored to able to call "hyung," (i.e., someone he looked up to whom he thought now saw him as a kid brother). So on second thought, maybe it wasn't "good for you." Because that meant a tragic scene hit even harder for you.

    THANK YOU, for continuing to watch the series. After seeing episode 6 basically destroy you, I was worried you wouldn't want to continue.
    How was it filmed: Word is that they filmed it using "sugar glass" which is relatively "safe" because it will not cut you like real glass will but looks like real glass on film. While it "can" cut, it is also EXTREMELY brittle and more likely to "nick you" (Like a pin-prick) than actually "cut/slash you" (like real glass). Then you film it 5-10 feet off the floor so that the "drop" is safe with cushions on the ground to soften the fall, but the "drop" still looks "real" due to gravity and suddenly being "suspended in air". After that, it is simply a matter of using different camera angles and editing to make it appear to be "dangerous" to the actors/stunt-person involved, but overall "low-risk/safe" on a physical level.
    However, the actors ADMITTED to being scared out of their minds because even knowing HOW it was done, they had no real idea on which was the 'breaking glass' and which was the 'safety glass/plastic' to step on until filming actually started to take place. Those in the rear had more "warning" of the correct path than those in the front, but those in the rear also had NO CLUE on which of the last few steps were 'real or not' until just before filming the transition to that step.

    Here is the tip on how to survive the glass steps. When they tell you take off your shoes, you should take off your jacket and tie a knot at the bottom and stuff your shoes and other people’s shoes inside the jacket to create a makeshift club. After you done that, you use it to beat the glass to determine which one is safe and which is dangerous.

      I think without those shoes, you can sit in the edge, try to several time kick the glass step in front of you, before you decide step into it. Ensure it's not fragile. If it's broken, it means you must jump into the other diagonal side step. The fragile glass will broken just only by one hit. In the real life, even it can be broken just by throwing a little stone into the edge of glass. I know it because the glass in my room's window broken after a someone accidentaly throw a little stone. 😂🤣

    We always thought it wasn't fair for the Front Man to adjust the light settings but actually what the Front Man did was actually fair. His whole motto is that everyone has an equal chance and is on equal ground. The glass maker had an unfair advantage that would put him ahead of everyone else. If he was selfish he could have waited until the time was almost up and then crossed himself safely, which would make the rest behind him fail. The whole point of the game was to make a choice and go on one of the panels of glass, it's a 50/50 chance. But with the glass maker it became a 100 percent chance. So that was unfair to the others.

      ahhh as much as I don’t want to admit that ,you are right it was fair😭😭😭

    • @blastermaster5009
      @blastermaster5009 2 года назад +5

      But that's not true though, because they allow people to use the physical advantages they were born with, multiple times in the game. Was the Tug of War "fair and equal"? That's not equality, that's just choosing people who were born with an advantage over people who had to work to gain an advantage.

    • @kiramakishima7836
      @kiramakishima7836 2 года назад +3

      @@blastermaster5009 No because if you think about it, NO ONE was supposed to know what type of game they were going to play. So it was fair for everyone, they just said get into teams of 10. The players picked their teams not knowing what the game would be. So everything was fair.
      The only reason the gangster/snake tattoo guy had a stacked team was because they were cheating since they knew ahead of time what the game was going to be. The only reason the gangster/snake tattoo guy's team was allowed to stack their team like that was because the Front Man didn't know they were cheating at the time.
      So technically, Tug of War game was fair. It was up to the players to choose 10 team members without knowing what the game was going to be. To all their knowledge it could have been a girl's game where girls had the advantage. Or it might have been a game where you need an equal amount of girls and guys. You're only thinking it's not fair because you know ahead of time what the game was going to be. And you forget that the snake tattoo guy wasn't supposed to know ahead of time.
      If the snake tattoo guy hadn't known, he'd have picked some women and non-physical strength players too just in case it was a woman's game.
      All the games were set up to be fair and equal. What the players do after the games start has nothing to do with the games being fair or not. Glass Stepping Stones game was fair to start out because the point of the game was everyone has a 50/50 chance. The reason why they dimmed the lights was because the glass maker had an unfair advantage and wasn't playing the game right. He's not supposed to use his knowledge to get the right glass, he's supposed to have a 50/50 shot just like all the others.
      Yes what the snake tattoo guy did was unfair. But the game wasn't unfair, what was unfair was how the snake tattoo guy found out what the game was beforehand. Which gave him an unfair advantage. But the actual game was indeed fair, since no one knew what the game was going to be and were given the choice to pick their team, not knowing what it would be.

    • @blastermaster5009
      @blastermaster5009 2 года назад +3

      @@kiramakishima7836 Except if the "snake tattoo guy" made it to the end and was up against someone weaker (like anyone else), then your justification still goes right out the window.
      Not to mention, the guards at one point explicitly say that they gave people less food to cause fighting and weed out "the weak" (i.e. the people born with less physical advantages). So you're just wrong.
      The show is critiquing capitalism. The games themselves are allegories for capitalism. The people running the game - the Frontman and pink guards (the state and the military) claim the game is "fair and equal" (i.e. what capitalism claims to be). Except neither the Squid Game or capitalism are actually "fair and equal".
      Much like how Squid Game gives a leg-up to players who were born with a physical advantage (or intellectual advantage - i.e. Sang-woo vs Ali), capitalism gives a leg-up to people who are born into wealthy families and can afford decent educations.
      Taking away the glass-maker's advantage that he spent 30 years to refine while still allowing other people to use the advantages they were born with is literally the opposite of "fair and equal".

    • @kiramakishima7836
      @kiramakishima7836 2 года назад

      @@blastermaster5009 The night killing one I still can't tell if it was a 'game' or if it was just random. That's the only one that I didn't really get. Because the Front Man said, "Stop the game." But at the same time, all the other games they literally introduced them as being the "1st game, 2nd game etc... and that night was not stated to be a 'game', so I don't know if that was a game or not. Or if it was just a mistranslation. Because if it wasn't a 'game' then the games are still fair. As the night killing had nothing to do with the games. If it WAS a game then I agree with you. That one wasn't fair at all and literally had no point, I wouldn't consider it to be a game at all since there were no rules and no stating that it was a game in the first place, whereas all the other games had been stated beforehand.
      If the snake tattoo guy made it to the end and fought in the last game, it would still be a fair game. I never said that the PEOPLE would fight fair or were equal, I said the GAMES were set up to start out fair.
      You are still talking about how the PEOPLE had unfair advantages with intellectual or physical strength. That is not what I am talking about. I never said the people were set up to be fair and equal, some people like you said have intellectual and physical advantages. I said the GAMES were set up at first to be fair and equal.
      Glass maker was not playing by the rules of the game. Everyone else was. The game's rules specifically stated that you have to choose a panel and jump onto it. You have a 50/50 chance. Since he was using prior knowledge it wasn't really fair to the others who were following the rules. But I agree that they could have just let him use his knowledge. I think this one you can look at it either way, it being fair and also it being unfair.

    Actually, changing the lights WAS fair. It provided the OTHER PLAYERS a balanced playing field. The man who used to be a glass-worker had far more experience, meaning he also had an "unfair advantage" over the other players in being able to figure out which panel of glass was tempered and which one wasn't. Remember, the concept was that ALL the players were to be considered "equal" while playing the games. So if someone had an advantage, that advantage had to be removed so that the others would be "even once more".
    Yeah, it STINKS while watching it, and you absolutely HATE the people for changing the lights like that just because someone "might" figure it out. But at the same time, taking into account everything that has been said/done by the "host" to that point, you also can see how he is making sure that nobody has an "unfair advantage over anyone else".

      And yeah, you are right overall. The glass worker's life experience should NOT have been punished by changing the lighting simply due to having a 'better understanding of glass', to US the audience. To the "Host" and the people conducting the games, it WAS seen as an 'unfair advantage' that had to be removed to make it 'fair for the others'.
      Personally, I do NOT like it, and see it as being cruel to the players when they didn't NEED to be cruel to them. But from a story-telling point, and character development point, I understand WHY it was done.

    • @herrzimm
      @herrzimm 2 года назад

      @@bigfudge2031 - During the prior games? No, not really. I mean for Green Light, speed and muscle control at his age wasn't as easy as it would be for others. For the "umbrella' game, starting shape had more to do with that one. For tug-of-war, there was no telling how the 10-member TEAM would do, and he was seen as the weakest member of that team DESPITE the knowledge. And as far as the marbles game was concerned? Well, it wasn't how marbles are supposed to be played, but a 'guessing game' between two people, so ALL experience is thrown out the window when you have to 'guess'.
      So, up to this point, any 'advantage' the old man might have had due to his age were countered by other factors involved in those individual games. Also, being able to 'advance' in the game wasn't placed entirely upon HIS personal experience the way that it was placed upon the glass worker's experience.
      As I said in reply to Just Gaming.... I do NOT like the fact that they changed the lighting. But from story-telling and character development points, I understand WHY they changed the lights.

    Why didn't the players just walk in the middle and keep their feet on the inner bars? The distance was small between them and it wouldn't put pressure on any of the glass.

    • @scorp77snake
      @scorp77snake 2 года назад +2

      The rules that they are told is to only step on the glass tiles so i would assume it would be considered cheating and they'd be shot , maybe they should have had a player try to show if this is the case or not.

    I would have chosen 11, and I would have used the rails supporting the glass. I suspect they would have shot me if I crawled across the rails all the way, so I would have tied the shoes together and tossed the "chain" of shoes on alternate panes until one broke, while kneeling on the rails.
