It was incredible to see the Twitch notification and catch almost the entire stream. Reminded me of how much I missed Joe's streams and how many afternoons I used to spend watching him play 😭
I skip to about 1:12:00 (nothing wrong with the video, I only watch bits and pieces of things when I'm tight on time) and one of the first things I hear is Joe saying "Pill me, freeze me" and of course the legendary "You piece", truly a man of distinction
It feels sorta weird how emotionally invested I am in Joe. hes back to streaming, at least temporarily, and im really happy he could make the elden ring video.
It’s not bad to be thoughtful of others and hope for their well being but the fact of the matter is neither of you know each other personally. Social media and the sort is a breeding ground for unhealthy habits and attachments.
Glad to hear from you again, Joe. Remember you can use RTX Voice to remove background noise, including kid noise! Linus had a video where RTX Voice totally cut his kids out completely.
I'm like an hour and some minutes in, at the 'leveling/scaling' discussion - I wonder if there's something big open world action RPG-type games could learn from the original The World Ends With You and its pseudo-dynamic leveling system, where progressing through the game and fighting enemies increased your max level, but you could go into the menu to de-level yourself in exchange for increased item drop rate at any time. Within the confines of TWEWY it didn't change _that_ much, because most of your power came from equipment and your level was a flat, additive hp boost, but I wonder how much it would change Elden Ring, be it for better or worse, if you had some diegetic way to reduce your damage output and hp on a percentage basis in exchange for a commensurate increase in drop or rune acquisition rate, perhaps combined with a system within the game that would compare your active weapon's or spells' DPS to a 'best experience' baseline and suggest how much of a penalty you should give yourself in specific zones or dungeons. A lot more effort than just giving you a suggested level bracket, but just from looking at ER from the outside I've gotten the distinct impression that how you _distribute_ your levels and especially how much you upgrade your weapons makes a much bigger difference than the actual levels themselves.
I am really glad I'm not the only person who thought of TWEWY during that part of the video. It's such an underappreciated aspect of the game, and I'm shocked more devs haven't used it for themselves.
Never played TWEWY but a friend recc'd it a long time ago. Sounds like a brilliant system that would further encourage free exploration and preserve intensity in boss encounters. Probably a proprietary mechanic.
Missed the stream, watched the vod, now it's here! Good stuff good stuff, rock and stone. Good luck with the Witcher 3 vid, looking forward to the Crosscode vid (doing my fifth playthrough right now, NG+ adds so much replayability) I was watching the Elden Ring vid and noticed just how goddamn good it looks. Even more incentivized to try it now, and I've never played a Souls game.
I dont have time to watch the whole video, when does he talk about crosscode? Its easily my favorite game of all time and I have been eager for him to talk about ever since he mentioned it ages ago.
@GiRayne Never played any of those. Pretty much all of those I'm planning to play in the future, though. Watching the video is the first time I've really noticed how visually good ER looks I guess all of them appeal the same to me, _maybe_ ER does a bit more because of how large the open world is. My experience with the genre is completing most of Hollow Knight (missing pantheon binding clears, PoH, hall of gods clears) so I think if I played them, I'd enjoy them quite a bit.
thanks for that comment about hyper-effiency mindset. literally thought that was just a 'normal' way to think until now. it helps explain why there are 200 cans on my desk and why i feel like i can only clean it when i can make it from horrid to spotless
We have missed you Joe! Hope you can find time to stream again in the next twenty years, we will be waiting with the Titanic theme playing in the background
You spoke about the ambient music in elden ring, which I had to switch off because of reasons you mention 1:10:40~. I tried to put my finger on what it is exactly that made the music so grating; I agree that there is a hum, or a buzz that the ambient music lets linger and hang which is purposefully oppressive and disharmonious but it really rubbed me wrong. It might suit some dark dungeon where it makes sense for you to be constantly uncomfortable but like, Limgrave has this slow distant slightly-melancholic horn, suiting the vast open landscape but is almost inaudible over the the strings which sound like a parody of horror movie violins, chittering away. And it makes no sense, Limgrave isn't uncanny in that way. There shouldn't be any reason for us to be constantly on edge. It doesn't build towards a crescendo it just hangs endlessly giving no reprieve or release. I make it sound worse than it is but only because the more I think about it, the more baffling it is.
I don't think I agree with that analysis, even if I can see the strings becoming grating. Caelid is right over the horizon, Siofra lies in wait below, and Stormveil looms on the cliff ahead. Even with the sense of majesty that comes from opening that door, in classic Fromsoft fashion even the starting area isn't free of danger. The strings keeping you on edge is purposeful, and I think the track is better for it. Again though, if the droning bothers you that's totally understandable.
Ambient music in From's games is really annoying. It's used sparingly in the Soulsborne series and I think that the silence adds a lot to the atmosphere during exploration. I don't need to hear suspenseful strings to know that Caelid is a dangerous place, nor to I need to hear action music to know that Hirata Estate is under siege. Just let the environments speak for themselves, goddammit.
Funny since it's one of the rare game where I never ended up putting my own background music for me. The only one I found slightly annoying was the Caelid one pushing the horror aspect a bit too much when the visual already do the job. I was especially impressed by the way the Liurnia theme evoqued a feeling of magical place somehow with just instrument, pretty well done
I missed this stream cause I hadnt played elden ring but finally listening to it and wanted to say even if you never see this, your single funniest joke for me in all of your content is in your diablo 3 video, i think about it ALL THE TIME. Its when you land the delivery on the blacksmiths dead wife, its brilliant. I also think that video is pretty good, same for the hearthstone one, considering how early they are. Anyway, good to hear your voice again dragon dad :)
Hey Joseph! First of all, I love your content it has been great seeing in-depth reviews of games that I find are way too frequently glazed over in 20 mins. I would really love the cluster of games idea you presented around the 36-minute mark, only instead of doing a group of games in the same genre, you do a 3 part video going over the shorter games that you love. You could possibly give recommendations about games that got you interested in a genre while giving a critique of what you enjoyed about them. I don't know I'm just rambling now, keep up the good work I eagerly await your next video!
@GiRayne That's the part of his videos I've always enjoyed the most as well, the way he relates them to his own life and experiences. I always think of the Postal video where he talks about how when he was younger he was the exact sort of person those games were designed for and how his perspective on them changed as he got older. I also like how much of his critiques are focused more on how the games relates to broader features of society and culture, such as his KOTOR reviews relating the games and their competing takes on Star Wars to Joseph Campbell's very questionable theories on storytelling that Lucas was inspired by. His videos have kind of ruined criticism that focuses solely on gameplay mechanics for me, though that may be more reflective or what aspects of games I care about most.
@@KrausHyperOpera you might just like New Games Journalism, then. To see it at its extreme and best, look up Action Button Reviews Tokimeki Memorial. Especially if you've never heard of Tokimeki Memorial.

@@leftovernoise I watched his Tokimeki Memorial review over the course of one week and it literally changed not only the way I think about games, but also about game reviews and discourse. Considering how important video games are to me, it isn't hyperbole for me to say that one Action Button video actually changed who I am. The only other video of his I've seen is his Cyberpunk video, which is arranged in a way I think Joseph should look at and consider doing. I haven't seen his other videos really, because I really don't have the time anymore to dedicate to them, as much as I might like them.
This was great to watch even though I missed the stream, hopefully I can catch a stream some time! Love to see that you are doing better after the Elden Ring video.
Really looking forward to the Outer Wilds DLC stream. I still can't believe how much it is like the base game even though it is so different, and that it's just as good as the base game (if not better, depending on taste). It really solidified Moebius Digital in my mind as the studio that will make my new favorite games for a long time to come.
Can't believe I didn't know one of my favorite games of all time (I can't say that very often) has a dlc! Thanks for leaving this comment cause I might've never known. Or at least not until the vod for that eventual stream gets posted.
Mate it's so good to have you back and it sounds like you're doing good, or at least I hope so. I would love for you to do looser content where you worry less about having everything perfect and talk about stuff you care about. I enjoyed your Witcher videos but not at the cost of you enjoying what you do or burning yourself out.
Thanks for mentioning The Amazing Devil, Joe! I'm really digging this band quite a bit, considering how much time I spent with folk music over the pandemic.
Skip Bly Manor. We seem to have very similar opinions on what makes a good narrative, and Bly Manor can retroactively hurt Hill House. It's just a worse retread of Hill House, and somehow flubs the ending even worse than its predecessor. Anyways, glad to have you back Joe. Also, try doing high intensity work outs. Even just 5 minutes every other day can make a huge difference if you're super pressed for time (which it really seems like you are). It really helped my sleep, and depression by a very noticeable margin.
43:03 -> Agreed. Not. Even. Close. And this is coming from a guy who, before playing the game, rolled his eyes when the devs thanked Marx and Engels at the game awards xD Was pleasantly surprised with how they handled the four political aspirations you can pursue in the game and how well written it all is, tied with S-tier worldbuilding and characters.
someone asked around33 minutes what video brought people to the channel, i found you via an internet historian shoutout in his fallout 76 video he mentioned your fallout 76 glitch video and i found your channel via that . saw your god of war video and subbed
Do you take clips from OBS directly into premiere? Because if so - that might be a reason playback is so shitty for you. The really compressed mp4 files OBS turns out aren't good for editing and it's wroth it to convert them to DNxHD before you start editing. The files are bigger (like, way bigger) and the conversion takes a while, but the editing is so much smoother. You should try it out at least and see if it's worth it on the time you save during the editing itself.
@@AlexDoomin The advice still applies. I never used shadowplay but I'd be surprised if they don't use similar compression, which is the core of the problem with shitty playback.
yeah. i liked the part where he said it was a masterpiece, but he wasn't excited for the next one. it's kinda like marika and radagon, two opposing forces somehow intrinsically melded together to the point where it's one being.
Joe, I like the same sort of build-up in music. You should check out Far Caspian - Come Down And Waste With Me, Family Crest - Beneath The Brine, and The Cat Empire - The Chariot. I rarely find songs that satisfy me that way so maybe you'll like these too.

I would LOVE to see you play Dustforce if you loved the flow state from air combo stuff about Celeste and Hollow Knight. Music made by the same composer as Tunic too
Hey Joe, I assume you'll never see this comment but I'm a long time fan and on the topic of what videos people want - personally, I wouldn't say I just want content, there are videos I'm way more excited about than others. The number one thing I want is videos analyzing games I've played and like a lot, which of course is subjective to me, and the number one thing after that is analysis of popular games that have a level of cultural relevance even if I haven't played them - so stuff like The Last of Us, Fallout 4, No Man's Sky, etc. I'm still super disappointed that the poll from years ago ended up picking Witcher over Mass Effect for that reason, since personally I like Mass Effect way more, but Witcher still has enough general relevance that I'm still sort of invested and it has been interesting to watch you analyze. I'm probably the least interested in videos on indie games I haven't heard of, but I still watch some of them.
I LOVED Dark, id love to just hear you ramble about it... me and my mom watched it together We watched it breifly in english then in german to compare and finished the show in german, it was a lot of fun when we were theorizing while waiting for the next season haha, or briefly between eps anyways, fun to remember those moments, even if you never talk about it
joe says very unlikely to be a sekiro video because he said everything he wanted to in the elden ring video. but he never criticized sekiro, and i'd love to hear it. or his thoughts on the world and exploratory stuff.
EDIT: Thanks for trying tunic, sorry you're not getting on with it (agreed the combat is iffy) but definitely dig deep, there's a tonne of secrets in it, look carefully for the golden path is all around! Hey Joe, I know you probably get a million game recommendations but I just wanted to throw Tunic into the mix, it's got an incredible depth of puzzles and adventure to it, pretty unlike anything else I've played except Fez way back when, lots of "that was there the WHOLE TIME?!" moments and deep discovery like Outer Wilds. Not at all expecting you to play it given how busy you are but just wanted to put it out there!
it's actually baffling that he wouldn't connect with it - not really sure the combat is iffy, I just think it has a camera problem like souls generally do, just a different kind.
Love the streams so I would be sad (but understanding) if they had to go away. Been watching some playthrough VODs recently that I never finished the first time around like Disco Elysium and Persona 4. I think the Elden Ring video was great, and I was super impressed with how fast it got out.

Steins gate sucks? Time to dismiss any opinion he has on anything else ever. I stopped watching him when he said knack was nad
It feels sorta weird how emotionally invested I am in Joe. hes back to streaming, at least temporarily, and im really happy he could make the elden ring video.
you, and many others, have an unhealthy parasocial relationship with him.
It feels weird because parasocial relatio ships aren't really healthy.
It’s not bad to be thoughtful of others and hope for their well being but the fact of the matter is neither of you know each other personally. Social media and the sort is a breeding ground for unhealthy habits and attachments.
I like the part from 1:45:20 to 1:47:21 where Joe says complete and utter nonsense for 2 minutes
Gonna write a strongly worded email to the ceo of twitch for not giving me a notification for the stream
Yeah it’s really weird I didn’t get a notification
Have you checked if notifications are still on, Twitch sometimes turns of notifications to rarely watched streams
Joe there's so much adoration for you from so many people. Give us what you can, don't worry about momentum
Glad to hear from you again, Joe. Remember you can use RTX Voice to remove background noise, including kid noise! Linus had a video where RTX Voice totally cut his kids out completely.
OMG, is the kid all right? O.o
Missed you loads Joe! Glad you're back.
I hope the Outer Wilds DLC VOD gets posted on this Channel too!
Oh fuck is that still on twitch? I would absolutely love to see thet
@@leftovernoise Doesn't look like it, sadly. I'd really like to see it too

Multiple times during my first ER PL where I was desperate to be taken down 10 or so levels
God that laugh, I never realized how much i missed it until earing it again
The NL references are off charts, love it you piece
Again proving NL is your favourite streamer's favourite streamer
Happy to hear from Joe. Take as much time as you need, can't rush your projects.
Missed the stream, watched the vod, now it's here! Good stuff good stuff, rock and stone.
Good luck with the Witcher 3 vid, looking forward to the Crosscode vid (doing my fifth playthrough right now, NG+ adds so much replayability)
I was watching the Elden Ring vid and noticed just how goddamn good it looks. Even more incentivized to try it now, and I've never played a Souls game.
I dont have time to watch the whole video, when does he talk about crosscode? Its easily my favorite game of all time and I have been eager for him to talk about ever since he mentioned it ages ago.
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE?!
@GiRayne Never played any of those. Pretty much all of those I'm planning to play in the future, though. Watching the video is the first time I've really noticed how visually good ER looks
I guess all of them appeal the same to me, _maybe_ ER does a bit more because of how large the open world is. My experience with the genre is completing most of Hollow Knight (missing pantheon binding clears, PoH, hall of gods clears) so I think if I played them, I'd enjoy them quite a bit.
@@MHMega 18:23-18:34, just a mention by name, but the fact it was off the top of his head as one of his favourites gets me hyped

45:39 Would really love to see you tackle 13 Sentinels! My favourite Sci-Fi story in any medium by a wide margin.
he just did and it was hilarious
i love hearing about how different people create the things they make. thank you for putting these up!
Damned, I have missed that squeaky chair! I SO hope that you'll be back on stream "4 real" at some point
He was talking about the new PC and the new mic and then I heard the chair creak and all was right in the world :')
"I am accused of being a contrarian, but I'm NOT!"
Joseph Anderson, April 2022.
So good to hear you again, looking forward to the Witcher 4 critique.
You feel seen, cos I feel the exact same way to that blacksmith joke
Glad to have you back, homie. Best to Lily and the kiddos.
I was watching the vod for papers, please WHILE THIS WAS BEING STREAMED DAMNIT
Welcome back, Joseph.
Just wanted to say that Noah-Caldwell-Gerveis' videos have vastly improved on their technical/presentation side. You should give him another chance.
Would like to second this, like Joe I also couldn't manage them a few years ago, but the more recent videos are very watchable.
@@glowerworm The first time I attempted an action button review I absolutely hated it. couldn't finish it. I didn't like the cut of his jib. but then a few months later I tried again and now I've watched/listened to all of them many times and back his Patreon. it grew on me like a beautiful fungus
So happy to see a notification from you again lol
This was great to watch even though I missed the stream, hopefully I can catch a stream some time! Love to see that you are doing better after the Elden Ring video.

Can't watch your elden ring vid yet due to spoilers, but I'll happily listen to you for 4 hours. Keep up the good work, and take the time you need!
Thrilled to hear you’re interested in talking about games you love.
@@jasonpyre8572 holy shit it’s so good
Mate it's so good to have you back and it sounds like you're doing good, or at least I hope so. I would love for you to do looser content where you worry less about having everything perfect and talk about stuff you care about. I enjoyed your Witcher videos but not at the cost of you enjoying what you do or burning yourself out.
Nothing wrong with making short videos sometimes if you feel like it. Not everything needs to be epic.
Glad to see you posting and glade that you are happy to be posting.
Thanks for mentioning The Amazing Devil, Joe! I'm really digging this band quite a bit, considering how much time I spent with folk music over the pandemic.
I always thought that Joe took a break from streaming because he was expelled from twitch. Imagine being expelled twice! I’m glad that he’s back :)
Great to have you back joe
Skip Bly Manor. We seem to have very similar opinions on what makes a good narrative, and Bly Manor can retroactively hurt Hill House. It's just a worse retread of Hill House, and somehow flubs the ending even worse than its predecessor.
Anyways, glad to have you back Joe. Also, try doing high intensity work outs. Even just 5 minutes every other day can make a huge difference if you're super pressed for time (which it really seems like you are). It really helped my sleep, and depression by a very noticeable margin.
43:03 -> Agreed.
Not. Even. Close.
And this is coming from a guy who, before playing the game, rolled his eyes when the devs thanked Marx and Engels at the game awards xD
Was pleasantly surprised with how they handled the four political aspirations you can pursue in the game and how well written it all is, tied with S-tier worldbuilding and characters.

Definitely think it’s a good idea for you to do a series of positive videos with lighter criticism.
I think I like those videos better. His Return of The Obra Dinn video got me to play a game I never would have played otherwise and I loved it.
The one day I decide to turn off twitch notifications, he decides to stream out of nowhere. And that too a q&a.
can't wait for the outer wilds dlc playthrough
“I get accused of being a contrarian, but I’m not!”
Tbh premiere is also a shitshow and has been for years. I prefer DaVinci resolve
He said on the discord that he had used nvidia shadowplay to record clips for elden ring video, apparently because he does'nt trust obs much
@@AlexDoomin The advice still applies. I never used shadowplay but I'd be surprised if they don't use similar compression, which is the core of the problem with shitty playback.
@@mizel101 Oh, that didn't come to my mind, ur probably right.

Missed ya Joe
Omg is this Joseph Anderson from the Joseph Anderson Channel Two RUclips channel?
Welcome back Mr. Joseph
The Elden Ring video is probably your best yet.
yeah. i liked the part where he said it was a masterpiece, but he wasn't excited for the next one. it's kinda like marika and radagon, two opposing forces somehow intrinsically melded together to the point where it's one being.
Joe, I like the same sort of build-up in music. You should check out Far Caspian - Come Down And Waste With Me, Family Crest - Beneath The Brine, and The Cat Empire - The Chariot.
I rarely find songs that satisfy me that way so maybe you'll like these too.
Happy to see you back Joe!

Hi Joseph, i literally listen to every one of your vids, stop worrying about whats on screen. thanks!
HOLY SHIT YOU WANT TO MAKE A CROSSCODE VIDEO?!?! Oh my GOD I'm losing my shit! That's like my favourite game of all time!
Oh my god, the JA Cross Code video coming in 2029 has me hyped
I swear I could listen to Joe just rambling about random things for periods of time 10 times as long as this stream recording.
Oh this is really cool, I'll try to listen to all of this today
I freaking *lost it* when you started quoting NL, holy smokes
1:13:10 this sounded eerily similar to NL , and then you said "you piece" and i knew for sure. how surreal
I let out an actual gasp when he said he hadn't played Ultrakill yet.
I can't be believe I didn't know about this absolute plethora of Joseph Anderson content holy fuck
I LOVED Dark, id love to just hear you ramble about it... me and my mom watched it together
We watched it breifly in english then in german to compare and finished the show in german, it was a lot of fun when we were theorizing while waiting for the next season haha, or briefly between eps
anyways, fun to remember those moments, even if you never talk about it
Wow i like how you talk live, sound a bit more vibrant than in your normal videos. Don't mean that as a criticism against your normal vids btw
joe says very unlikely to be a sekiro video because he said everything he wanted to in the elden ring video. but he never criticized sekiro, and i'd love to hear it. or his thoughts on the world and exploratory stuff.
I think the Elden Ring video was great, and I was super impressed with how fast it got out.
omg I have several tabs on Opera GX and I randomly started to listen to someone saying "Hello can you hear me" and then started to sing, and it was so fucking scary to not find where the sound was coming from lol. Love u Joseph, your videos are amaising.
