Hey Sam, I hope you see this. For the next Sugo event try leaving the third outer zone a little earlier and get closer to the inner corner before reaching the touch and go. I noticed when drivers stayed longer on the third outer zone it would then cause them to miss the touch and go do to already getting close to the edge of the track before the touch and go compared to drivers who left the third outer zone earlier and getting closer to the inner corner of the apex
Awesome video as always Sammit. You are an awesome driver and you’re living the JDM dream. Always you forward to watching your races and all the rest of your content. You’ll get podium next time keep up the great work.
I appreciate the realism of how u know ur driving isn't top tier enough and r looking at this for more learning and getting ur self out of terrible situations I'm not a drifter but love watching and I hate the negative people trying to shit on other if drifting was easy just like any sport everyone would do them so just keep pushing up self and getting better with learning to keep calm with a clear mind don't get caught up in emotions in ur own head!!
watching the live stream it really showed how crap that layout is, so many people Zero'd their scores or got low scores because of that touch and go. How are you meant to keep a drift going in a literal straight line out of that 2nd Outerzone
Incredibly well shot & edited video! Almost don't even care how you do because the vid is so awesome lol. Granted you did very well facing the smoke head on in J1.
Sam I noticed you go so hard during practice and you do so well, but during Competition you do ok Guess the pressure gets to your head. Just go out there like it’s practice and have fun Ganbatte
I have an FC Rx7. I love my EWP. I wired mine directly to my Fueltechs PWM output with a DC solid state relay. And it's dope no more thermostat because I tuned the water to flow like a thermostat and I can bleed the car without running it
Why handbrake after EVERY transition only to dump the clutch right after due to no wheel speed? With 800+ hp, doesn’t the car have enough power to upshift to 4th after the tight right hander to make the next outer zone, instead of dragging hand brake??
Sammit the OG S15 looks/sounds insane i think you did phenomenal for them choosing such a bad layout the only thing i would say is you gotta try and relax more i think your nerves are getting the best of you get that under control and youll smash it but keep up the great work 👍
I've bruised both of my heels in a similar fashion, each one about a year apart. The second one was about a year ago early next month, the day before my birthday, where I was supposed to attend Wicked Big Meet on my birthday. Yeah I couldn't even walk for about a week, I had to crawl and then able to hop around after several days. It took probably 5-6 weeks until I stopped limping and having pain. I was definitely still hobbling around after the 4th of July but by the tail end of July I could walk normally.
I also said in the live stream that the layout was trash....The flow is just bad. Then add some rain (without fail, every year) and it's all over rover. I understand FD wanting to challenge the drivers, but they are here for the spectators. If nobody tunes in, what's the point? I'm sure the drivers want to enjoy themselves too..... Haven't watched the vid yet, but will do at lunch! Interested to see what you have to say, Sam.
Long drift zones with re-initiation will happen again at Ebisu. I think you need to hold drift out of the corner, after leaving it sooner and turn again, maybe with e-brake to re-initiate in the zone. You need to fix the bind problem and use an electrical water pump to assist the mechanical one in the car. The belt may just keep popping and you need to figure out a fix.
They need to do what they did in FD St Louis and add extra pavement to the outside of the track where the touch and go is, and then change it to an inner clip and that might make it flow a little better. Too many 0s due to that dumb zone..
DAMMIT SAMMIT! YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAD NO CHOICE WHEN A BELT POPS!!!!! BUT YOU'RE GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO, MAKING PEOPLE SMILE WITH WHAT YOU DO!!!!! THIS ONE WAS A HUMILIATING KICK IN THE CROTCH........" STAY MEN AT WORK, DAMMIT SAMMIT!
nvm sam, next round, i feel u at this stage where u can drift but not competative enough in comp, once u pass this stage u will shine. Keep up, i'm watching always lol
wonder if there's enough space for them to shorten the first touch and go and then add a 2nd one on the opposite side, adding a manji section...doubt they will change the layout tho
nitrous and a new tune with boost coming in sooner, plus new belt would have made the huge difference? would probably be able to run a longer gear ratio with the new low end boost? you're definitely a good driver and getting way better every time you go out!
It is amazing to think that FDJ is pretty much the birthright of all that is drifting but they seem to be over complicating a track layout. Listening to Robbie during the live stream he mentioned that he recognised a problem and even gave the organisers a layout solution that wasn't considered. The touch and go on the outside of the straight section locked to be stretch everyone. It's only the second event of the season Sammy. Take the good days and the bad, we live and we learn. I do have a question for you though that you don't really show much in the form of context during your testing sessions. Do you actually take the time to try dialling in on suspension settings? From our side looking through the looking glass we can't see any of the fine tuning and tweaking.
Guys the layout isn't supposed to be easy, this isn't youtubers doing backies and trains at Ebisu for style points. They design layouts to test different parts of the drivers' abilities and cars.
You need to talk with james and mike dean they are they gods of jz s chassie . I mean james rarely has any issues with alternators belts sterring etc maybe they would share some knowledge
hey sam, a while back you were interested in manual au utes. I have a fresh sprayed, really clean, manual t5 sohc 4l au ute for sale. Its mint and has had a shit load of time & $ spent! Ground up build.
Needed NoS especially for the touch n go point. Keep working Sam you'll get there. Use NoS on those layouts. At least they could fix the track, that touch n go had a chunk missing on the sweet spot just filled with sand. Get it right FDJ it's 2024
10:00 I still think you got robbed so many other drivers made more error's that were far more considerable but hey judges were so tough. I still think you got a mid 50's that first run compared to what some of the second round drivers did on the same day. Overall stopped watching fdj after qualifiers, the judges upset me with the calls they made.
add 10-20mm spacer in the front, it will give you more stability and mainly it will stop the rubbing on suspension and on back of the body, little change solves everything in 1 shot, plus it is a very easy solution xD plus to break losse the nuts with your wheight either do it with your palm open so in case it slips or the nut comes losse suddently your hand doesnt get squished between the floor and the tool, or just get a very long extension/tube to have a lot of torque and do it going up... pretty sure you already know that but sometimes its easy to forget... except when we hurt ourselves, then we remember very well 😂
learn the hard way to perfect your work, i think that where you start and where you are new is day and night differents, so i am maybe wrong but i hope you reach a new highs
23:10 i agree you arent the best in FD japan... far from it, but you are not the worst... you have a proper car, garage, sponsors, you just need practice and learn some tricks on the car and on that level of driving, specially how to deal with the grip difference... people think more grip will make you better... yeah more competitive, but also much harder to drive and the car might outperform the driver pretty easily and then the driver looks "bad"... happens to almost anyone who does a big jump in grip level... not only on japan but also US and other countries i have seen...
Not gonna lie so many people were straightening... yet only a few were being called out as incomplete... daigo saito did straight on his qualify and got a score, you did the same and got a 0... either way from what i see is, you have too much grip on the car and you cant reach the zones well... you need to losse some grip, specially sideways or you need to be even more agressive sending the car sideways (not angle i meant into the curve), plus you need to hit the trottle sooner... you need to actually MELT the tires on that car and that setup... obviously easier said than done but you hit the throttle too late on iniciation making you hit the dirt and also exiting the outside zone making it super hard to reach the touch'n'go... either way it wasnt great but it could have been so much worse too.. you could have crashed, car caught on fire... the results will come with time... just keep going at it and actually trying to improve and you will get there...
To be fair that layout was horrendous... That touch and go zone was ruining everyone's laps. They need to do something about it.
daigo did it fine lol

you and the car were looking so good even if the layout is trash, Progess is being made and it shows! 💪
Robbie even read my comment about how the layout didn’t flow well.
3:20 i looked away from the screen, and that caught me off guard lol. i thought you had some American guy in the background.

The layout with that touch and go was so nonsense. Ruined the whole event. Made all the battles terrible to watch also.
Stop blaming the car, the steering wheel control, throttle control, and gear choice is not correct. Maybe drifting isn't for you mate.
