Bro, you're killing it. You are making this first playthrough even better. Thank you so much for these interviews. I used to have a gaming podcast like this (audio only) and you make me miss it!
Seeing Lae'zel soften as you progress through the acts, even when not romantically involved with her, is incredibly rewarding. She's arguably one of the wittiest party members too, and they're all smart.
100%. Seeing her start to compliment the other party members and just become more relaxed and comfortable in general was pretty rewarding, glad I went through the effort to help her even though I didn't really like her
For me she isn't developing that much. That said I kinda abandoned her side quest when she wants to talk to the inquisitor, since afaik the only way to do it is to give up the macguffin, which I feel my character would never do and would be a gross betrayal of trust toward all other teammates.
@@littlejohnny41gotta push back a bit, then agree to go in and kill the person in the artifact, then not do that, and convey the information to her in the astral plane. Also letting her take the lead in githyanki related conversations leads her to coming to her own conclusions about her people and what’s actually going on. It’s actually pretty cool that you can trust characters to be diplomatic and make logical decisions when it really matters.
After watching/listening to Devora, I can see Lae'zel's fun side, and understand why Lae'zel said "amongst githyanki, I'm considered extremely humorous". 😇☺
I love Lae'zel's expressions and mannerisms and the way she seethes every word - especially when she threatens everything under the sun it always makes me smile lmao. Thank you to Devora for the amazing performance!
The saying goes: "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity" You might've been in the right place at the right time, but you've absolutely nailed your role. It's even more impressive due to the gith'yanki terms and the chk's. Thank you for bringing Lae'zel to life.
Comon! Drax is lol hilarious and lovable and friendly. Basically the polar opposite of Lizzo Laezel. Admittedly I am level 3 like 20 or so wonderful hrs in. I like her well enough with the big flaming sword that she died getting on the nautilus (yet met me saving her from a trap later and acted like we’d never met lol). But Drax of BG3 is going too far Bub. Too far 😂🤣.
Excellent interview! Devora Wilde is amazing. There are some incredible characters in this game but Lae'zel is my favorite out of all not just the playable characters but EVERY character in the game. My day one play-through was a lawful good paladin who clashed with Lae'zel on just about every issue possible but despite the conflict I fell in love with how this alien looked, sounded, and evolved over the course of the story. The writing was impeccable but the true magic was how Devora sold all the chks, istyks, ghaiks, and other bizarre alien language ticks which somehow just felt natural by the end of the game. I also couldn't agree more with Devora that divisive characters can sometimes be the most interesting ones to interact with as they can actually challenge your beliefs or at least make you think about each choice from more than one perspective. Dan, if you're reading this, thanks for the best BG3 cast member interview I've seen yet! Bae'zel
True. I've spend over 500 hours in this game and every time I start a new playthrough I say to myself "now a party without Lae'zel", but this never worked out for me. It's like a void no other companion could fill. She is rude, but basically only says the truth and that alone wins my heart.
Lae'zel is one of my preferred character for many reasons. One of them is seeing she is the most fanatic but you actually want to believe her. She is an amazing character for sure.
I don't think the actors look like their characters, but you can definitely see their performances shine through. The movement for the eyes, mouths, and mannerisms for all of them are very well captured and rendered in the game.
My s/o romanced her in our playthrough together and honestly she's one of the best characters. A lot of her romance scenes are wholesome. I think people just see her appearance and attitude and don't give her a chance.
@@shadowrealms2676I fell for her looks when the first trailer came out many years ago. XD She's the first one I romanced in EA and "oh wow". I love her. XD
She is literally like hitler. She believes her race is superior in every way than the other races. She also believes every race deserves to die because they are not equal to her race. She is also really big into slavery and believes the strong (her race) deserve to control the weak (every other race that isnt her). If you romance her/befriend her, all you do is convince her that you are as strong as her race. You become an exception meanwhile her personality is the same as hitlers. Sure, they can have personal connections, but they still believe in mass slavery and genocide. She loves it anytime you do quirky things like committing mass genocide and murdering children. I know because I went both routes
@@Terminxman That's not really true. Githyanki are extreme pragmatists so any action you do that is pragmatic she will approve of. I played a morally only good paladin and romanced laezel easily, she also approved of most of what I did (saving certain people, killing certain enemies ect)
Lae'zel is my favourite companion, and she's voiced sooo damn well. Spoiler: Especially the scene with the zaith'isk, her performance there really blew me away, such passion.
@MrElKabano Can't be too careful when it comes to spoilers! It's not a big deal but someone could read my post, then when they arrive at the Zaith'isk, it would be less of a surprise performance.
Great interview this! Loving the whole series with the BG3 actors so far! Lae'zel was probably my favorite companion for my first BG3 run. She reminds me a lot of Wenduag from WOTR, in the ways of how you can psoitively influence the characters, and as they then start opening up to your character it feels so rewarding. There's a really sweet character underneath the hard and tough exterior. Great writing and acting in both cases.
At first, it was all about Shadowheart. Then I meet Karlach and she stole my heart. But now, after finishing the creche, Lea'zel might be the one. Doesnt hurt that she goes hard on my monk.
I'm playing a gith run. Watching the betrayal hit her after the creche and the change in her attitude from sycophant to independent warrior is so satisfying.
I feel there is something very unique and excellent in the way she is acted, because usually character would get "fixed" by a "relationship" - but thankfully, not in this case. I feel like we don't really change her, not the core of her - we help her live her truth more fully and help her add to the way she experience the world, and occasionally be willing to risk being vulnerable to get something she wants. (Also, she is kinda of a poet)
She’s a Gem of an actor and great voice. Great interview. I’ve seen several interviews with her at this point and this interview was the only one I remember that asked if she will be playing the game, playing it or can she play. Hopefully someone gets her a PS5 or a good PC to play the game she very much helped to bring to life with her acting.
Lae´zel is my favorite character and romance. At first I didnt like her, but further the game got and I saw more of the character, I just started liking her more and more, stone cold killer with stern and angry facial expression and voice slowly getting softer and softer. Expecially the last camp scene with her, just amazing.
I didn’t have much interest in romancing the character but after watching this I’m interested. Love that Devore is so expressive with her facial expressions. As someone on the spectrum who have trouble reading facial expressions I love when people have these exaggerated facial expressions which makes it a lot easier. Also because I never do them myself. My wife has to keep saying “pretend you are happy” “pretend you love me” because I fail to emote and I’m not even realising it. Being able to be so expressive is impressive for me. She seems very happy and funny and I’m more interested in the character after watching this interview.
I think it says something about the amount of passion and love for the art that these voice actors have that they will spend hours even just talking about their experience opening the door to what it was like to be a part of this process. This is a truly special game and I almost passed it up cause I hate turn based play.
I *made* my D&D character for Baldur's Gate specifically to romance Lae'zel. I absolutely adore her. Lae'zel's dry humor is so infectious and Devora is such a sweetheart... This was so fun to listen to!
I'm in love with Lae'zel! She is so fierce, yet so sweet, like she can kill you or love you, you choose. So many people say she is rude or something but it's their faul for trying to be the nice guy while having her around, she doesn't like softies lol There's this part in which she confront you and you can use the parasite to get into her mind so you find out she is actually scared of not being seen as the might githyanki warrior for her queen, so you understand what's going on with her attitude, it's so interesting to see all these iteractiosn between the characters in the game!
Lae'zel is an awesome character. She has so much depth behind her, and I adore it! Holy moly, Miss Wilde is a badass. I can only imagine that recording must have been so much fun, but very stressful. So much love to all of the actors for BG3
Wasn't expecting lae'zels voice actor to be karlach 😅, same energy Edit: i appreciate the honesty too. Too often you get actors pretending to be fans of something they arent and its really transparent.
Yes, my man is collecting them all! Honestly, I like Lae'zel. I find her sheer-minded determination to get a job done admirable and she isn't always cracking wise. Plus "Teeth-lings" lol.
I started out the game following Shadowheart's romance plotline, but kept things warm with Lae'Zel as well and now I'm at the point where I need to decide. Honestly, not an easy decision, both are such interesting characters, but Lae'Zel is the one that hands down grew on me over time.
I was going with Shadowheart on my first playthrough and didn't get Lae'zel until late in act 1. I was surprised when Lae'zel expressed interest in my character in Act 2. I went with Shadowheart, but legitimately felt bad for Lae'zel. Especially when I had to tell her.
It's cool that they recorded the class specific lines for each origin character. Like the insults for bard or spells for wizard/sorcerer. I didn't think about having to record lines for when someone changes one of the origin characters' classes until she was talking about recording the insults.
I was thinking about this the other day. I am nearing the end of my second playthrough (and watching other people play) and I noticed that there are definitely lines that are slightly different depending on who your character is. It's the same line, but tweaked to match your player character. That's a ton of work to be willing to take the time to say the same line multiple ways to make it feel more immersive. It's impressive.
I loved the character of Lae'zel! She was grating in the beginning, but even then you could feel she has a strong sense of purpose and mission, but won't blindly stick with her believes. Even though I didn't play with her in my party in the first play-through, because wanted to go a first run with Karlach, I knew at the half point in chapter one, that next time Lae'zel will be coming with me. Completely skipped the monastery section too, so there would be even more new things next time around. :)
Its rhe eyes. Because translating mocap from around eyes is hardest . So making that region look like devorah made it much easier for em. Eyes are very expressive in this game so I can definitely see how every actor's' eye structure was on the character they were voicing. Like look at astarion. His eyes are almost one to one same as newbon.
I think she might be right. It might be the combination of the gestures, her voice, and the slight similarity in the eyes. It just really strikes a chord and makes me see Lae'Zel in her quite a lot (which, for me, is a good thing, Lae'Zel is my favorite character.)
This game very much flew under my radar until about last year and I started following it’s release closer. However I do remember seeing images of Lae’zel all the time before I knew where she was from. I just knew she had a very cool design and never knew how to search who she was 😂. That being said she is a great character in a great game!
Lae'zel ended up being my favorite companion character. I would have never had said that if you asked me 2 hours into the game, but by Act3, she was my favorite. I'm eager for another playthrough, and I want to do it completely different, yet I can't imagine playing BG3 without her in my party.
Lae'zel asking for cuddles while sounding like a mortal enemy is forcing her to recite the lyrics of her favourite symphonic metal song is still one of the best moments in the whole game.
Lae’zel is my favorite character, everyone loves Karlach but I can’t even drop lae’zel to try her out. She has this contrast of tough and gentle that really hits for me.
Being a voice actress/actor for this game must be such a roller coaster of an experience. Most aren't gamers and even most gamers have never heard of Larian.
Lae'zel's character introduction was the best in the game. Her mid-character arc was done really well too. Her inner conflict was a joy to witness of her growing into new perspective and experience. I understand the eastern Europeans thing. I'm not from there but I have a lot of habits and cultural etiquette from my grandparents. I feel like we're not being so direct in a rude way, we're just being honest. Fluffing and BS up is more insulting in the harsh truth of someone's opinion.
I love Lae'zel! I did my first good playthrough with a custom character, romanced Shadowheart like most people probably... (maybe they can release some telemetry on who's the most romanced character hahaha) but Lae'zel's story arch is the most engaging and interesting to me and the way she changes through the game as she gets to understand the party members and you is really rewarding. So much so, that it's the first origin character I've started a playthrough with! AND SHE HAS THE MOST KICKASS INTRODUCTION SCENE
Lae'zel is not my favorite character, but definitely most enjoyble to talk to - the voice acting job that was done to this character is at the very top level, at least that's how i feel it. Love the work that you and other actors put in their roles, and obviously, the work of people who hepled create your character and guide you through, much love from Ukraine!
20:20 Glad to hear Kevin VanOrd is doing a great job as a writer and wrote this amazing character! He was my favorite editor at gamespot years ago, reviewed demon souls and gave it game of the year when nobody knows what the heck the game is. Way to go!

Awesome interview. Lae'zel is so charismatic due to the confidence masterfully portrayed.
Laezel is hands down my favorite companion to bring, nice to see her voice actor is just as fun to talk too lol
Her voice acting for Lae'zel is fantastic.
Loving all of these interviews. It's really cool seeing how passionate the cast and crew are.
I cried so hard during the sunset scene, it felt good seeing Lae'zel evolve in such a wholesome way!
She is so perfectly Lae'zel and makes me love and appreciate her more.
At first, didnt like Laezel, hardly used her. Now, shes my BFF and one of THE best fighters and so witty!
Lovin' her so very much! Pure greatness.
I'm going through my first playthrough of the game and I picked Lae'zel as my player character
Such a great character, such amazing work by her!
Such a wonderful people Dan and Dev are!
her sense of humor is soo good, watched the whole interview
This game very much flew under my radar until about last year and I started following it’s release closer. However I do remember seeing images of Lae’zel all the time before I knew where she was from. I just knew she had a very cool design and never knew how to search who she was 😂. That being said she is a great character in a great game!
Lae'zel ended up being my favorite companion character. I would have never had said that if you asked me 2 hours into the game, but by Act3, she was my favorite. I'm eager for another playthrough, and I want to do it completely different, yet I can't imagine playing BG3 without her in my party.
.... She does look like Lae'zel. Amazing work by the cast.
Great Interview Dan. You do so well getting the meat of the conversation.
She's so gorgeous wow and also arguably the best VA out of every companion
Lae'zel asking for cuddles while sounding like a mortal enemy is forcing her to recite the lyrics of her favourite symphonic metal song is still one of the best moments in the whole game.
Devora is right. They need to make a live action BG3 and cast them all as their characters! DO IT!!
Lae'zel was my favourite character in the game my first time through she carried me all the way as the gith train she can be.
Lae’zel is my favorite character, everyone loves Karlach but I can’t even drop lae’zel to try her out. She has this contrast of tough and gentle that really hits for me.
What a beautiful person! Such talent!
She keeps saying "stunning' but she's one of the most stunning people I've ever seen and heard.
Can't wait to meet devora at comic con, so excited!
Being a voice actress/actor for this game must be such a roller coaster of an experience. Most aren't gamers and even most gamers have never heard of Larian.
I'm giving her credit for the eye roll. Love for Lae'zel began there.
Lae'zel is so good, been in my Party since the beginning. Shes such a great person to be sleeping with!! Love the voice acting!!
Thank you for another great interview Dan!
Honestly, i cant tell if its a mocap difference or what but the mocap for Lae'zel was so spot on, the facial expressions and movement were perfect!
Way to go!
