Just wanted to let you know that your great Monologue videos are still being enjoyed, six years later. I recently picked one up and wish I'd done so sooner. Having an absolute blast with it. And applying many of the excellent lessons and tips from this series. Thank you so much!
Another great video! I'm running through all of these Monologue videos because I haven't bothered to spend enough time figuring mine out and I figured it's about time. Thank you for taking the time and effort to do these! I wish more of the parameters could be thrust negative using the shift button like the Intensity knobs. Like, if I could make the filter key track inversely, that would be cool. Edit: I edited because I initially said the LFO, which is in fact the first thing that I learned could be reversed using the shift button, I misspoke. But I was thinking something else!
Setting up the LFO to Key Trigger on the Korg Volca Keys gives this same trick. I mod the filter with a ramp down saw LFO. Gives me a nice Herbie Hancock Chameleon bass pop with a bit of resonance. My Monologue was just ordered so looking forward to these two working together soon. Great tips. Like you mentioned, synths with limits help you look for work arounds. I use these work arounds on other synths and they lead to things like synths with 3 envelopes modulating oscillators, filters and amps to varying degree on the same patch. It can give you some wild random results with different envelope rates and fast or slow LFO retrigger speeds.
Absolutely fantastic insight! I love my Monologue very much, but I was one of those who's always had some reservations on the lack of control you can have on the filter envelope. This video just made me love my Monologue a little bit more! :)
No problem! Actually, I have a question relating to the main envelope (not the "second envelope"): how does the bottom "type" work? the one that looks like a normal Attack/Decay, but with a box around it. I've played with it and I have an idea of how it sounds, but I don't know how it works.
+E. Grey S. That's "gate mode". So, in the other two modes the VCA is controlled by the envelope - so you're getting a volume change along with whatever you're aiming the envelope at. So in the other two modes, you can set up an attack and decay, but leave "Int" at zero and you'll still get a volume envelope. The bottom "gate mode" decouples the VCA - the VCA turns up when you hold down a key and shuts off when you release it. It's useful of you're doing long filter sweeps with the envelope for example - you can really hear that initial part of the sweep, whereas in the other 2 modes it'd be too quiet to really enjoy it! Does that make sense?
yo I made the fake sample and hold actually sounds smoother ...I call it "Sample and Fold" by the way I set my global tune to -32 and down by -4 on semitone makes it c to c lol

Korg should be paying you, best tips and tricks for this little beast!
+Groove Q haha, I don't know about payment... But if they had a spare Minilogue they wouldn't mind parting with... ;)

Huh. Cool, thanks! Will have to test this out.
