There are some things that the speaker should have mentioned, but didn't.
I cannot tell you how important that we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the unspeakable gift of the Holy Ghost. Unless you are born of the water and of the Spirit, you cannot enter the Kingdom of God, let alone see it.
You must receive the Holy Ghost the same way the Lord did, and you will have no doubt that you have received it. As surely as you knew when you were baptized in water, you will know when you have been baptized in fire and in the Holy Ghost. This is testify, having received this blessing.
2 Nephi 31:12 And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do.
With the Holy Spirit as your guide, you will receive revelation and commandments directly from the Lord to prepare you in all things to enter His Presence and receive eternal life.
2 Nephi 32:5 For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do.

I am sorry that he taught an incomplete view of the Doctrine of Christ. He didn't speak about the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost (2 Nephi 31:17,18). He did not talk about the straight and narrow path. He did not teach about Nephi saying, "after ye have gotten into this straight and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold I say unto you NAY!" (2 Nephi 31:19). Even Nephi knows that this is incomplete. There is so much more, but we do not teach it in the church today, and we skip the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and the straight and narrow path. We love to talk about the covenant path, even though it is NOT in the scriptures. I don't understand why we do this. The earlier brethren of the church taught this properly: Bruce R. McConkie, Spencer W. Kimball, Ezra Taft Benson, Boyd K. Packer, and Joseph Smith. These brethren all taught this with power and authority and taught it completely. I am sad to hear this incomplete teaching.

I didn’t join LDS but it seemed pretty watered down. Joseph Smith predicted the LDS church would go apostate in the last days. We are there. Are these older talks available online?

I’m so confused - he literally spoke about all of those things multiple times. For me this talk stood out amongst the others.

      Hi Jim,
What Elder Schmutz taught may not use the exact same words to describe what you are used to hearing. However the real question is: When this man delivered this message, did you listen to what the Holy Spirit was telling you personally about how you can be more Christlike? We are all human and won't be able to preach the Gospel of Christ perfectly, especially when it comes to individual council and understanding, however the Holy Spirit can speak directly into our hearts, and minds.
Even great Prophets can have difficulty describing what wisdom they know and to explain it to others.
The key though is to invite the Holy Spirit to speak personal wisdom to our souls.
"And I said unto him: Lord, the Gentiles will mock at these things, because of our weakness in writing; for Lord thou hast made us mighty in word by faith, but thou hast not made us mighty in writing; for thou hast made all this people that they could speak much, because of the Holy Ghost which thou hast given them;"
      -Ether 12:23
Also just because someone doesn't use the same words to describe the Doctrine of Christ, doesn't mean that what they say is contradictory to to what the Scriptures teach.
I hope this helps. God bless you brother!
