Square towers do have their uses. The square tower allows you to project more force in the direction the walls are facing, via adjacent arrow slits and machicolations.

Replace the middle block on ramparts for stone walls lf matching type to create machicolations, make the build 2 blocks taller and finish lining the base with cobble stairs on cobble to make a mound at the base and then i shall approve of the build. The Machicolations allow you to fire down at invaders while the mound, at least irl, puts invaders on a steep incline where it is hard to try to break through the walls and sets a minimum distance that Explosives can be placed against wall. If you upscale it, change the outside towers to rounded towers to deflect cannon shot, else opt to design a Norman Castle if you insist on the square vibes
