I had my 1970 FG300 stolen in college in 1973. Luckily I was able to get it back and still own it. Wonderful guitar!

Beautiful work! I also have a '71 FG-300 that needs some repair and restoration and this gives me some optimism. I appreciate this video tremendously, thanks!

I think The FG-300 ended its run in 1976 when it was replaced by the very similar FG-350W. I still have one of the latter which I bought new in the late seventies in Hessy's (the old Beatles guitar shop in Liverpool). For a so called laminate guitar (actually 3 way cross ply with good tone woods) they are well constructed and continue to sound and play great.

I've got the mine one in 1978 when i was 17... a second hand piece bought to a neigbor and apart fron the pickguard and one of the tuners of the headstock its in very good condition and sounds absolutelly moreover with new strings (I particularly like Elixir 10 47) im on the way to get a pickguard to restore it... lets see.

The fg series were great sounding guitars. I have a 73 FG-360 Nippon Gakki MIJ (Tan/Green label). Can't find out alot about that model but it's the first one I reach for. Sounds great!

I bought mine new in h Chicago in 1969 for $200 with a very sturdy hardshell case. I no longer have it anymore but played it several years ago. It still sounds very good despite it showing wear.

Cool guitar! Just from hearing you play it a little bit, I think those strings sound really nice. Have a good day!

Thanks! I agree, the tone is there for sure! I'm a little bit of a caveman in my desire for loud and more loud though. Can't get away from it!

I have a 1970 tan label. Made in Taiwan, ROC. Looks identical. They're bright sounding, that's for sure.
Can you believe the piece of lumber bracing the back? This thing was made to take places, that's my observation as an owner of one for 48 years after buying it in a shop, second hand.
    Here's why i say that.
First, pick it up, and hold another dreadnought in the other hand. Which one weighs the most?
The FG will. This dreadnought is a dreadnaught. Partly because of the huge support under the back of the thing. That's a hunk of lumber. Woah.
Second, If you notice, there is a finish on the INSIDE of the guitar. This is likely meant to preserve it. It seems to work, because mine's been rained into, and it never stained the wood in there. ; )
Thirdly, the ply back, top, and sides kind of minimize any chance of cracking and warping, and, the bracing is hefty too.
These things that make it last longer, and make it sturdy, you would think, would badly affect the sound. They mellow as they age, but this one is finished inside, you know? The pickguard is as thick as a both covers on a matchbook, with all of the matches in it. That too, you'd think might diminish the tone. Maybe it does?
Al that said, I'm using 13/55 Elixer polywebs on mine.
It thunders. Loud, bright and surprisingly good tone, and yes, it's mellowed and gained resonance over the years.
You can blast chords across the strings with a medium fender pick, and it won't buzz.

Cool story- I'd have been so elated, glad the owner was reunited with that guitar. Where was it made?

It was made in Japan, but I'm not sure exactly which Yamaha factory.
