The wife and I had our honeymoon in Blackpool back in 1979. We visited Blackpool airport and was able to take a flight on a light aircraft for about a fiver 😂😂😂 no booking or anything. We flew over the tower and along the coast it was great. The pilot even let me take the controls and showed me how to steer it... I bet you wouldn't get that these days... Happy days.. 😂😂😂
Believe it or not you can go to air navigation and trading at Blackpool airport and still have a flight locally including around the tower. They may even let you fly the aircraft for a while. The only downside is it costs a lot more than a fiver. Ask for James or Russell they will oblige you
Great video of blackpool airport it look amazing place to view the planes i can't wait for next video I hope you and your family and friends are well and safe
Thank you very much for sharing this interesting video. I’ve never been to Blackpool airport . You are always finding different interesting things to show everyone. Thanks again Stephen. See you in the next one 👍❤️❤️❤️
The control tower is referred to as Blackpool Tower between air traffic control and pilots. So to avoid confusion, Blackpool Tower (the metal one, opposite the comedy carpet) is called Blackpool Tall Tower.
Once flew to and from The Isle of Man, from Blackpool Airport. Just time for a brew and a boiled sweet...then we were coming into land. My type of flight! 😊
We. Had our wedding reception at the Terminal Bar in May 1969 when Silver City were flying out to the Isle of Man and a Boeing 727 landed that day from Spain. One of the first landing’s of the large passenger aircraft that Luxy Tours ran.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Was in Morrisons cafe last Friday and they must of had the kitchen door open at the back and all you could smell in the cafe was Kerosine and hear the air ambulance warming up. It’s a poor set up that poo👹
Hi Steven, just back from Blackpool after a mad weekend as all ways, miss being able to fly straight into Blackpool, about 20 years ago they done the airport up, and started charging everyone leaving twenty pound to leave on you're flight, some people had no sterling left it was madness , so like they did a few years later in robin hood airport, Ryanair stopped flying in and out of there sadly because of the airport charge to leave, and now no one uses it, that's bad form, the run way was the shortest run way Ryanair ever landed on and we all ways got a warning to brace for landing as the runway was so short ,very funny for some but not for others
Really enjoy your videos. The rigs helicopters are now AW169, Italian made rather than French. They changed when NHV came in in 2021. They use the runways because of passenger carrying regulation for commercial air transport, having the runway also means they can do running landings in an emergency.
Used to take trips from Blackpool airport many years ago. Some were to Fleetwood but you could also go as far as the Lake District. Not expensive either. You could also llook round that military aircraft they had outside the club building where you booked the trips. I've been allowed to fly the plane too.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always I like going to airports love seeing the take off and landings wow that helicopter was really cool have a great day xx
Brilliant, Stephen😊. There is something exciting about an airport. I live very near to Glasgow airport and enjoy a walk around the perimeter now and then😊
Thanks Sheila. I might head over to Manchester Airport and have a look at some bigger planes. It'll be worth a video because there is so much to see, including the experience of walking through the tunnels under the runways.
It’s DA-62 the one they refueling it’s a Medical one from island. The helicopter looks like Leonardo AW109. If you get G-info it tell you about them and who owns them
Some shops are 1100-1700 on Sundays instead of closing at 1600. Surprised Morrisons haven't fenced off that area round the back!!! Or charge during airshows!!!
Great video Stephen. Do you remember years ago that someone had to land at B'pool with a loose gear and at the same time, some lad in a hot air balloon overshot Ireland and ditched in a field near the airport?
I remember the emergency plane landing, but I think the balloon was somewhere up Pilling I think. Some Irish adventurer who was trying to balloon around the world, I think.
Stephen you need to do a video on a flight with ANT flight training. Someone bought me a voucher a year ago for a 1 hour flight as a gift. I went in a 2 seater Cessna 150 aerobat. With a polish pilot. They were superb. Extremely friendly. Cost about £150. We went to arnside and back. I took controls for lots of it. The pilot did barrel rolls and loop the loops on the way back. Not joking. One of the best things ive done. Highly recommended.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpoolit was about this time last year. I told the pilot I was going to RIAT last year. And had just been to see top gun. He said oh you like top gun, do you want to do some stunts. I was just laughing and thought he's joking. Then he leant over and tightened my straps, then looked above the windscreen where the 'Aerobat' has a sticker saying recommended minimum air speeds for common stunts. Barrel roll etc. Said right now what should we do. And right over cleveleys just went ahead and started doing loop the loops etc. It was crazy. Amazing! He said he and his boss had just been certified to do stunt flying training. I think when you purchase a flight you can ask for the stunt one.
What a disgrace. 200 million people live within a 2 hour flight from Blackpool. How many of those 200 million people visit Blackpool? None! The council have a would be marvellous facility here and it is just standing idle because they have no vision and are basically useless.

Wow! Love that red aeroplane!
I wish it would open again as a fully functioning airport a direct flight from edinburgh to blackpool would be a game changer.

Glad you enjoyed it Wayne
Had a decent view of planes and helicopters landing and taking off when I've been watching football at AFC Blackpool.
We were up in Inverness 10yrs ago and Tesco were open 10 o’clock on a Sunday night
The Helicopter is a AW169 (Augusta Westland 169)
And the plane is a Diamond Aircraft DA-62
Good subject Steven. I love these regional airports.
Hopefully we will still have it for decades to come.
Thank you very much for sharing this interesting video. I’ve never been to Blackpool airport . You are always finding different interesting things to show everyone. Thanks again Stephen. See you in the next one 👍❤️❤️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it Mildred.
You should ask the air ambulance crew if you could do a video and get an Ariel view of Blackpool from inside the helicopter a fly on the wild side 🤣🤣
😂
Theres nothing like a good wander around a small airport its surprising what you may see landing or taking off 👍

yes I remember the banking over was quite severe
I think the sporty twin is a Diamond 62. It’s always fun to visit the airport.
Interesting, thanks for the info about the air show...
I remember staying at Pontins when I was young. It backed onto the airport if I recall.
Thanks
Thanks Karen 🙏
If you are thinking of using the Sandhills for the air show, find alternative parking. Cannot park alongside the hills any longer.
Fascinating video. I've driven past it many times but never stopped to look. 👍
Brilliant video Stephen I go pass there in Blackpool Airport on holiday this year in Halloween and Christmas when I go pass it so great video Stephen.
Great Video Bud 👍👍Love parking round the airport and being nosy 👍👍🛸🛸

Thanks Steven that’s was a very interesting video 👍
When a helicopter can make a rolling takeoff it uses less fuel and puts less stress on the aircraft, especially if it is fully loaded 😉😉
I’ve yet to go see the airport but looks interesting nice one Stephen 🚁
Thanks for update Stephen

Well, I’m wondering if they might use those security fences lying by the side there.
A pilot friend of mine once told me that MOST helicopters choose to take off "like a plane" as it puts less stress on the engine and rotors.
Drone taxis coming expect em in blackpool
The red " sporty" plane you saw flying from the Airport is a type of Aircraft called a Diamond DA62. It is owned by a company called IAS Medical.
I'm guessing not many main planes land there now, and I guess Stephen will be doing coverage of the air show 😊
They found out that the Boeing 727 was to big to land on its short runway so they settled for the BAC 111 jet.

When they got rid of the terminal, it was pretty much game over for commercial flights. The questions over the airport's future still go on.
