It really depends on what data is in the roaming profile, if you train users NOT to use the desktop for files/folders then your profiles can be small, redirect document, music, picture folders to the users personal drives also lowers the profiles substantially and really not noticeable for space, load on server or speed of login when done correctty
Hello after setting up the redirect folder and setting up the Group Policy, everything is redirecting except for the documents folder.. Do I need to do something else to assure the document folder redirects as well.
A roaming profile will allow the data to be stored in two places. How do you manage diskspace on the server. Do you thin provision a VM to allow it to continuously grow to accept the folder redirection?
You said roaming profile we don't use anymore, what do you mean by that, it saves on the server and loads back to the user logged on from, so as folder redirection???
HI, what I mean by this is is many organizations have adopted folder redirection instead, All users who login to a WIndows computer will have a local profile established on the PC, if you use roaming profiles that profile is copied upto the server, this means DESKTOP as well, many users like to keep lots of data on thier desktop, this causes the push/pull of data to take time when uploading the profile to the server and downloading the profile to the PC on every login, this creates poor performance. You can eliminate this by using folder redirection instead, and user training too but many companies never budget for that. I will expand on this with my new series for profiles coming shortly
hi, about 20% of our users are using roaming profiles and the rest are not. Do you know How can i get a list of users who ARE using roaming profiles in legacy domain? Thank you
Hi. I am a cross one dilema. Can i roaming the user picture/foto taken on local machine on the roaming profile? I'm trying to figure out but seems impossible! Thanks
Generally you would point user data to a mapped drive (users personal folder) created when you create the user in AD I will be creating a while series of videos on this topic shortly
So if i login to another pc with the same domain, with one of the roaming profile then i don't lost all my data right? Just like desktop or etc...!? :)
Hi Sir Thank you so much for the Video, One of my school teacher's Roaming profile is corrupted so Microsoft Team is not working which is very impotent at the moment, D you have any advise to work around it? Many thanks
Corrupt profile is generally on the local PC, go into AD remove the roaming profile path (record where it points to for later) goto local PC. Clean up profiles by deleting them, sometimes you may need to clean up temp profiles too. Google “windows temping profiles” to clean those up, once completed login to pc as that user, confirm all is well then turn on roaming profile again for that user, should pull down previous settings/profile
There are several ways to do this, one method is to put a group permission on the policy, place users in the group where policy will be applied and exclude users from the group in which you wish not to have the policy apply to them
Thanks very helpful video and also information the comment section with ur elaborate explanations. Got my redo tomorrow :D
Roaming profiles take a lot of time to load if they are large plus they can compromise a server if too much data is loaded onto a server.

Thank you, this was very helpful and well explained.
Great video, helped me a lot.
Can we make this a template so that whenever we create a new user, the GP is automatically set?

Disk quota! Best tool to use in FSRM, we quota the users, it emails them when space is low and to clean up

btw 6:54 - i'm pretty sure those profiles are at FS2, and you're at FS1 :)
@@Compuguy np. useful clip though
how can I exclude a user from the redirect folder in Group Poilicy, or can i select only one ou to assign the redirection too

How about outlook ? Emails etc
I have exam user accounts and only one drive is mapped but when users login they can’t see downloads and documents.
Check AD account and confirm users personal drive is mapping
10:38 was that a sneeze? xd
