If you're playing a character with an attribute less than 8, you're playing a disabled character. There's just no other RP way to explain why your character has that negative modifier. There is something _wrong_ with that character.
Nick Williams I don’t agree with this. A person with one arm can be more dexterous than someone with two arms. Below average does not mean disabled. If you never learn to read you will be dumber than the average person, but that does not mean you have a disability. A 5 or lower is more likely to have disability no matter what Having a really high like a 16 and a 7 could also imply disability but that doesn’t mean anything. Even then someone with one arm if they didn’t lose their dominant arm could be more dexterous than someone with two arms
Conrad Korbol I'm not saying that you can't play a disabled* character whose talent or training allows them to compensate for that disability (perhaps even exceeding the abilities of most fully-abled people). The comics character Daredevil would be an example of this that most people would be familiar with. Or the character Shakaste in Critical Role. Or, as you imply, a one-armed fencer whose skill more than makes up for their disability. What I'm saying is that if a character suffers a -2 on an attribute check, that implies some form of disability associated with that attribute. It's just demands an explanation. To give an example, severe asthma would be an excellent way of explaining why your character has a CON of 6. But there's nothing stopping you from creating a CON 18 character whose efforts to overcome their severe asthma are _why_ they are in such extraordinary physical condition (this is actually the story of more than a few Olympic athletes). I'm not saying that a disability implies a low attribute, I'm saying that a low attribute implies a disability.
Going back and watching this after watching all of a Rogue's Gambit, I chuckle every time Mark thinks it's going to be in the style of Mission Impossible or James Bond.
One year of watching everything on the channel, then my first instinct was to watch Rouge's Gambit again. When Tom describes the left fist on right arm, I suddenly remembered why I came back to watch this again. Can't wait! Edit: Tom goes into more detail, and my coffee's coming out of my nose, and I run to the bathroom, because I'm crying and caughing and almost throwing up from laughter. NSFD: Not Safe For Drinks
I know this is all done ages ago, but gotta point out to people you cannot go above 20 in a stat unless it explicitly says so, for example, the Barbarian keystone states your maximum STR and CON are now 24, so when Mark says feats can bring a score to above 20 that's not correct as far as official feats are concerned.
Katie complaining about a total of 70 has obviously never rolled a 56. A 70 with a 15 and 17 is perfectly playable. It's not even going to negatively effect your game, unless you misunderstand what Intelligence as a D&D stat is and think you have to play a fool when you don't want to. Hell, in some ways having bad stats is a good thing, as long as they're not all bad. Shit going wrong is almost always than shit going right, as long as your DM isn't the 'rocks fall, party dies' type. You could also roll with that 56 and just embrace the chaos. You're going to be a focal point of a lot of good RP and hilarity. I've always viewed rolls like 6,6,8,8,12,15 as a wizard's stats. Become a righteous necromancer getting his own back on all those nasty bastards with average genetics, using only the power of your mind. Screw that guy Timmy who beat you up in school well and truly!

Could you make up some kind of knuckle dusters as a skin for Tom’s character? Feel like it would be very fitting to the boxer/bruiser type. Idk if it’s possible to use stats from another similar weapon but just rp as finesse knuckledusters?
A cestus or a punch dagger such as a katar would do nicely. Just reskin a regular old d4 dagger and he'd still have a significant improvement on his damage.
Alternative homebrew rolling. 1) First roll 4d6, six times (as per normal). Then you can add two points to one score of your choice, as long as the original score is 16 or less. An optional rule you can add if you want a broader stat spread, is that you must also remove two points from a stat of your choice (usually meaning a bad dice roll becomes even worse). 2) This is more complicated. For any roll only the best 3 dice count as usual. Every time you roll under 16 you add a dice to the next roll, but any roll that is 16 or more drops you back to rolling 3d6 for the next roll. Example: Roll 3d6. You roll 2,4,6, = 12 Roll 4d6 You roll 1,3,3,5 = 11 Roll 5d6 You roll 2,4,5,5,6 = 16 Roll 3d6 You roll 1,2,3 = 6 Roll 4d6 You roll 2,4,5,6 = 15 Roll 5d6 You roll 1,1,2,4,5 = 11 These alternative ways of rolling give a better chance of getting a viable character with your first roll, while still not being overpowered.
Using D&D beyond you can go around the multiclass issue by setting the stat to the appropriate number to multiclass, select to multiclass then go back and change the stat back to what it actually is. But the multiclass will still be there

I'm intrigued by Mark's choice of how to roll the dice for the six initial values. Roll four, remove the lowest, and hope for a total modifier of +6. I'm ok with this if Mark and the players are, but there are two troubles about the method that make me worry that the players aren't going to get what they're hoping for. First is that the highest score possible is 18, not 20. On a d20, this would happen 1 out of every 20 times, but on three out of four d6's this is only going to happen 1 out of every 216 times. Second is that the average of the 4 d6's is going to be around 14 most of the time (28% likelihood of 13, 14, or 15), which then will have the lowest die subtracted from it, putting most outcomes around 12 or lower. Anyway, as I said, all of this is ok, as long as players and dm are ok with it. If they are, I am too. I'm really enjoying watching the High Rollers content, so thanks for the time and effort you all put into producing it!
@@HighRollersDnD I think the summation of what they're arguing is that the odds of getting the stats aimed for are low. Not that I agree with that assessment and the idea of using the d20 to roll stats is just absurd to me.

Never personally liked guns in D&D, they are cool, but felt they unbalanced it, especially the Gunslinger class, even if early on it is pretty weak once it hits the Reload since it takes being at least level 5 to always get at least a shot off with extra attack if you had one round shot weapons. Though this module apparently does add pistols from what I saw when looking into season 8 of Adventurer's League. But those will probably just be based off the ones in the DMG, so loading property vs reload. So loud noisy guns will be in the game that I feel stealth might need to be more key for but who knows? Can't wait till I get to play Dragon Heist with my group and I can't wait to watch the episodes of this. And see how many of those dice will be burnt off the bat since it looks like they will have 50+ for the first game. So wonder if that will be the norm.
Matt Mercer's gunslinger class has a lot of balance problems. I actually made a "gunslinger, revised" on the DMsGuild, which actually adheres to design principles of 5th edition, is balanced against existing fighter archetypes, and doesn't rely on an ambiguous crafting system,
Race to see who can make the most sub-optimal character. Jk, sort of. I know you guys like story and all of that, but you don't have to sacrifice story to make an effective character. For example, if you want to be a dexterous character, you might want to take a weapon other than a baseball bat. You can easily find an equally flavorful way to incorporate dex weapons. I say this because Mark isn't always a forgiving DM, and the players are going to need to be at least moderately effective, but at this point, they've set themselves up for repeated failure.
Quiet was like one of the best most useful sidekicks and had a great story that I felt subverted the immediate judgements one would make upon first seeing her. Shame that. Missed out quite a bit.
It is a shame.... They complained of sexism and misogyny before understanding the character. Before realizing how badass Quiet really is. Some people....no how much we like them... (Tom and Kim) have severe blindness because they are closed minded.
There's a standard set of stats in the PHB?! Damn my DM fucking really shitty then since I got absolutely fucking terrible stats and had to keep them the first time I ever played DND. Wasn't even really DnD, he tried to make a monstrosity of a sci fi adventure out of the DND books instead of buying actual modules or anything. It was so fucking terrible.
If I was Mark I absolutely would not let that hand count as a finesse weapon. Maybe if he rolled better stats or even took standard array... Does Tom just feel like Reynard was OP so now nerfs his own characters? Which is hilariously dumb, considering Reynard was min-maxed to all fuckery. Just play one game as an ordinary plain old balanced character and focus on strategy and roleplay ffs you don't need eighteen gimmicky character nerfs to have fun
So the Standard Array costs 25 in point-buy, the average at level 1. +6 is very kind, Marky. Also, in terms of skills, you can be very good. I had a Warlock/Bard who has a +27 performance, once upon a time. The Cyclops was Polyphemus or something.
+8 to Cha. An Item that gave all my skills +1. Proficiency and Expertise at level 17ish gives +12 (Total of +21 so far), and Proficiency with various instruments makes it +27 if i'm using them. Unearthly Chorus gives advantage on Performance checks, just in case I need the overkill.
@@ironcladguildhand9321 you can not add your proficiency bonus twice in one roll, so you broke the rules on that one. You had a +21 which is still insane!

@ana mc Lol! I see what you did there! Very funny! That comment gets a like from me.....very punny. :-)

Ability Modifiers start on an even number always. 1 is -5, 2 is -4, 4 is -3, 6 is -2, 8 is -1.
Seven is -2. Kim maths begone.
They did come to that conclusion... just so ya know
There's a standard set of stats in the PHB?!
In what way was Quil nerfed? He’s easily the most broken of the Aerois characters
@@Amon2323 Quill is broken do to items and boons though so most of that is on Mark

So the Standard Array costs 25 in point-buy, the average at level 1. +6 is very kind, Marky.
Also, in terms of skills, you can be very good. I had a Warlock/Bard who has a +27 performance, once upon a time.
The Cyclops was Polyphemus or something.
How in the world did you get that modofier?
