    I would love to see a deep dive on zippers! I see them for sale by the yard, but have no idea what to do or how to install the pieces together.

    That zip clamp at 9:00 is a #10 Vislon end clamp. I'd recommend that end clamp that you showed at 8:20 ish that looks. The Vislon flat end clamp is notorious for breaking needles when you are reconstructing the zip ends. Smaller the better I have learned.

    I have a nylon zip which has the webbing coming away from the teeth by about 1cm. This causes the zip to stop at this point. This is on a carry on case at the bottom. Can this be fixed? If so how?

    Can you show how a zipper pull can be replaced on a handbag? Basically what you did with the jacket, but with a handbag.

    Are zipper pulls interchangeable between brands? I am trying to replace a TAT brand and the one I ordered does not work. Where is the best place to order them?

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  10 месяцев назад

      I often find that pulls are interchangeable, however, we always end up needing to try them, there’s no one specific brand that works with every type of zipper so it’s always a trial and error process.

    Hi Shae! Love watching your videos. When I was removing covers on outdoor cushions to wash them, most of the sliders broke. They are nylon coil zippers and the pull has DUNLAP on it, and on the back of the slider is a “4”. The problem is I cannot find size 4 coil zipper sliders. I looked at the DUNLAP site, and it looks like they don’t even make a size 4 zipper. Is it possible this is actually a size 4.5?

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  Год назад +3

      Yes, definitely possible! My favorite way to buy zipper pieces though is getting a variety pack so that I dont have to guess right, so look for something that will send you a few different pieces at once, they are usually cheap enough that the price difference shouldn't be to bad!

    I have a winter coat that has a strong zipper right up the front. The type you feed in one side to zip up. The feed has torn away from the fabric with use. Sometimes I am able to close the zipper but as it is damaged it opens from the bottom while I am wearing it. I tried to repair it with glue but then it won’t feed into the closer….everything else is perfect. Are there any kind of replacements which I could clamp on?

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, as long as the zipper tape is still strong enough to hold a new metal retainer you should be able to just clamp that on. The retainer has two sides, both are metal and they usually come as a set in sizes equivalent to zipper pulls. if your actual zipper tape and/or fabric is too shredded or torn away, you’re gonna need a new zipper in there.

    I n the next couple of months, I am going to attempt to put a hidden zipper in a seat cushion. I need to change the padding. When I sat on this chair for the first time it jarred my teeth. I think the cushion is filled with cement.

    Zippers seem so poorly made now. They separate so easily and after such a short time after purchasing an item. Have you noticed this yourself? I can’t decide if it is better to repair or just purchase a new zipper. Of course, I’m then left thinking, will new zipper separate soon after purchasing. So, I don’t fix any zippers.

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  Год назад +2

      I try to stitck to zippers that have individual teeth versus the continuous coil style, that way you can actually replace individual teeth instead of the entire zipper getting ruined by one imperfection.

    Sorry. The end of this. Don't do it however. Do it correctly. Clamp the end far enough out of the zip line to finish it like factory. Pre plan. Use the right tools. Envision before you do anything; where your working area is on the finish side "right side or outside". Then you will visually know your end game. Mark on the working "inside" where the placement of the end clamp needs to be. Then clamp separating closure. Never use pliers that are serrated. They will mar the finish of the new or old zipper. When hammering; do not hammer onto the fabric itself. Have a 2"x2" wood block just to put into pockets for this. Never do half donkey work.

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  11 месяцев назад

      I don’t know that I agree this is ‘half-donkey work’ lol. but good, thoughtful tips. Thanks for the comment!

    That looks terrible though. If I'm paying a tailor to fix a zipper, i want it actually fixed not just bubblegum and duct tape to make it "work". Thats just a quick patch up not an actual fix.

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  10 месяцев назад +3

      It is indeed a quick patch up, intended for someone who’d like to try their hand at doing this themself, that’s why we’ve got plenty of other videos on actually zip replacements!

    • @kayro8853
      @kayro8853 6 месяцев назад +3

      Exactly what looks terrible?? This is an excellent practical fix. You pay for the type of fix you want. If you want an entirely new zipper on your jacket, you will be charged much more. Its your job to tell your tailor exactly what service you are requesting from them and then to pay accordingly.
