Agree 100% i think that xbox is going live service only, and sony will follow, they dont care about gamers or especially ones that like non digital copies, as i feel sadly they will only increase prices on consoles and games to the point, you would be better off buying a pc, and also YT - Ink Ribbon did a similar video on gamer frustrations
Playstations problem imo, is that they try to compete with pc, by focusing on games made for mostly pc specs. PS should've done their own thing, like Nintendo. PS has no identity anymore if you ask me. They can't sell a modern ps with hardware that can compete with modern pc, price, size and performance. TV's going 4k native is a massive jump.
I don't know if you're a psn guy but sony always tried to be a tech showcase. Mgs2, mgs3, Mgs4, last of us, uncharted 2, uncharted 4, god of war, order 1886, Detroit become human, spiderman and more and more and most are visually mind-blowing games for their respective times where Nintendo being a toy company they just do their classic thing. None of their games were called visually pleasing in any year. So sony is just doing sony, nothing has changed.
I have just about the same starting story as you. Started on the NES when I was like 4 or 5, and dad gave me a SNES when I beat my first game. Then before I knew it, my parents had stockpiled a whole tote tub of NES and SNES. Then my mom pulled me to the PS1 to play some of her favorite games (NFS underground, Spyro, and skull monkeys) by the time I was like 6 or 7 (loved FFVII). I grew up trying every Nintendo system and PlayStation system back and forth. However, being as I'm 26 now and still have ALL of the arsenal my parents provided over the years. I don't find myself loving too many new titles from either company whatsoever anymore. I avoid season pass games, but I loved Diablo 2 (never got to try it until PS5 remade it due to not having a PC). FPS's have been a joke, but I absolutely loved BO1&BO2 for all of what both had to offer. Pokemon doesn't hit the same anymore, but I still have my old gameboy's and all gen 1, 2, 3 games. Even bought the younger siblings 'new' gameboy's and 1 different copy of a gen 3 pokemon to play so I had someone to play with and so they could experience what it was all like. All in all though, I don't think just PlayStation is failing, I think modern gaming as a whole has been failing for about as long as you said. Roughly 5 years ago if not longer. I think the last new game I enjoyed recently for everything it had to offer was Horizon Zero Dawn.... Beautiful world, clean combat, and an amazing story.
Damn I agree with pretty much everything in this comment. Loved HZD (fell in love with Persona 5 around the same time). BO1 and BO2 are my most played COD games. BO1 was what pulled me into the franchise and I did enjoy the MW trilogy as well. Still mad they butchered the MW3 remake. Diablo 2 was my first PC game and I’ve been playing the remake before bed at night lately. It holds up really well. I’m glad you shared your experience, this was fun to read!
The death of Gravity Rush makes me very sad, that's the kind of game I associate with PlayStation at its best. The fact that stuff like Ape Escape and Wipeout is dead is bonkers too. Ridge Racer as well, Legend of Dragoon. Lots of their arcadey style spilt screen franchises are dead but they could sbsolutely compete with Switch in that department if they gave a shit. Its money left on the table. In face they could wipe Nintendo, they did it once. They have IP's that have been dead for 2-3 gens that have no reason to be.
Gravity Rush is incredible. But I feel gamers are as guilty as Sony is. Sony shutting Japan Studio was awful. But a lot of gamers will not branch out beyond Assassin's Creed, CoD, Warzone, Fortnite, Resident Evil, Madden, FIFA, etc. They see an anime aesthetic or an E rating and they just recoil. "I only play "mature" games!" they claim, not realizing that playing M-rated titles doesn't necessarily equate to artistic, intellectual or emotional maturity. Incredible games like Gravity Rush can suffer not just from studio mismanagement... but because gamers are often unwilling to step beyond their gaming echochamber and give something more niche and unique a chance.
Now you know, be it Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo: they never, ever respected their consumer base, it's all marketing stunts and we were just lucky to have competition that benefited us, now that the whole market is acquired to Sony there's no stop for corporate greed. If you're looking for a company that respects players, forget consoles, use a PC.
Yea think its almost time for me to leave PlayStation. On top of that the massive 7 billion dollar lawsuit against Sony corporate, if found guilty……that would surely hurt Sony as a whole.
Sony is going downhill fast but so are Microsoft and Nintendo has its own set of totally fixable problems. I imagine sony wouldn't get away with any of this stuff if they were pushing 720p ports running at 30 frames like Nintendo does
Well when they killed the first and original PlayStation Studio. Sony Japan Studio and numerous of those devs left to form their own studios like Bokeh or joins other Japanese publishers and developers a few joined Nintendo. Sony essentially killed their variety of smaller to midsize IP and franchises. Now people are settling for Astro Bot.
While I like Astro Bot, I absolutely agree that killing Japan Studio was terrible. They’ve recently complained that they don’t have enough IP meanwhile they’re actively ignoring 10-20 owned IP because they aren’t AAA blockbuster movie games or live services. Not every game needs a hundred million dollar budget and a premium price tag - but they won’t listen.
Perfectly happy with the lot of games I've played on PS5 this year. There's so much variety and quality in the games available from first/third party and indies, I have no hope of ever being able to play and enjoy everything that attracts my attention.
They are trying not to depend on 3rd party so much. The 1st party bangers don’t give them the ROI they need to continue. This is only window they have to experiment.
Sony's Japan Studio was one of my all time favorite devs. They killed the studio for their western slop. Then the remnants of that studio made Slitterhead exclusively for PS5. It bombed. Sony is trash, but they've cultivated a trash player base. I WISH I could play some of the gems in PS5s library that are wasted on modern Sony fans. Hope Slitterhead comes to Steam. Can't wait for Stellarblade.
Sony got into live service games because the model was successful a few years ago. The was very likely lots of pressure from shareholders to "chase the trend." The upper executives of Sony ARE accountable to their shareholders, and I can't think of anybody from big corpo who would dare naysay live service games 3-4 years ago. If your current first party studios can't build it, get somebody who can. Concord was one such bet. To say Sony's first party game studios is no longer capable of creating great games is nonsense. Astro Bot is a whimsical and imaginative masterpiece, despite its blatant sub-purpose of advertisement. It looks great, showcases the PS5 hardware fantastically, and is fun. Lego Horizon looks follow that trend. It's easy to look at the recent failures of Sony and laugh. However, I would rather they take risks than cower in the safety of sequels and remasters. Nice clickbait thumbnail by the way.
Thing is, the PS4 wasn't the best selling console of its generation because it did something specially correct, mainly it was the best selling console of its generation because both Nintendo and Microsoft decide to saw their feet in the most painful way possible with the terrible decisions they had made for the Wii U and Xbox One, especially pricing wise considering what they were offering. This must have caused Sony to believe they were untouchable (every console manufacturer goes through this - one successful generation is all it takes for the hubris to kick in and they start believing nothing can stop them), so they decided to just do what the PS4 had done, be the most powerful console of its generation, and history will repeat itself. No need to enhance their services, listen to customers, humble themselves - customers are dumb, just move the HQ to California and let the money rain, or so they thought! So they have given themselves leeway to F around, hence where we are. How long till they find out, though?
It's funny how studios fell in love with gambling mechanics so much that they're applying it to game development now, it's like a slot machine, 20 of these games will fail then they might get a jackpot, meanwhile we're at home playing actual video games waiting for dad to come home.
Sony experimenting live servive games: 1 big hit will cover 10 losses.anyway i am planning buy ps5 pro coz xbox just announced to bring all xbox eclusive games to playstation.i do not play with PC.
Hey man, I like your content. I think you might have messed up some of your facts in this video though. The N64 objectively has better graphics than the psone. I believe it was Japan numbers that show the PS5 pro is actually outselling the PS4 pro. The PS3 outsold the 360 and the PS3 still sells new units to this day, Sony just released a statement that they are still selling new PS3s. Keep making more videos man!

You're absolutely right man. Yes and don't forget the $400 million hit Sony took for Concord. A game NO ONE asked for.

The fruck up is when thay moved their offices to America and changed their CEO to Herman Holst. PS4 was great.

How's the PS5 Pro working out? I heard it's selling a bit better than the PS4Pro atm.

Playstation is going the way of Windows and Trek Movies, the even numbers don't suck.
