This beats the shit out of any of the sorry excuse for music we have the misfortune to have to endure today.. U know what,im just glad I was a part of something so damn fucking good!! Oi Oi Punks n Skins!
my dad recommended me this song and I've been obsessed with it ever since , an amazing song and well made lyrics with a pretty relevant meaning even nowadays
Such a great song, also a young skin in the 80's. working on a YTS scheme and bought the vinyl with my crappy wages, happy days, except for the YTS scheme...
Liddle towers was a boxing coach in birtley who bullied the kids he was coaching and would get tanked up pick on weaker people than himself and picked a fight with the police outside the key club in birtley and paid the price karma
@@julianastin1651 Exactly. I’m too young to remember him but I’m from Chester/Birtley and everyone in the pubs know what he was like. A total bully who won’t be missed.
Bought this single after seeing the Upstarts playing in Old Eldon Square in Newcastle Upon Tyne way back when. Early punks, lots of police; the Upstarts kicking a pigs head with a police helmet around a scaffolding stage. got the record (b side Police Oppression) from the local HMV shop. Original issue, before Small Wonder etc were involved. I think 500 singles were pressed with PC, and I still have one!
This is punk I was lucky to be born in 62 76 on wards what a decade of music especially the PUNK era never forgotten best years o my life dicky fae the HULLTOON
Saw these a few times at the old 29 in s/land one night showaddywaddy were at the empire theatre next door. both finished about the same time they was hell on outside.....the good old days...
got arrested for a word;; my friend back in the day was asked to remove his jacket which had a dead kenedys single title written across the back can you guess,, another friend got nicked for shouting the word abuse about one hundred times at 2 cops, they cuffed his hands behind his back,, and pushed him down a flight of stairs, smashing all his front teeth ye they hated punks and skins
Mad times. Violence was everywhere from the old bill to us. I was no angel and took a whack but the law could be awful and this time they went too far. Fair play to the Upstarts, this is their greatest song..
Great song & great band, It was`nt just the North East old bill who were like this in the 70`s, Mate of mine got a pasting in the back of a meat wagon from Thames Valley`s finest in 77, his crime ? He was pissed
SpaztallicA Saw them play in Manchester, (moston miners club) last year, and i will be up in Newcastle in September. seen them live, about 20 times over the years. Massive fan of them
An electrician and a boxer, two of the most honest professions...rest in peace. Its songs like these that keep someone like me so faithful to punk rock long into my career and adulthood. Oi!
The old 29 on a saturday afternoon in Sunderland. Menz and the lads used to come on, and we got to kick a p.i.g.s head around with a rozzers hat on. We were 14........... Happy days....
It would've been an even bigger story if he had a twin brother: "who killed liddle twin towers". Great band, grew up with it. Their live album is a monument of the punk era. Will never be forgotten. Punk rules Ok
What a disturbed young man i used to be i remember in my teenage years screaming this through police station cell doors drunk and sniffing glue. On my way to dc or yc what a dickhead i was..
Remember the good old days well when the old bill would dish out a kicking at the drop of a hat. They didn't half squeal when you dished it back to them...
They started before `Oi` but Sounds journo Garry Bushell (who gave the Oi scene its name/publicity) wrote favourable articles on the band, he once said they were the most important punk since The Clash.I vaguely remember an article he wrote on the AUs in NYC where had to restrain Mensi from fighting with NY cops who had called the band `faggots ` because of their short hair which was considered very gay in NY at the time
I was only 12!!! song, But its a great shame no one ever had to account for his death, a bit like Kevin Nightingale, all Geordies will remember.....I do.....
In Huddersfield we used to smash the pub up to this tune and the punks back then had loads of scraps with the pigs. Some of the crew had serious history of assaulting police officers. It made them pigs give us a wide berth and they went after easier targets for their oppression.
The greatest has gone and the greatest has left us.

Probably the greatest punk single ever. The conviction in the vocals and fantastic guitar put this right up there.

I didn't kill him. Mind you, I don't have an alibi for that day, but I was only 2 years old.
I wasn't. I remember.
A mate of mine got arrested for singing this song walking down Chester le street front Street.
I got a kicking for singing it in a cell in Torphicen Street Police Station in 1984. Not the brightest thing a drunk Me has done.
I sing it to them every time they arrest me. The meat wagon rides are getting rougher and rougher. Takes weeks for the bruising to go. ACAC
