Terrific tutorial! Thank you for sharing your success with us in a way we can duplicate! Like you, I have several unfinished creatures in my stash room. Most because I don't like the way the head looked using the 'roll' method for felting facial features. I look forward to applying what You taught us in the video and getting those project out of the stash! LOL! Thanks!
With color you can mix a few basic tones for the skin you want and then use 2 "cat brushes" to brush/ blend the colors together to make a skin tone. Pick it out of the brush and lay it flat over the top of your base like fondant on a cake. That's how it was explained to me.

Yes I have many amount of projects all over the house . My husband always asks me why i don’t just work on one roll or project at a time. I also love to custom bjds and monster high dolls. So my many boxes of art supplies are all over our room. One day when my children are grown I will have to make myself a crafting room.
true about the mess. I needlefelt, crochet and knit almost in th same time because I have to have something in front of the tv and something when the cat's wanna be near me and something which need consentration etc :) make alot more videos :) love the video here in Denmark

That is me! I get 90% done and while working on a project I get other ideas and move on, I wish I wouldn’t do that!! At least I’m not alone 😉
My desk is a disaster! LOL! I have probably 15 unfinished projects floating around my house... but I really do try very hard to finish one before starting another.
I make faces this way as well, I do not enjoy rolling separate pieces and felting them on unless I have to.

I like how you are pretty much drawing with a needle .... All the other videos you make the noses separately..and then tack them on the face . This seems a lot easier .... Draw it and add the color ....
It almost looks like you're working with sponge then coverage with roving. What are you using for your base?
Can you some how give me an idea to how firm you have the face or ball before you start making the face just something to compare to?

We all sound a little different when we are recorded. I'm sure it bugs you more than it would anybody else. Plus I'm just thrilled to put out videos in English! I've watched and struggled to translate so many videos in Russian and Japanese I can't even begin to estimate the hours!

practice definitely makes perfect. At first, when you are doing something as complex as a face, it helps to make a really large one....like my Charlie face you see there. I was just learning when I made that one and it's very close to the actual size of his face, so it was easier to understand the proportions....I could just measure him. Also, look on pediatric medical websites if you are trying to make a child's face. It's insane how different their proportions are as they age. I mean, the placement of their features is nothing like that of an adult face, "golden ratio" type of thing. Another tip....turn your work upside down and work from the bottom of the jaw. It's amazing how much that will help shape the face.
Can you draw or paint portraits? Just wondering bc I can draw & paint fairly well but not realistic people. This on the other hand seems like it would be easier than drawing bc it's 3D.. With me, the reason I have a hard tine drawing faces is bc it's a flat surface & i struggle making objects (specifically faces) stand out.. Just ends up looking all flat, no depth or anything.. As with 3d needling, you're able to actually make depth, make things pop out (not just be flat)...idk if I worded all that right. Sounds better in my head

So, I just found this today...but I see you started this over a year ago. Did you do further sculpting videos?
I have a few. All of my needle felting videos are in a play list together. I started out needle felting, but then fell in love with wet felting. Lately I've been doing much more spinning and knitting for myself, but since there are so many videos in that area I haven't made any of that activity, also, my sculptures tend to be very long projects that take months to finish, which don't really lend themselves to quick videos.

great tutorial❣, do you sometimes add wool 'pillows' or tiny 'rolls' for cheeks or something like that? And what size needle are you initially using?
I never do actually. I do often have to build up my foreheads, especially if I'm doing a young child's face, but I don't do anything to my wool before I place it. I just use a standard size 36 all purpose needle for everything. I ordered some really fine ones once for my smaller pieces, but honestly, I couldn't tell a difference. It's really the quality of the wool that determines the fineness of features that you can obtain (in my experience) not the gauge of the needle.
Just starting felting and this is the first place I landed to start learning faces. But, I knit too and I love that sweater your wearing. Did you make that? If so...what was the basic pattern you followed and roughly the kind yarn. I'm subbing to your channel for the felting info. But I really like that "medieval" style to your...smock or sweater or whatever it is.
Yes, I did make the sweater. They key with that sweater (in terms of the look) is that I spun the yarn. It's alpaca yarn, spun uncarded, from "the cloud" and from the ends of each lock, so I intentionally made it "fuzzy" yarn. I created the pattern. It's basically just one large rectangle for the back in basic knit stitch and two more rectangles (also basic knit stitch), but placed on my mannequin at an angle, to create a point at the front. So if you can imagine, when I placed it on the mannequin, I placed the top corner of the rectangle over the shoulder and let the other upper corner drape down toward the neckline. I crochet the garment pieces together and then I finished the neckline with crochet, increasing by two stitches as on each row to create that ruffle. The sleeves are just a raglan sleeve. I have a video on how I start all of my sweaters - "how to design a sweater" - I just have to finish the last video in that series on making sleeves - coming in the next few days. I hope that helps. Yes...more on the sweater would be great. I commented on the sweater before I watched through your channel and seen the "sweater" series. It actually is the " sleeves" I think is what threw me. I can see the garner stitch here and there, but it's the "dropped stitch" look that I didn't get (?).
Well, the dropped stitches are actually dropped stitches due to the fact that I made this very soon after learning to knit. So, those are mistakes that I just let go. I do that sort of thing. I don't try to be perfect, I just embrace it. It also might be throwing you a bit because I used "singles" meaning, it's yarn that is not plied. That also gives it kind of a . rustic look

Fab video I've just started felting and was intrigued by your method. You say buy a good quality needle but the thing is there are so many needles out there and you have to waste ££££s on ones that you think are good cos of the price but in fact they are over priced rubbish. Please could you say which make you use.
I always buy mine in bulk (because I teach large classes from time to time) from www.weircrafts.com/needle-felting/needle-felting.html. I usually give beginners a size 38 star point needle. It's a really good general needle. Everything I did in that video used just that one type.

I'm no longer on FB. I'm not doing anything with my WoolEnvy Business anymore, but I still get lots of visitors on my RUclips channel so I keep the videos up. Maybe when my kids get older or I find more time I'll make more videos, but right now I'm busy homeschooling and making tons of stuff from scratch. Right now I've got some sourdough proofing and I'm about to make ginger beer with my successfully fermented ginger bug. I'm kind of into natural fermentation right now :) Have fun with your felting!

It's wool batting that is excellent for felting. I buy it in bulk from a wool mill back east (US). Lindsey Wool. It's not fine, like merino, not super coarse
