I was 21 when this song represented the UK at the 1982 Eurovision. Sally Ann is fantastic. It was a great year all round and this is in my top 3 favourite UK Eurovision songs. Just missed topping the UK singles chart. I later went on to see Sally Ann in the West End performing as Donna in Mamma Mia. Superb talent.
I saw the 1982 Song for Europe contest. I didn’t like the song at first (My Mum liked it) but I grew to like it after hearing it on the radio. I missed the 1982 Eurovision Contest because Mum, Dad and I moved to Hong Kong before the Contest took place, so I didn’t see Bardo perform in the Contest. Never mind. This is great reminder of a brilliant song.
I love this song everytime I hear it and it is on several of my playlists. I saw a re run of Bucks Fizz Eurovision performance and that wasn’t good and I cringed watching that back but still won then why didn’t this do better?
This would have won except Britain had just engaged in fighting the Falklands war, most other countries were not happy about this and punished us the only way they could.
Remember this when I was at school. Sally Ann was lovely, such a catchy tune. There was this one, See You by Depeche Mode and Ever So Lonely by Monsoon. They take me straight back. But the Falklands War was really developing, the Task Force had just set sail a week or so before, so quite a dramatic time news wise.
Just checked and it was actually Ebony and Ivory. Nicole sort of stopped them from winning Eurovision though, although they were in 7th place not 2nd place. ruclips.net/video/PgYfu2NY5Z4/видео.html
Was this offered to Bucks Fizz, not sure he wrote it but I think Andy Hill had a hand in the production and I saw a demo version with backing vocals from Mike & Bobby. Odd that Sally Ann started as a presenter on Crackerjack before Bardo, whereas Cheryl moved into kids telly when Bucks Fizz’s popularity began to decline.
One Step Further was written by Simon Jefferies, while he was a member of a band called The Step. The band demoed a copy of the song before it was offered to Bucks Fizz by Simon. Andy Hill then got involved and, I believe, was the producer of this final version made for Eurovision.
Neil Tennant of pet shop boys fame tipped that to win while at smash hits also said they would find worldwidestardom. If it were based on looks we would of won it on looks with Sally Ann she was gorgeous in my eyes at 14 going on nearly 15 but in crackerjack at the time I had a soft spot for Leigh Miles more.
OMG Still love this. As a 10 yr old i still remember getting this single and kept playing it over and over again. Happy times
that is my story.
better times
The best UK Eurovision entry bar none ever Perfect pop.
Honestly - as a 60 year old music snob - this could be an Elvis Costello tune. Perfect pop.

I was 11 at the time watching top of the pops and had a crush on Sally Ann still beautiful gorgeous 😍❤️
A favourite UK Eurovision entry. The key change is mighty; it really lifts the song.
Brings back memories of jumping up and down on the bed singing into hairbrush with my childhood friend. Gorgeous singers.
Memories I was like around 10 when this song was around! Brilliant song
Teenage memories of Sally Ann's knickers .........
i still do
And weren't they lovely to see.
So virginal in white!!!
Look a bit gungy to me.. but then if her brother been playing around with em.. 😂
@@davrov8610 sure was i fancied her like mad at the time
@@Mazzy-b4v don't blame him lol
I always loved those microphones.. and always loved this song. ❤️
Gated drums and fretless bass! Oh how we love the 80"s!
Pino Palladino. The master.
I was in my last year of junior school when this song was in the charts ….cherished childhood memories 😊

The orchestral Eurovision version was decent but not as good as the synth recording.
What a classic from 1982. They should have won with this .42 years on still sounds fresh
Never mind Sally Ann, why no mention of what a stunning lad Stephen Fischer was. Those eyes! 😍
She weren't too bad through the eyes of a 14 year old
@@adrianwilliams469 fuck him look at her
With Sally there he like the invisible Man, sorry.
Leather pants as well which must've rubbed off as I got older.
@@twissem6414 Absolutely, I've never even glanced at the bloke! Think Ken is the typical Eurovision fan!

Loved Sally Ann as a 12 year old. Still quite like her now!
Same lol
No change last i seen
Same here. She was also on Crackerjack for quite a while
Here she is today: ruclips.net/video/RgjpmWho2OY/видео.html
Still listening and loving this song.🤗🤗🤗
I remember being a 4 year old hearing this at my primary school summer party
incredible memories. Upper 6th. bring back 82
This was Sally Ann's 20th birthday, although the show was probably recorded the previous day.
God she was fit ....
As early 80s pop songs go, I think this is pretty good. It does seem to be good Eurovision material.
God, I used to love this. Fond memories of my then 8 year old self dancing round the lounge to this song, hairbrush in hand!!!
An underrated Eurovision classic
Peter Kay's carshare 😍
Indeed, great show, Great music on forever FM :)

Best British Eurovision song that never won it 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Their actual live performance at Eurovision in Harrogate was pretty abysmal
@@robintripp8164 "The only way they could"! Hahhaha.... a black mark in the Eurovision...hahaha.
still making sense in 2022
Just replace the line ‘if you read my letters or my telegrams’ with something about WhatsApp or Instagram 😂
ONG l love this song❤️❤️❤️❤️
The beginning of the end almost, nice knickers 👍😉
An early crush who I am proud to say I got to work with last month!! Dreams can come true!
Don't keep us in suspense - what was she like to work with?!
Yeh yeh… that hasnt happened.. like farmer 😂😂😂😂
She's very pretty
And so his he.
Especially in his leather jeans 😋
We so ooooooo need this again in Eurovision ,this was a time when the song mattered and not the politics of countries 😞😞😞
That's loser speak
Great song
Sadly never saw Eurovision song contest that years when they lost
Craig Fairbrass at the start next to David Jensen.
Ah, the days when we did well at Eurovision. This finished fifth I think. No one votes for us now.
Hold my beer (until 2022)

Always makes me laugh when Sally Ann sings “ ain’t got the courage to speak…” whilst flinging her leg up into his hand!
I wish she would still do her hair like that now.
Sally Ann is so sexy❤
I just can't forget you just like that when I was a kid the girl I wanted
might be wrong but think nicole also stopped them getting to no 1

beaten by lovely wee nicole from germany
Car share brought me here x
Whatever became of these two?
Sally was an actress by training, so she did TV and stuff.
Sally is a big west end performer still.
I cringe when they say tooken one step further at the end 🙄

Back when the Eurovision...was an actual Big Event Every Year....Must Watch Telly
It's Been unwatchable Lately ...say last 15 to 20 yrs actually Krap

Hotly tipped to do really well in the ESC, but was beaten by arguably one of the best ever winners in the sweet Nicole of W.Germany

Letters and Telegrams? My times have changed..

Deserved to do better in the Contest. Excellent use of the word "tooken" as well although it never caught on. LOL
Q-Feel lost to this? What a shame!!!
My first flat. Just moved on and bought beetsmax video
Hmmmmm
I think Dollar - at the time of release back in the day - would have made it more convincing. Not a bad song, Sally Anne was energetic
Dollar are excellent.
Actually I could imagine Dollar singing this now, especially in their Trevor Horn era of 1981-82 when at their best
@@Redsleather The Dollar Album is superb from start to finish.
