I found a Thai pink lipstick plant over the wknd and I was so excited! I now have 6 varieties of lipstick plants, and I’m hoping the Thai pink is as easy care as the others.

I found a Mandula and Neon Pothos at our local Lowe’s today in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Yes, I am so surprised to find such good plants and well kept at a big box store but I heard that Lowe’s has a good selection.
It was an eye opener to know that your friend found some spider mites on some Monstera Siltepicana. (Do you think they are prone to spider mites?)
She has a good eye. I think I will bring my magnifying glass when I go shopping again for plants!
On a lighter side, it was cute to watch my husband help me carry the plants.🤭
Thank you for your videos. They are very informative!

Echoing the others with the burro's tail/donkey's tail at 6:01. I got one for one of my very first plants. They are pretty chill watering needs-wise, but if they don't get a *ton* of sun, the little nubbies will fall off at the slightest touch. You can always propagate those, but it can still be frustrating.

    5:42 burro's tail.
Snagged a lone siltepecana at my local garden center here in the UK. Was really surprised to find it. It's beautiful.

I agree! They are so beautiful. I wish they didn’t have the spider mites

Home Depot locations in Chicago have Philo's White Knight and Pink Princess from Costa Trending Tropicals -- most pots had two plants of the same type of Philo.
Also Philo Mayoi with very large leaves from the Proven Winners houseplant collection.

Those Monstera siltepecana are likely attracting bugs because of a whole chain of events- Most of Lowe’s hanging plants are sold in self-watering pots, which isn’t bad; its a good thing, but it’s only good if the person watering knows what they’re doing! Lol! And, as we know, store employees just water everyday cause they’re told to. Or bc they think it’s necessary, without even checking the soil moisture level. I bet the yellowing, spotted leaves are from excess water, which causes the plant’s health to decline, and then mites are attracted to the struggling & vulnerable plant. 😞

Honestly, I think it's the whole crop at the costa farms nursery. A girl in my local Facebook plant group found one at Kroger a few weeks ago, spider mites. Another RUclipsr found one at Lowes in her plant shopping video about a week or two ago.... had spider mites. Now, SHE finds one at her local Lowes that also has spider mites. I think Costa's greenhouse that houses the siltepecana has a problem if 3 different people in 3 different locations found siltepecana hanging baskets with spider mites. 😱🤔

Monstera siltepecana is a spider mite magnet in my opinion. I had two before and I got them pest free. Guess what, both of them got spidermites later and I got rid of them

I wanted to get the Siltepecana but people keep finding them with pests :/

    • @erikm8372
      @erikm8372 Год назад

Yeah, me too, but I think it’s okay if you do a few things. Definitely keep it far from other plants, at least, ones you care about or that are expensive, lol. Spray it with rubbing alcohol and rinse off a few times. For the soil, just flush the pot with hydrogen peroxide, then again with distilled water to clear the peroxide.
Then, for long-term protection, sprinkle the houseplant systemic from Bonide (brand). It’s actually called Bonide Systemic Houseplant Insect Control. An average size bottle is $9.99 usually, but they have bigger ones. It’s a totally safe insecticide, as it doesn’t damage water reservoirs through draining or runoff, and won’t kill humans or animals, etc. It’s the best. You just sprinkle it every three months on the top of the soil, water, and there are no gnats, mites, aphids, mealies, scale, thrips, etc. NOTHING. It’s the only miracle pesticide I’ve ever experienced or found! I dont know why it isn’t promoted more often!

Every RUclipsr who has found a Siltepecana has also found spider mites. So sad!!!

Someone in my local Facebook plant group found one with spider mites about 3-4 weeks ago. Thought it was a fluke until a couple RUclipsrs found them with mites in their plant shopping videos. I've been wanting a siltepecana, but i think I'll stay away for a while. 😱

I think similar to alocasia (had mine for like a year before it took hold and it was relentless despite all of my pest management strategies) I think some plants are more prone to it than others sadly

Agree with you Kate! In my opinion, sitelepecana is a spidermite magnet. 😭
