Some people are hypocrites, they think their meat comes from thin air; they don't want to see blood and butchering, but they eat animals without any problem. I enjoyed that video a lot, I liked the process and I learnt a lot! You are meticulous, and explained every step wonderfully. I am sorry some people got offended by something as normal and natural as the butchering of a sheep. Anyway, lots of love from Romania and I am excited whenever I get the notification of a new video. Take care of yourselves!

You come across as very unsure or perhaps it's humble. I like how you let your son learn by being with you and helping. In our busy western lives we seem to say no. Or go play. I watch aan Iranian nomad family and all the children are under their feet but they are all helping. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Come from Czechia there butchering is a tradition and my family used to butcher a pig every february.I was present to these events since I was very little.I could help with the blood to sausages or eat the warm cooked meat.Nowadays I’m mostly vegetarian but I think it’s a part of life and kids need to know how food comes on their plates.I choosed to not watch the butchering video and I think that everyone can choose to watch or not to watch🤷🏽‍♀️

I used to find it difficult years ago, but I find it quite fascinating and informative now. It really brings home just how detatched we all are from real life and our food. We would all be totally comfortable with butchery if we were not kept as slaves by our ruling elites, working meaningless jobs to earn equally useless money.

I live on a tropical island in Indonesia and will never have to butcher a sheep, but I still found it very interesting. I also loved the birth video of Ivar. If people don't want to see those realities of life and death and butchering to provide food well don't watch it. Keep guys doing what you are doing. I love your channel and Merry Christmas to the 3 of you xx

I love all your videos. Watching your wife give birth was amazing, so natural, she allowed her body to do what its meant to do....the two of you amaze me. We hunt, fish and eat and use all of the animal, we honor it, and we who live in reality know that it's the most nutrient dense food. People are sick today and obese because they eat junk and hardly any meat. The world needs to wake up.

I am a senior from E. TN, Appalachian Mtns, U.S. We would refer to the snow tool as a snow sled. It is a little smaller than the sleds used here for moving things like hay, rocks and lumber, usually in wet boggy places where wheels would mar up into the mud. Lumbering by horses and mules is part of our culture. Sleds are also used in pulling horse competition. They are loaded with weights, attached to the horses, and on signal they begin pulling the sleds. The one who endures the farthest wins. Canning is also a large part of our culture. The "Ball Canning" books are the best, tried and true. I'm not sure if they print in anything but English, but they're very straight forward and easy read. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful lives. Peace and love to your family this "Yule" season. ✌ 💚❤️

I appreciate both your birth video and butchering videos. The notion of Americans not thinking about death and even on some occasions birth, is not surprising to me, an American for the last 65 years. Americans generally want to 'sanitize' and institutionalize practices around birth and death. Births in the U.S. are mostly in a hospital setting where sickness is quartered, so birth is not considered a natural process but a problem to be solved by medical procedures and professionals. Death and the funeral institution and hospitals often separate the processes the end of life experience as some how distasteful and unnatural, when in reality, we Americans are the ones creating taboos around both processes, speaking in hushed voices away from the light of day or reason. Your presentation of birth and butchering for food and other uses is so refreshing to me. Yet, knowing that you might have both birthing and butchering videos de-monitized didn't stop you from sharing with your viewers. Thank you so very much!

This is my second time watching your channel. I am Swedish on my father's side. We farmed here in California as I grew up. We had pigs, cows, and chickens and grew vegetables. Seeing you out in winter reminds me of the stories my father told me. His family is from Tving, but he grew up on a farm in upstate New York, also off grid. They harvested ice and sold it in the 1930s. They would store it in the barn covered with sawdust. You might try making an icebox to store your food. I'm not sure how long it could last, but maybe it would help when it starts to warm up.
    I really enjoy your posts.

Hi! I live in Northern Ontario where the Finnish culture thrives. The city of Thunder Bay has the most Fnnish speaking people in all of North America. Where I live now in the country (In the hills), many of our areas all have Finnish names. Kivikoski, Lappe, Upsala, Koivu, Toimela, and so on. We have here exactly the same weather and landscape as Finland (and Sweden). That is why so many people settled here. Even those of us who aren't finnish or scandanavian, we have the culture in our blood now. Many of us eat the same foods, sauna, ice fish, cross country ski and enjoy the winter activities. All thanks to the settlers. 💖

Lovely video… we have that type of shovel in snowy Canada, sometimes called sleigh shovels, you can do a very long driveway with them and such good exercise, no lifting needed. A light child’s chair can help with learning to skate, you keep it in front and the child can stand up holding the back rest part to give some support and slowly push it forward…. And sit to rest - hard work learning to skate and teaching!

Nice to see Ivar taking his own initiatives by himself!!! (go and get the shovel and more). He really grew a lot this summer: top of his head is reaching your waste! He is also really helping you now... a true assistant!
Here in Canada, they call it a "sleigh shovel" and it is current to have them here in all hardware shops. Don't worry, I too forgot the Ste-Lucie festive light ceremony! Very nice idea this live video...👌💖🎄💫
ps... When my nose is clogged, I put hot water in a bowl or pan, add some drops of eucalyptus/Ravintsara HE, put a towel over my head and my head over this bowl, inhaling ... clearing guarantied!👌🤧
Now that I see that your lake has deep ice, you could have your freezer, old time style: a whole in the ground, one part with blocs of ice mixed with sawdust and a metal container surrounded by those ice where you put your food to freeze... keeps long underground because everything is frozen and the ice melts slowly in spring (sawdust)... Hunting/fishing game owner was my cousin!

Can find the snow thingy in Russia too, anywhere where there’s lots of snow. It is very good ❤ there is no word in English because there is no snow here 😂
Father and son relationship is so beautiful. As a mother I have this in my family and it’s the best thing to watch

I just bought 2 snöskottar here in northern Minnesota. We have many of them in my community of Grand Marais on Lake Superior. Perhaps since we also have so many Scandinavian people in our heritage 😊

Ivor Is such a cutie! I live on the Canadian Prairies (lots of snow) We use the same snow removal tools, we call the big one a snow scoop and the smaller one a shovel. God Jul!

    9:39 snow scoop
Once people pull those out, the snow blower is right next.
I use an aluminum coal shovel. It’s between a snow shovel and a scoop.

The snoskotta is available in Canada, we call them sleigh shovel, sleigh snow shovel or pusher scoops. Very good for moving large chunks of ice that gets put in driveways from road plows.

That was such a beautiful video. I remember the first time I watched your video and it was of you skating with your son I live in Canada and did a lot of skating in my day but now I am 74 and because of a few falls I can’t skate anymore, one thing I was wondering how do you keep your feet warm that was my worst when I was skating. My dad used to build an ice rink in our backyard and we would skate all winter but now the winters are so mild that we don’t do that anymore, but my dad also would make a whole pile of pancakes. We would eat after we went skating. I wanted to mention you about the snow shovel as I grew older and harder to push the snow away. We had a snow shovel that looked just like yours. It was kind of a push one because people often end up with heart attacks when they push snow, we would buy them at Canadian tire. That is a good store for us. Canadians. I really enjoy watching your videos and I wish you and your family a very blessed Christmas greetings from southwestern Ontario.

Sorry to hear that you were under the weather. I hope you are all feeling better soon. I loved seeing Ivars first time skating. He's such a delight 😊. Ignore those who judge and don't want to look at or hear about other ways of living. I don't get it. Just wondering if you might consider a topic of discussion called " thinking outside the box". Sometimes I think people need to do that a little bit more 😊. Love to you all❤️
