Man, this was a life saver video for me and saved me 1k! Thank you! I bought 2022 Spectral (eternal blue) and I was stoked! And then I saw a video with someone ranting and raving about the torque compared to the spectral and I had a pit in my stomach - thinking I made a wrong decision. But after hearing you talk about both - I was like whew. I’m getting the older model (new) - so it doesn’t have as much travel - I can always upgrade down the road if I need to. I love to climb more than descend and I love trails and going distance. I’m not a bike park guy - jumps and going like a cheetah down the mountain. Sounds like I made the right decision thanks to this video. Whew! I hear a lot about pedal strikes on both - I hope my version has the front 29 and 27.5 back. Thanks again for the insight!! Anything I should be aware of - all ears. My terrain is big roots - minor rocks - northeast / New England
Put a spotlight on everything I wanted to know. You've obviously spent some time on both of these and don't just compare spec sheets. Very helpful video! Thanks!
Great Video Alex, I have just bought a Spectral CF8 in the Canyon Spring Trail Sale, £1000 off RRP so couldnt resist. Havent ridden yet as the weather in the UK has been shocking. Have test ridden previously and loved the bike. I had a Canyon Neuron ON last year and loved that bike. Less travel but perfect for singletrack rides and was a very good trail based bike. Sold it in the Winter and put the money towards the new Spectral. I think Canyon build great bikes for the money and I was happy to buy direct again. Excellent build quality and spec with great riding capability. I personally love the EP8 despite the negative press it seems to get. Looking forward to a summer of rides on my Spectral.
Thanks Alex. Have had a Spectral:On CF9 for a year now with a 720wh battery. Have flattened it fairly easily. this is interesting on range as I quite often leave it in eco but am fairly fit so keep the cadence high - seems to cane the battery just as much! A mate bought one at the same time though and his battery seems to give 40% more. Maybe I got a dud battery? Anyway, the bike absolutely rips, love it!
What's your weight compared to his? both same or? I doubt it's a dud, but i would swap batteries for a ride see if its the battery or the motor ride method, see if with his battery you have same range? Both good bikes yes, hopefully helps my experience to help people decide...
@alexbiketester I am about 10kg heavier, on a similar ride he is mainly in Boost when I am in eco. I will still be going faster though due to fitness. Good suggestion on swapping the batteries. Will try that. Otherwise, I ride in the UK, mainly Surrey Hills and Forest of Dean so it's perfect for that. Super capable and agile, way more than my old enduro bike was.
Personally, I would buy the Torque ON right away if only it had a bigger battery, regardless of the fact that I ride the bike a lot as Trail, in the mountains, and as for the other Spectral On bike, I'm sorry that they don't have them with the size of 27.5 wheels, so that the choice of bicycle does not suit me at all because I do not want to buy a single bicycle with wheels of size 29. To ride a bicycle with wheel size 29 you must be at least 1m and 85 cm tall and the frame must be of L size so that you and the bicycle look normal. Since I live in Germany, that is, I work here, two days ago I received an email from Canyon that Torque ON 9 will no longer be produced and will not be available for purchase. So I have to look for other bikes like STEREO HYBRID 160 HPC ACTIONTEAM 750 27.5 I forgot to write something else. Yesterday I was on the phone with the Canyon company and I asked them about the spectral on if I could get it with a wheel size of 27.5. They told me that if I do it on my own, I no longer have any guarantees on the bike because they they no longer guarantee if something happens because the engine is not made for that wheel, nor the bicycle chassis itself, nor the stability of the bicycle itself. 😢
I did a back to back over the weekend and the canyon is definitely faster on the climb but slower on the down and feels heavier over jumps. Overall I think I'll keep riding the yt

No worries! Spectral ON is an epic bike.

Excellent and super helpful video! Thank you! Definitely helped in my decision making. :)

Sounds great, honestly the Spectral has been an awesome reliable bike.
Loving my CF-8 and climb everything in ECO! Range on my 740wh batt is amazing.

You need to do the same with the new Torque.
I Will see what I can do.
All these reviews do the range in meters why can’t they do them in kilometers or miles apart from that good review.
ask siri for the conversion..... in the next one i will do both, i know both, metres though is the brand quoted one generally. unless a us brand.
this is a great video

There is some new stuff coming, wait a few weeks before making a decision.

I like the sound of the Spectral but I’m concerned about the EP8, what’s your experience?
The EP8 is a good motor, i've had zero problems, its not the same type of power/feels as the Bosch even though the numbers for them are the same.
@@alexbiketester Thanks Alex
Don't buy either. Buy a YT instead. Better bike, better company. Canyon sucks.
Yet to try the YT, will be interesting to do a back to back.
I have both the 2023spectral on cf8 and the Decoy, I feel that the Decoy is a better bike, both climbing and descending feels a lot more planted.
