How Bad is America's LOW COST BUS Service? Flixbus | Los Angeles - San Diego

  • Welcome to another video! A few months ago I took a trip on America's relatively new low cost intercity bus service, Flixbus from Los Angeles to San Diego, California. Flixbus is a German bus brand who joined the North American market in 2018 with the goal of offering affordable bus service between major cities. They don't actually own any of the vehicles, and instead contract with various bus companies who operate the Flixbus branded services. My trip from LA to San Diego was both incredibly interesting and also very disappointing. Come along with me as we try out Flixbus, or what I like to refer to as "America's Low Cost Bus Lottery" since you never know which bus you'll get!
    Enjoy the video!

Flixbus now owns Greyhound (the used to be biggest bus company in the USA)!

So is Greyhound going to disappear or will the brand survive?

Greyhound driver speech: no smoking in the washroom and no alcohol on bus, if you have headphones, keep volume down as not to disturb others, our next rest break is 1 hour and 10 mins away! 😎

@@kennethstein8394, the brand still exists in the USA, but here in Canada, the Canadian division of Greyhound, Greyhound Canada, folded up operations two/three years ago.

You have to keep in mind that Flixbus is 100% contractor operated. There isn't a tight grasp on individual contractors. The missing panel on the bus in the opening of your video is a perfect example of what SHOULD NOT be on the road.

*ALWAYS* comforting to see a bail bonds agency nearby while waiting by yourself, especially at night! 👍

I so agree about not seeing out the windows on wrapped buses! Folks who are into the wrapped buses must only look at them from the outside. I would never want to ride from LA to SD on a wrapped bus.

Someone did a review of a wrapped train and many were commenting about not liking the wrap because of the lack of view from inside, but someone said that it helps block out the sun, thus keeping it cooler inside ?

I remember having to come back home in an Uber because my bus transfer already left because the driver that took me to the transfer was 20 minutes late

I took a greyhound bus home and waited for my bus in Portland. The bus was about an hour or 2 late and we were told that we missed our transfer and if we got on the bus we would be stranded but I went anyway because at least I would be closer to home and just got a uber to my grandpa's house and had him drive me home the next day

If you have a choice between taking a Flixbus or walking to Las Vegas from Los Angeles, I recommend walking. From beginning to end my Flixbus ride from Los Angeles to Las Vegas was so horrible, uncomfortable, confusing, and frustrating that my family rented a car to get back home instead of using the rest of our Flixbus tickets. For the first leg of our trip from Los Angeles to San Bernadino Flixbus DIDN'T even tell us we were put on a Greyhound, which was on seats that were so slippery you couldn't even sit up straight. And the entire time someone decided to share their music with the nastiest lyrics I've ever heard at full volume. The ride was bumpy and uncomfortable, but it was like a starting appetizer of terrible before the main course of awful that is Flixbus. Once we changed at San Bernandino to our actual Flixbus things only got worse. For one, our Flixbus driver was beyond impossible to work with. We showed him our tickets several times proving that this was our bus and he still insisted we were incorrect (EVEN THOUGH HE WAS ABLE TO SCAN US IN) he almost left us there but then just told us to get on. We confirmed with Customer Service on the bus that we in fact were correct and on the right bus. We selected reserved seats in advance on Flixbus when we booked the tickets, but neither bus let us sit in our reserved seats. This ride was worse than Greyhound. Seats that are half the space of any seat on Spirit Airlines, the bus had a strange smell, air conditioning at full blast until my hands turned blue, and another rider decided all of us should be forced to listen to his Call of Duty game at full volume the entire ride. I would have been more comfortable being stored with the luggage below. I wish I read any reviews beforehand, on any given review site it's nothing higher than a 1. HOW IS THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY STILL IN BUSINESS. We didn't even use our return trip because it was so awful. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. HORRIBLE. MISERABLE. UNCOMFORTABLE. RUDE DRIVER.

Flixbus is a bloody joke. I gave them a terrible review on trip advisor, and I wasn't the only one not even close. Get a load of this foolishness. On route 2605 from New York to Charlottesville, Virginia, the bus stops in Richmond, Virginia. Passengers from Washington DC and further north are allowed to get off, but no new passengers are allowed to board. In the other direction, passengers coming from Charlottesville must remain on board all the way to Washington DC, but new passengers are allowed to board in Richmond. Passengers from Charlottesville must ride all the way to Washington DC and catch another bus back to Richmond. There is another bus between Charlottesville and Richmond it leaves very early in the morning. Most buses into Richmond arrive too late to allow transfers to this bus. Flixbus expects passengers to either race to Washington DC and hope they get there in time to catch the bus back to Charlottesville or wait in Richmond for up to 24 hours for the next bus. This problem could easily be solved if they just let people get on the afternoon bus in Richmond. This doesn't make any sense. Lots of people get off the bus in Richmond. There are no more stops before or after Charlottesville. Richmond is the last chance to sell those seats. A great many people want to buy tickets between Charlottesville and Richmond, so why not let them do it? Going the other way, if they let passengers off the bus in Richmond, they would have more empty seats they could sell to fresh passengers going to DC and beyond. People would absolutely buy those tickets. What they are doing is completely ridiculous. Seriously, Flixbus fix this. By the way, I'm sure there are other Flixbus routes with similar problems. Megabus is aware of Flixbus's blunder, and maybe they will decide to start a new service between the two cities eventually. Of course, I'm sure it takes several years to plan out the new route, get all the necessary permits and insurance, and train and qualify drivers on the new route. If Flixbus doesn't fix this, eventually Megabus might decide to fix it for them. So many people want to travel between Richmond and Charlottesville. Virginia wants to run a commuter train between the two cities. Unfortunately, the railroad that owns the tracks won't allow Virginia to operate passenger trains on its tracks. I highly doubt this will ever happen. Flixbus is throwing away a fortune here. Seriously, Flixbus, what are you doing?

"bad" is too short a word. need to 3nhance it with expletiive!
the buses belong to different companies ( Four Seasons Travel, Luxury Coach ) scamming under the F*Bus name. then F*Bus continues the scam. it's a scam becoz they mistreat riders without just compensation.

Typical Flixbus non union driver and a crappy unmarked old MCI piece of garbage. Flixbus has purchased Greyhound in order to drive them out of business. Flixbus does not like having union drivers.

Former USMC. I traveled in the past it was ok. I like the assigned seats. But the BUS STATION IN TAMPA, FL IS UNDER A BRIDGE. Bus drivers that stopped there didn't give a SHI* about answering costumer's questions. That's what our money is worth and our value and our safety. I took a trip to Knoxville TN. In Atlanta our trip was canceled after being there 9 hours with bus 0105 canceled 2xs. They offered a Voucher or Reassigned your route for another time. HOW convenient as a smart A** remark. NEVER AGAIN SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TAKE A SAFER ROUTE.
