Thank you so much for your Videos. I am currently studying Sinology in germany and i am studying for my History exams about the early Dynasties of China. Your podcasts really help a lot. Very well structured, very informative. Keep up the work :)
Thanks Hugo...I'm glad these come in handy. This one on the Western Zhou is from a long time ago when I first started this program. Over 200 episodes for you....Enjoy! And good luck in the World Cup!!!
Thank you for listening to this old episode I recorded back in September 2010. This was the 16th episode I published on The China History Podcast. In several hours I will publish my 300th episode.
So how is it that the emperor had emperor status if China was still in a state of struggle for control over who would ultimately rule? I don't get it. I thought that emperor status was a power gained because the ruler has conquered and managed to keep control through undefeatable military power against any oppossition, having defeated and removing all warlords and waring states. Can you or anyone explain? Is it that he just established a capital, or so called capital and claimed himself emperor without really bothering to wipe out the threat from other war lords and everyone just went along with it with no officialality behind it. like, "yea yea, your emperor", perhaps because he was more powerful than them military wise?
Emeperor in name only. But the other states that supposed to pledge loyalty to the emperor only paid lip service, and have outgrown and become stronger than the “emperor”?
