  • With a powerful opening scene that depicts the mob boss as a formidable and intimidating figure. The film explores the contrast between the old world and the new world, where traditional family values clash with the changes brought on by World War II. We also see the differences between Michael's life in the old country and his life in America, as symbolized by the women in his life. The Godfather is a timeless classic that delves into the complexities of family, loyalty, and tradition, and this video is a must-watch for anyone who wants to appreciate the depth and nuance of Coppola's masterful direction.

Very nice! In the book we do see Michael trying to earn Kay’s parents approval for marriage. He wants to remove and change his Corleone family name for Kay which is in contrast to him flaunting the Corleone name, power and influence to get Apollonia’s father’s permission.
Your video explains why he never would’ve allowed Kay to divorce or separate from him. It would defeat the entire purpose of Michael’s evil criminal actions on top of reflecting poorly on Michael’s masculinity, his need to control, plus divorce was very taboo then. According to him, Kay and the kids are his purpose for violence and he cannot keep telling himself that if she leaves with the kids. Remember how he brought up his wife and kids while yelling at Pentangeli? I guess that’s why Kay revealed the abortion.

After the murder attempt, I believe she began to worry about her kids and her self so she opened her eyes to see that all Michael was giving her was false promises, leading her to step in while everyone was too scared to even speak with him, and they gave us a great scene i always liked to watch Kay & Michael even in GF3.

Apollonia would've knew what to say and not to say Kay said anything even though it was Mike's fault she knew what she knew about the family. I think that's what he loved about Kay in the beginning she was smart and outspoken but later on he couldn't like it because of the position he was in.

What indication in the book or the movie do you have of any of that? Did Appolonia even have any meaningful dialogue with Michael beyond him basically bargaining with her father for her?

It might be noted that Michael in the Old country wasn't proficient enough to converse with Appolonia's father (transacting business) in Sicilian. Michael in New York when meeting with Sollozo couldn't adequately converse in Sicilian.
No doubt from their childhood, Vito's children would have been familiar with their parents' first language, but being American born, in this case, Michael's language of choice was English.

I guess the way he shot it ? Coppola besides being a great director could have been a great talent scout. So many of his films cast unknowns into stardom & name recognition. Notably al Pacino & Diane Keaton. He put mickey Rourke on the map w/ rumble fish. I know he had a scene stealing part in body heat but he got really well known from working in a Coppola film. He also " discovered " his sister Talia who was awesome in rocky & his brother August son nic cage for Peggy Sue got married which also featured a young Jim Carrey Joan Allen & in a very small part Helen hunt. Look at all the young talent in outsiders. Off the top of my head Diane lane, Tom cruise , Ralph maccio in a pre karate kid part , Patrick Swayze before he rose to stardom in dirty dancing & a few others. He probably hired Emilio Estevez after working w/ his dad in apocalypse now. In that film he discovered a 14 year old Laurence fishburne who lied about his age being 18 to seal the part. In the conversation he cast a pre star wars Harrison Ford who was in American graffiti so he probably knew him from BFF George Lucas. He also put Ford in apocalypse now which I believe Ford filmed b4 star wars. I think casting started 4 Years before as that film took 4 years to complete.
