Supercool stuff Andy - I have not seen any of your videos before today. Must have been hiding under a rock.

Something I have practiced on classic roller skis to try and make sure I am kicking down rather than back: When I kick I want to have the front wheel of the non-kicking ski leave the pavement briefly as I click down with the other ski under me. I think this means I am fully weighting and kicking on the one ski, and not cheating by pushing back with the “perfect wax” that the classic ski clutch provides. Any thoughts or comments?

Yes, I like your thoughts in this. Good idea. I have found one indicator of a downward kick versus a late kick is the arm swing. We always want our kick to happen at the lowest point of the arm swing. If your arm is moving upward while you are trying to kick it forces the kick behind us and away from the wax pocket. So even if you are climbing a hill and your arms are in front of you, the kick can still happen at the low point to prevent kicking backward. Thanks for your ideas!

Hey Andy, great videos! Any cues/idea on how to keep your roller skis in line while striding? It‘s no problem on the snow because you have the tracks to hold the skis in place, but it’s a different story on the road. Greetings from an Irish guy in Hamburg, Germany

Hi Seoirse, having rollerski a that do not roll straight is frustrating. Best way to avoid it is with good rollerski maintenance and focusing on riding a flat ski. It is common for beginners who struggle with balance to rotate their ankles inward which can wear your wheels in a lopsided way. Some people like to use Persuits style boots when rollerskiing for more ankle support. It is also a good idea to swap your skis from one foot to the other during the workout to avoid lopsided wheel wear.

@@xski Hey Andy, thanks for the tips! By the way, your video on the different double poling gears was really helpful as well. What I meant about “keeping my skis in line” was how to move the feet in such a way that the roller skis stay parallel when kicking and swinging them forward again. I don’t have the confidence to kick and lift the rear wheel off the ground because I’m afraid that the rollerski will go off line when I swing it forward again.

Why is your ski popping up after leg extension? It will not if you are lengthening from your foot on the ground and your glutes are contracting, rather than pulling your leg back with your hamstring.
