Assalaamualaykum, I did not understand when it was mentioned that he willed for his ‘dua not to be accepted’, would anyone be able to clarify what was meant? JazaakumAllah khair

      وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته
What he meant is that a narration (from the Salaf I think and sure) said that he loved so and so and so much making Du’a, because he felt so close with Allāh to the point he doesn’t even care if he gets what he is asking for..
In an easy explanation basically is, that normally when a person invoke Allāh sincerely from his heart, a person making Du’a is normally he is need of something or want something (a job, or help against his enemies, need of salvation, a person to marry, to find his shoe) whatever it is, but some of the Salaf like the narrator who’ve said “to the extreme that I willed for my Du’a not to be granted” really loved making Du’a, I.e. they felt so close to Allāh by making Du’a that they felt peace, they felt so much love, why? Because they’re making Du’a, which Du’a is also an act of worship, which it can gets you closer to Allāh, as this is how īmān increases (actions of limbs and heart, and speech), so basically doesn’t even care if his Du’a to be accepted, but he kept on making Du’a because he felt so much love and closeness to Allāh.

I'm not sure but I think maybe someone who acknowledges the fact that you need to give all the strength and effort you can to make the dua by being conscious and moving the tongue while supplicating but he/she didn't do either one just because doesn't want to or lazy. kinda like when someone drives too fast, he knows that its dangerous but still doing it "carefully" knowing the consequences, people gonna say he wills to get into an accident. May Allah accept all our duas and supplications.

I believe, and this is just my belief, he is saying that because he knows the closer he gets to Allah then the more chances of his duas have of getting answered and this journey and progress and steps of getting closer to Allah feels so good to him that he wishes he is constantly just trying to get close to Allah and no longer cares for his own desires which he was once making duas for.
I have heard this before. People are brought close to Allah for their own personal problems so they call out to Allah but once they get close they realise they are small and Allah is great and being close to Allah feels amazing and gives amazing benefits so their intentions change and are strengthed after feeling the sweetenness of Iman and closeness to Allah.
