I have been applying for the past 4 years for Security on the Ships. And finally got an opportunity done all 3 interviews, actually last interview was today after 6 hours of SOP training with the interview at the end . And i passed , obviously i have years of experience behind me in Security and other accomplishments too , so yeah dont give up and keep applying. And your day will come when you dont expect it at all like me that you wake up with a Email to confirm a date for an interview. So yeah keep trying and applying
That is my advice too “keep trying after you have been rejected” I had my first interview with stiener a year after college when I was 19. They “said I needed more experience and because I hadn’t worked as a therapist, I didn’t seem keen enough” even though it was because I couldn’t get a job straight out of college without experience. I didn’t try again as I was scared of rejection and lots of people had tried to put me off ships. I decided I still wanted to do it 7 years late, so I had another Steiner interview (with years of spa experience). It was the same interviewer and this time she said, “ but you’ve tried many different careers blah blah,” and would only offer me the job if I did her friends £400 day course. I had another interview with stiener with a different recruiter and she really liked me and said you can’t believe it took so long to be accepted. So, could always try different recuiters too, with stiener it says who will interview you and has different regions. When I wanted to move to shops, I didn’t get it with Harding’s however I just applied for another company and I got it... didn’t wait around that time 😂
I totally see that for a cruise. I went to a university in Canada for a year where students from China make up the majority of those on campus. I once had to write a really awkward e-mail to the professor asking for a new project group, because they were IMing each other in Chinese for our assignment and I had no idea what was going on.
Thanks for your videos! I’m a new subscriber from Switzerland who loves cruising and I love to learn more about the behing the scenes crew life at seat! Looking forward to the next one! Cheers.
My daughter is preparing for auditioning as a Dancer ( singre too !) She is italian and speaks italian of course client English and spanish., good on french too , one of the three You mention she has, so maybe I can Hope ahahah Thank you 😊
Another great video Lucy! I'll also add that as passengers, we really love to meet people from all over the world. So cultural diversity is great for us as well as for the proper functioning of the ship.
What a coincidence I actually came on youtube to watch your new video but I didnt see any new video but i had a feeling that you would upload today not sure why
Lucy, what you say is generally true. For mechanical/electromotive etc. positions have to be filled by qualified personnel regardless of nationality. Ship itinerary is very important. For example cruises out of North America are 90% Americans and Canadians so English is foremost. If you are doing the Med. Spanish and Italian. Asia, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese are most important.
Hi Lucy! First of all I love all your videos. I am from Cuba and I am applying for Carnival Cruise ship. I have a question, do I have to apply for every contract or the company just contacts you when they have new offers? Thank you so much. Keep up with your amazing work. You're helping and inspiring a lot of people like me. Hugs from Cuba 🤗 🇨🇺. PS: love your accent 😍
Thank you for this Video , I had n interview last week , I want to go work to the cruise ships for the first time , and my interview was not successful 😌
Hey Lucy! Thank you for another great video😍 I’ve watched many of your videos all are super informative and helpful 😍😍 Can you please help me understand if it’s possible for a crew member to leave in the Port and explore the place if the destination country requires you to have Visa for example like a Shengen Visa to be able to go to Europe.
I just want to bring something up if you're trying to get hired on a cruise ship. This goes for pretty much any job out there though and people tend to overlook this. Keep an eye on your social media pages. Watch what you post because I can guarantee you an employer is going to have people going through them to vet you. You may have posted a pic or meme that you thought was funny, your employer might not feel the same way and you could get flagged for it. I've seen this happen many times to people. This is the no. 1 thing you have control of to help yourself out when trying to get a job other than networking with people. Having a Linkedin profile can help too. I've seen people get hired by the cruise ships through there.
very good point! Consider , how many times have we read online that someone's career was damaged for something they did or posted when they were 19 years old -- and they are now 55.... And if you have a Linkedin profile, check for grammar , spelling and use a professional picture :-)
How long would you recommend waiting before reapplying? If you applied too many times will you be blacklisted/banned from applying again, even if it’s for a set amount of time?
No, you will not be blacklisted. If you applied and didnt get the job. Try and contact then to find out why that may be. Then re apply when you are ready. Good luck!
I totally agree on my first ship my team (art department)was made up of different countries and it’s was awesome but on second ship my team (art department ) was made up of South Africans only … and I am the only Asian… I was always left out …. :(
Hey sweetheart I am so sorry that people from South Africa treated you that way , I really hope that you don't think all South African people are like that
Totally relate. I had a team of Mexicans and me and as the one Brit. Was terrible. All talking Mexican. Finally got taken further and teams were mixed. Never have one nationality doesn’t work
Love that you brought up the language thing-- have had that problem, not on a cruise. When I brought it up, I was called racist!

Congrats on your new job.
i just got my first cruise ship job after a full day of watching your videos before my interview!

@@brettparnell8254 Holy cow. I'm guessing ALL universities across Canada are running off Chineseium
@@robbrenton9438 yeah that happened when i went to school in vancouver the chinese students refused to talk to you if you wherent chinese
I really like how you said, " birds of a feather "
Now I understand the success of your channel: You look at us directly and speak very clearly and direct yet cordial.
We had a Filipino mafia on board, and on more than one ship.

Agents will sometimes offer me cruises before they release them to anybody else. Alot depends on your relationship with your agent.
Love your videos! Very nicely edited and presented.

she was mentioning reasons you may not get hired outside of not being qualified -- in other words, things outside your control.

It’s consistency for me..❤️❤️❤️😭
Thank you for such a great videos🥰
Thank you for watching!
On one ship the bulk of the crew came from Goa or the Philippines. The chaplain told me there was regularly friction between these two crew factions.
Thank you for this Video , I had n interview last week , I want to go work to the cruise ships for the first time , and my interview was not successful 😌
I know what you mean about the click thang. I’m Filipino. Grew up in California. I would kick it wit you. You cool.

That first one is actually so bad. Outdated and a deal breaker for me after having experience with brothers I could never live with one😂
Very interesting thanks! X

The Portuguese girls were rude!😂😂
I’m sorry for that experience..
agreed.....speaking in front of someone else that does not speak the same language is disrespectful and rude.....

Mexicans speak Spanish.
♥️♥️♥️
My family were Mafia so I can guarantee cruise ships are not like the Mafia.
I’m English and always end up with a group of latinos 😁
I am a guy and I will be your cabin mate as I identify as female lol.
Sex. Gender is just the stereotypes and expectations associated with your sex.
You mean 2 people of the same sex in a cabin, sex and gender are not the same.
X nationality is great BUT. Yeah, they should all be native English speakers, how dare they xD
