in my very humble opinion, as long as Martha plays Robert Schumann's music, he is NOT dead. His music lives through her, and it goes right into my soul!
Martha Argerich in her 80th year. - I have watched this video over the years since the performance and could not stop myself any longer from commenting. I have studied Classical Music since the 1960s and still present a weekly Classical Music Programme on FM Radio in Australia. First may I say; any one who criticises this lady; just go away. To the top professional musicians; she like Liszt is a Grandmaster of Piano - Level 10 in my opinion; one in every 100 years. Look at the sheer awe and stunned exhilaration of orchestra members, particularly lead violinists crying; - they knew they were in the company of genius; Yes like Liszt - Martha is a Grandmaster of Piano. Even Schumann and Liszt would have been overwhelmed and - Oh - she does not need sheet music in front of her. I challenge anyone; who says this woman is not the world's greatest living pianist - whether MALE or FEMALE - The lead violinists cannot stop the tears raining down their faces as they defers to Genius.
Look at the sheer awe and stunned exhilaration of the orchestra members, - in respect of her brilliance. Even Schumann and Liszt would have been overwhelmed - and Oh - this lady does not need the sheet in front of her
Martha's performance is great, needless to say, but I cannot help but see a female violinist with glasses in the back. I can tell that she's such a nice person. 🙂
She must have made a self-deprecating face at the first violinist after that simple clunker. Violinist couldn't help but smile. What a memorable moment for her. Martha was probably more shocked than anyone. What a wonderful person and pianist.
0:44 and 1:01 and elsewhere, hammers so tired can't even hit the only three strings they have been told to! Common with older hammers. But how exciting and above all of it she is. Music!
I cry everytime I hear this music . Van Cliburn used to play it . I just heard Herman Prey sing it . I didn't know the great Schumann interpreter Argerich ever played it. Has she recorded it ?
Really wonderful, touching, passionate and expressive. She is a pure and simple genius. The proof are some musician in the orchestra who were listening to her and enjoying Martha's playing.
@@andrewgibbon-williams7974 - Thank you Andrew, as you look at the awed faces of the 1st Violinist and other Orchestra members, it is hard to watch her play this piece, without succumbing to a few tears
These were no mistakes. The piano was broken - you can tell from Martha disappointment at the beginning. She did not want to play the encore and for every wrong sound she was looking at the musicians there. Martha would never do these mistakes, she knows this piece like her own blood....
bit quick and quite few blunders: at one particularly bad one, 0:57, she turns and says something to the girl violinist and again at 1:50, this time her comment appears to have the girl very amused!
It appears to me that Martha is not aging happy, she enter the room and didn't seem to enjoy the audience (she looked like , let me get this done ) I hope she is happy an in peace (beautiful Martha )great pianist no doubt.
i think she has always felt this way about being on stage and especially playing solo, it's not something new. but we're very lucky that she continues to do it anyway.
Truth!

Martha is still making beautiful music, God bless
Es fantastica
Pifió varias veces.

The facial expression of the right rear viiolinist is very very very very very impressive.... thanks for this movie....
She expressed also my own tears and awe......

Made me cry watching it😥
Nobody can play this so beautiful
It's all in the phrasing. Martha doesn't even have to think about it. Doubt if the composer himself played this better. Brava!
Thank you for sharing! So moving, so sensitive! Pray to God she keeps on ( has recently canceled performances)
and the violinist was tearing while listening to her...
That violinist can probably play the piece herself. It's common for pro s to have 2 instruments in level.
Lucia Luque , first violin from orquesta sinfonica de cordoba
that violinist’s expression makes this movie stirring

I thought they were just note slips but as I listen more I think you're right.
The problem is with the una corda function. Sometimes, it shifts the keyboard and hammers too far and so the hammer hits two different notes.
I cry everytime I hear this music . Van Cliburn used to play it . I just heard Herman Prey sing it . I didn't know the great Schumann interpreter Argerich ever played it. Has she recorded it ?
Thanks for sharing! It seems that she had broken an A flat string during her Concerto performance :)
With "una corda" she kept also the A natural, because it's quite near. They need to set this piano ahah
Wonderful performance!
I was there :)
No doubt the first violin knows the piece very well...

One of the strings or hammers is broken I think
@@gavinfindlay7603it's a problem with the una corda. One hammer is just a bit out of place so hits two notes when she presses the left pedal.

Broken string?!
