Dolly is the definition of what a wealthy person can do with their money to support their community: millions of books to children, opening theme parks in her rural Appalachian hometown to add jobs and income to the area, donating to inner city Black communities with the funds she earned from Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You. She is a darn national treasure.
Oh wow!! Didn't know there was a Dollywood cookbook!
I went to Dollywood the very first year it was open. Not much there, but it was still so, so enjoyable. And of course, the Southern Hospitality of ALL the employees made it a joy to be there. I will never forget. They had a Santa there and my girlfriend's little girl was on his lap talking his ear off. My girlfriend told her she had to let other children have their turn. Santa looked at her and said, "Now Mom, we're having a serious conversation, and we're not in any hurry here." You can imagine she felt so special. But even the first year there, it was a special place.
Sorry to ramble so, but I am glad to know they have a cookbook. The recipes looked great!

I have been a Dolly fan every since I saw her in 1967 in Toledo at the Lucas County fair.She was with Porter Wagner and Bill Anderson and Jan Howard.My Mama bought every Album that she put out for year's.I was 8 years old when I saw her.

Everyone loves Dolly! I was fortunate enough to actually meet Dolly about 30 years ago. She was awesome. Such a lovely lady. One of my cousins owns one of the oldest theaters on the strip in Branson, MO. Their family theater is like Branson's Grand Ole Opry. Hundreds of old country music stars have played on the stage. (I've met a few of them too, through my cousin, including Dolly. 😊)
About 20 years ago Dolly built her own theater in Branson and used to perform there a few weeks each year. She actually has a lot of ties to Branson, MO. Dollywood was actually built by and is owned by the family behind Silver Dollar City, a popular Branson theme park. Dolly invested some of her money in it and, of course, allows them to use her name. As a tourist attraction, it brings in money and economical development to Pigeon Forge.
I brown my butter for my choc chip cookies. Makes a deeper flavour. Definitely worth the time.
My daughter also uses brown butter, and it is so good.

Weren't those family size tea bags? We use 3 of those for a whole gallon of tea (4 X that amount)! When the recipe calls for 6 tea bags, it probably means the little bags you would use to make a single cup of hot tea. Hope your birthday was wonderful!

I was excited to see the blue tray upon which you served the sweet tea. My family had that exact tray when I was young (1950s-60s). My mother brought it out on special occasions. I don't know what became of our tray and I haven't seen one like it since. My parents were both from Tennessee, so I loved seeing it in connection with Dolly. Thanks for the bit of nostalgia.
How neat that your family had the same tray! I picked it up years ago, not even sure where. It may have been an estate sale.

So I bought the McCall's 1963 Cook Book because of you. I will be making pickled mushrooms this week. Inspired by the sweet tea this week, you should do an entire video on Sodas and punches. I was lookng at the orange sherbet Freeze and the Strawbery Soda. They look like old fashioned floats.

Happy birthday, Anna! I live in TN and I've actually never been to Dollywood....but my husband and I have been to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area many times, and we actually just got back from celebrating my birthday weekend in a cabin in the Smokies! Such a relaxing time!

Happy birthday! My sister and I try to do a sister trip each year…we have gone to Hawaii, rock and roll hall of fame (we are music lovers) and last year we did Dollywood! We are not ride people either but the little theaters they have where they show dolly documentaries was fun, we rode the big train, walked around the beautiful park. We stayed at her dreammore resort and that was wonderful. This year my sister is coming to my home in Tennessee again and we are going to anakeesta park. Thanks for the recipes going to go make sweet tea and cookies now! I never knew about the baking soda hack!

Happy Birthday! They change out the Halloween decorations overnight and have the Christmas decorations out on November 1st when they open. It's amazing to contemplate. I love iced tea, grew up drinking it and drink it every day now.

Dollywood! It's on my bucket list now. I love rides, especially water rides. I've seen this Dollywood cookbook in the library, so I may check it out. No recipe for cinnamon bread recipe in there though, I guess. Happy Birthday! 🥳🎂🥳

Happy Birthday!!!! Yes, baking soda is the secret for great sweet tea like in the south. When I grew up in the warmer months we always had a gallon of tea in the fridge. So did my grandma in PA. There is not a bad chocolate chip cookie.

Happy Birthday!! These recipes look like a lot of fun. I’m in love with that pitcher but glass and I lately don’t get along well so I would probably not use it I need acrylic. But there are some really cute non-glass type containers now so it’s okay. I am not a chewy, chocolate chip cookie kind of girl. I am a crispy chocolate chip cookie girl all the way!!! Who am I kidding? When I make chocolate chip cookies I think the dough makes it to the oven to become the cookies MAYBE 2 times out of 10. I’m 🇨🇦 so please forgive a stupid question. I thought Frito Pie was made with the smaller bags of Fritos and you dump everything on top of the Fritos. It’s supposed to be a fun camp out thing. But again, what do I know my idea of camping is a hotel, but doesn’t have room service. I’m not joking about that either!!!! Hoping you have a wonderful birthday and an even better year!!! 🎂🥳🎉
Thank you for the birthday wishes! As for the Frito Pie, sometimes it is made in the little bags of Fritos, but you can also make it in a pie dish so people can scoop and serve themselves or in individual bowls. Anything goes with Frito Pie! 😂

Frito pie is like walking tacos. You use taco seasoned ground beef, cheese or cheese sauce, sour cream, lettuce, or whatever you like and put it inside a snack size bag of Fritos
Luzianne is one of, if not the last broadly available orange-pekoe teas in the US. Everything else for iced tea is black tea, which has the more acidic (my mom calls it "tobacco-y") flavor, but orange-pekoe has a good, smooth tea flavor without the acidity or bitterness, which takes a buttload of sugar to overcome. I'm pretty sure it's why Milo's bottled tea tastes a word different (and better) from bottled Lipton's: Milo's is using orange-pekoe, or at least a majority of it in their blend, and Lipton's--and virtually everyone else--is using all black. So, if you'd like the same flavor but decaffeinated, stick with Luzianne, or look for an orange-pekoe tea specifically, at a store with wider tea varieties than an average grocery.
walmart used to carry a brand called National Cup, that was inexpensive and made fantastically good iced tea, but they clearanced it out shortly after covid hit, and I've never seen it carried anywhere else. People want like $20+ per box for it now, through reselling on Amazon.

Happy Birthday! Luzinanne is all Steve will drink. We sweeten with Stevia. We are 2 hours away so we do day trips sometimes. I don't do rides either but there is plenty to do without the rides. The recipes look drool-worthy! Those cookies look amazing!

In New Mexico, Frito Pie is made with Red Chile, and Pinto beans.. the tomatoes are fresh, and placed on top of the chile , meat, and beans. Some then add some shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, more diced onion.
