    One of the many gems they never played live. The Stones have such a deep catalog.

      They really needed the backup singers for this one. This tune could have been a real celebration live in 72 with them aboard. Surprised that they haven't performed it on any tours from 89 on?

      Really? Very surprising. But with a repertoire so big some things have to fall through the cracks.

    On a related note, it would have been nice had the Stones had the confidence to continue to work Loving Cup into the 1972 set list. A much underplayed gem of a tune from Exile that needed to be played more!

      @flipdaboid8007  7 месяцев назад

      An embarrassment of riches. Soul Survivor would have been good, also. But too many new tunes and people start walking out, like Chicago 78. They tried to play almost all of Some Girls but many left.

      @flipdaboid8007 true enough. There are so many great tunes off of Exile, but Loving Cup is near the top of the crop. Even with the later tours featuring the back up singers and additional horns, etc, they should have worked in Loving Cup, Soul Survivor, Let it Loose, etc

      I've read Jagger hated “Loving Cup” and found it very difficult to play live. He's changed his mind since then, but he felt indifferent toward Exile for decades.

      @flipdaboid8007 Really? I was at Buffalo 1978 and the fans were pissed and stared tearing up the place because the Stones didn't come out for an encore.

    Rolling Stones
    Let It Loose (1972-06-24 Dallas rehearsals)
    This is a rather crude edit of takes 5 and 8. Take 5 had no ending and take 8 had no beginning, so…
    All the beautiful photos are from the Montreux rehearsals, when they wanted publicity for the upcoming tour.
    Couldn’t find any from Dallas when they were woodshedding in preparation for the 72 tour movie.

    Its a shame they didn't do it live in 1972. They obviously could have pulled it off.

      Especially if they had borrowed Stevie Wonder's backup singers. Would have made a great encore with Stevie out there, too.

    Hey flip was Nicky, on organ and or Roeads electric piano, or was it Billy, at this pre goats juncture.?
    And of course stu,on regular piano 🎹.

    • @flipdaboid8007
      @flipdaboid8007  7 месяцев назад

      Nicky was on the 72 American tour and the early 73 Pacific tour. He's playing electric piano here, as he did on at least one song at one show later on. He & Stu alternated on regular piano for both tours.

      There's still a few around. I first met a friend who gave me copies of many Stones boots in an independent record store. I'm pretty sure that this one in particular came from him. Thanks JF!

      No. By the time rehearsals began for the tour, Keith was a Wanted Man in France. They still couldn't gig in France on the 73 tour, either.

    Jagger is out of tune. Very far from his Exile performance. No doubt the reason they did not play it live

    • @flipdaboid8007
      @flipdaboid8007  7 месяцев назад

      Sounds kinda tired, impatient, fed-up. Lotta takes on a song they wouldn't end up performing for the movie. My impression was that he was shouting the lyrics carelessly. Very out of character for him. He must have been angry about something. Maybe it was Keith or MT who wanted to do that song and wouldn't let it go. The horns are sublime, though.
