I did not know anything about it but I thought that mark (Plimsol) did not make sense in front but in the middle of the ship as you say, that way one could see if the ship was stern or bow heavy.
I work as a stevedore "aka longshoreman" . Many new hands always ask, what the white lines mean in the side of the ship?. And many co-worker who have been here years sill don't know. Now I show them this simple video. Thanks for the info keep up the good work. And please do more about cargo and barge vessel.
Freeboard of the ship definitely is not the vertical distance from the water line to the sheer but vertical distance from the waterline to main deck of the vessel which is uppermost continuous deck of the vessel...thanks good work keep it up
wrong, there is only one and is located in the center of the ship (known as Midship section), and the plimsoll line location is determined by calculation of how much weigth can the ship carry, and the document is known as "Stability Booklet", all ships above 24 meters in length should have an "Stability Booklet", regards
I think the plimsol line it should be located at the middle ship rather at the centre of the ship plus free board is a reserve of flotation, and it's is the vertical distance from main deck to mid ship draught.
Basically incorrect! 1) Plimsoll mark’s position is midships. 2) Free board is distance up to the main deck. 3) Absolutely confuse auditory about loading conception. Conclusion - isn’t recommended for seaman, enough for others.
This Video has many things wrong with it. The load lines that are been shown is for the Starboard side, and we are looking at the port side of the vessel. PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH THESE VIDEOS SO PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE DETAILS ARE RIGHT.
As this ship is registered (and presumably insured) with Lloyds, hence the LR, Iwould have thought that the word 'draft' should have been spelled 'Draught'.

No Plimsol mark located forward or aft of the vessel,it's usually located at middle of the vessel both port and starboard,a draft mark is located forward, aft, and in the middle of the vessel both port and starboard....are you a merchant mariner?
2:59 It is not true! You can load vessel with exactly the same weight independent on the water according to load lines - you should keep in mind, that vessel loaded on denser water must maintain buoyancy even when travelling to regions with less dense water.
- ...and before you or anyone else chips in with 'actually, the plimsoll line does show how much volume is under the surface'... In reply to your detailed feedback I'll not treat your views so disrespectfully by just 'chipping in' or similar. Must admit that I did watch this video in a bit of a hurry leading to my hastily made comment. Beg your pardon, I do stand corrected. Thankyou for drawing my attention as to how and where, allowing me to learn directly and correctly from you instead.
I worked at the docks and never understood what that thing was for! I thought it broke up ice! I hated going dock aloft or working on the ship...it was just too creepy to me!
This is not a good video. Position of Plimsol mark is wrong, Freeboard is taken to Sheer instead to maindeck. Search another video is you want to learn about this subject

While the video is very good, there are several mistakes which could confuse people. Firstly tiburochako is correct in saying that the marks are placed midships on either side of the vessel. Secondly the load lines are forward of the plimsoll mark not aft as shown in this video. Thirdly is gives the impression that you can load more cargo in fresh water than in salt water this is not true and is all dependant on DWA, FWA and TPC
This video has many flaws and the biggest one is that the Marks are in the wrong direction. The vessel is shown Port side where as the Loadline Marks are for Stbd side... Have a look... Serious mariners pls do not follow this
Who would check this for no reason? I mean if his major is not navigation, I'm going to have my Cargo management assessment five days later. This freaks me out.
Misleading at best... go and have a look at the Load Line Convention for yourself if you need some facts. Pictographically flawed, representation of freeboard the sheer line and not the freeload deck...? The plimsoll mark and the load lines are about minimum assigned freeboard - not a maximum draft. Less load in TF?!!! No way, you need more freeboard in WNA and W zones so you end up loading less. You can load more in the TF and F zones so that when you enter a Summer zone, you rise to your summer mark. ...Stephen Hawking's not always right!
Nice that Stephen Hawking narrated this RIP
Freeboard height is taken from the water level to the deck line and not sheer line. Plimsol mark is at midships not at the bow as shown
I did not know anything about it but I thought that mark (Plimsol) did not make sense in front but in the middle of the ship as you say, that way one could see if the ship was stern or bow heavy.

Very nice narration and the illustrations are easy to understand. very useful video!! Thanks so much for the upload!!

Agree..
I agree, it is the distance from the Plimsoll line to the Deck line.
I don't know any better explanation.Great video!Thanks )
Thank you for this informative video. It is very good for a beginner to understand the jargon of Plimsoll line
the narrationshould be done by human
I also really hate robotic narrators.
@@fenderstratguy they're taking our jerbs.
Грузовая марка должна устанавливаться на середине длины судна. А также горизонтальная лини и ватерлиния должны находиться на одной линии.
Well done,... clear and well structured! Thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial. It's easy enough for me to better understanding.

Correct me if i'm wrong ,Plimsol line should be located at the center of the vessel and not forward of the vessel.
If the narration was done by a human, it sounded like it had been altered. If that was the case, I could not understand the need of it.

Location of Plimsoll marking should be on mid-ship. That's what I have seen most bulk carriers.
As this ship is registered (and presumably insured) with Lloyds, hence the LR, Iwould have thought that the word 'draft' should have been spelled 'Draught'.

Yay, another one of these annoying computer voices!
You need to be special for getting this in your recommendations
i never knew water had different densities. How interesting is that ? It make sense though.
flyingtigre1 that's why you can float in the dead sea ☺☺☺

In a simpler sense, its just referring to the ship being in the same buoyancy for the example of physics
2:05 dosent it sound like he said ( overloading can cause the shit to sink ?)

Wouldn't a cargo scale be better!
there are 3 plimsoll lines, one forward of the vessel, one in the aft, and one exactly in the middle of the ships if i am right
Those are draught marks pal. The plimsoll mark is only located at midships.
This is not a good video.
Position of Plimsol mark is wrong, Freeboard is taken to Sheer instead to maindeck.

What is a good video to watch then?
wonder too
i love how this stock training video made it to youtube
Why the video has so much pauses
if a ship is over than the line what will happen? it's sinking or what? sorry for my english..just wanna leran as i am a physics student
Nice line sir
Диск Плимсолля и грузовые марки устанавливаются на миделе судна
plimsol is at the mid of the ship not in the fwrd

I don't... the plimsoll line should be displayed amidships (or thereabouts) on both sides of the hull.
can someone please tell me how the TFLL is found?

6 years and still on my recommendation
So if you overload a ship it can sink? Wow what a revelation
I think life at sea is entirely different from the one at land
Thank you for sharing this include very good information.
Is it that hard to find actual humans to narrate?
They probably don't have a nice mic

I never new that.
Yes len hart water has different density..the fresh water is heavier than the salt water
