Is there any reason why the word “criminals” is used in context rather than “sinful?” In the Quran “The Meaning of The Holy Quran by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, the word “criminals” is never used. Instead, the word “sinful” is ALWAYS used. Also, there are other words that are substituted from the book version that should be used in this Commentator’s English version in order not to confuse new converts.

I have used the Sahih International translation and these are the words as translated there.

It also makes sense as the people of Bani Israel were murdering, stealing and destroying the land. On a much less extent to what they are doing now. They themselves call this (their) generation the MOST LOVED generation as they will be welcoming Dajjal.

The qualities they have are also hated by Allah - ego, judgement, lying, twisting religion to their benefit, etc. These lead to the path of crime. This is why it is said "you will be tested" this nation too said "we will end up going to heaven" since Allah had told them they were the favourite nation. I get goosebumps when now Muslims doing wrong say this. They forget it is just a title given to them but little do they do to maintain it instead they take advantage of it. May Allah guide us. Ameen!
