Also get ready to be blown out by amazing sound effects, really really cool characters, some fanservice, beautiful animations and unique powers. Wish more people reacted to this. @@kytsunix1654 They do, but it does get confusing until then, so at least dispelling the belief that Shinra's dad and granddad were fire soldiers is a good move
These generations have nothing to do with inheriting from your ancestors, it's about the degree to which you have control and can use fire. The powers themselves can awaken in literally anyone, just as anyone can turn into a living torch, regardless of whether it happened to their grandfather or father or anyone from the previous generations of a given character. I may be wrong here because I haven't watched the series again since the end of season 2 and I don't remember well, but I think generation 1 can't use fire at all, but is resistant to flames, generation 2 can control fire but can't produce it, and generation 3 can produce and control flames, if I remember correctly, so there can be representatives of each generation in one generation.
Just a quick correction. 1st generations are infernals. Aside from that, the resistance to fire is variable, is not limited to 2nd or 3rd being more resistant.

The sound effects in this anime goes fucking crazy. The only anime that can even come close is Fate, and even that's being generous.
