How can you not be a fan of MVDP. This guy puts on a show every race. Never wins by chance, it's always an impressive win, and on top of that, he's also a really nice guy. To many more years Matthieu.
This new generation of riders has really animated road racing. I stopped watching after about 2013/2014. But the last couple of years have rekindled that love for the sport again
Matt Stephens is such a great interviewer. I love how people are just casually walking by not knowing its one of the finest athletes on the planet chatting away!
Without doubt THE most exciting Word Championship men’s race ever. As a proud Scotsman, seeing Scotland at its finest has been amazing and having Mathieu van der Poel crowned champion on our roads was an unforgettable experience👍👍👍
I used to ride with Matt in the same club 30 odd years ago. He has always had that brilliant personality. He helped me win my first ever road race as a junior by guiding my tactics on a club run chat. He came and found me the next day post-race (he was riding the big boys race after my event) and wanted to know how I did. He is just genuine and cares about people. As for Mathieu's worlds win - wow. That was a fantastic race! What a winner. I love how he got on with it after the crash. That shoe should be in a museum.
Great to see Matt on these brilliant interviews the most enjoyable down to earth ones out there. @Bikejon I guest that would have been a Hemel Hempsted CC club ride? And I may have been in that race you won?
My friend is amateur elite in my country, so amongst the strongest riders who don't ride for a living, and he raced a couple professionals in one race, where they completely dropped him. These pros got dropped by Mathieu. It is very difficult to understand the level that this young man is at. Pure inspiration!
If Scotland had a national tour, maybe 5-6 days, I'd watch every year. It's a stunning place. Fantastic interview Matt. No gushing, or fan-boying, just a bit of fun
@@LewisTaylor4 It was there last year stage one was Aberdeen to Glenshee. Its not in Scotland this year annoyingly. Id love a stage over the bealach na ba not sure its feasible though
Thanks for that great interview! MvdP is a genuine good guy and Matt did a great job of showing that to people. A great representative for the Rainbow Jersey! Loved the interview.
Matt is just brilliant, he can put people at ease and that helps with great, relaxed interviews. As for MVDP, what can you say, an absolute animal on a bike, but such an approachable, easy going, nice guy off the bike. Difficult not to like him!
Two legends, great interview Matt. I randomly became of fan a few years back of MVDP because his aggressive style of racing is fun to watch and he just seems like a genuinely nice dude. It's been a thrill cheering for him from afar.
Matt & Matthieu are a great pair. Both are super nice guys. And as Matt says in the end, «Don’t stop doing what you are doing». The both of you. You do bring smiles on peoples faces.
Matt Stephens did a magnificent job bringing MVP to the people. Traditionally, MVP is a bit stoic and removed from the audience, but here, Stephens works to help the audience relate to MVP in a whole new way. I'm not sure if the writers had all the ideas or Matt himself, but this is a whole new side of MVP that we're seeing and we have Matt Stephens to thank. Best MVP interview by a country mile. High fives all around. XOXO Your (Matt's) adoring fan
Brilliant. What a genuinely easy going guy MVDP is. Peebles was blessed by his presence, and how good to see how willing to try some our our most famous "delicacies" !!! I watched his father race the final stage of The Prutour in Edinburgh in May 1999, so it's fantastic to see how the next generation has turned out. Matt, as usual, brings out the humourous side of everybody with his own personality. This was a superb video. Thank You !!!
OMG MVDP and MATT Stephens interview..... Cracking interview..... Not even that.... Just 2 down to earth pals having a chat 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻 AND LOVE all the gifts at the end 👍🏻😍
Hey Matt, another killer interview, with no other than the spanking brand new World Road Champion. What a guy Mathieu, I hope he races well after his 40's, he's already a Legend.
Turning 46 next week and I f i were to meet MVDP i would probably scream like a little girl. Such a complete rider and total gentleman, couldn't be happier for his win !
Fantastic interview Matt, MVDP and the other riders made this years road race an incredible spectacle. I’m totally in awe of these amazing athletes, best of luck for Saturday Matthieu.
Very nice interview. Amazing to be there in Glasgow to see him win and even better to have him in my home town of Peebles. It's not a big place, so you cant help but bump into the riders, especially around the coffee shops! Side note on Irn Bru - it used to outsell Coca Cola in Scotland which made Scotland one of the only countries where Coke was not top dog in the fizzy pop market. They have reduced their sugar way more than most brands and it still tastes great.
I feel blessed to be watching cycle racing in the era of MVP vs WVA vs Tom Pidcock and the Taday Pogacer vs Jonas Vinegaard. Lot's of late night race watching on the edge of my seat. Oh, and Matt Stephens just rocks. His interview with Cecelie Uttrip Ludwig was epic.
Lovely interview Matt, Mathieu is such a nice lad, true honour to have him race and win in Scotland. Maybe he can do what Brian Smith couldn't and bring Tunnocks and Irnbru sponsors into the cycling scene. Keep up the great work and content, we all love watching and listening to your podcasts and shows 👌
I've seen many folks interviewed by many different interviewer's and Matt just brings his ❄️chill self in, prepared but like a bro not standard Media.❣️🎯
Mathieu is so wonderfully Dutch. Direct, honest about the third gift: "When did you get this, this doesn't look very tasty". That is considered to be quite rude over there, Mat :).
What a great interview: talking about extraordinary things in a very down-to-earth, relatable way. In the end we are all merely humans having very personal experiences. Thanks for sharing your's!
This is superb, smiled the whole way through! What a top interview and top guy MVDP is. This was even sweeter for me as i used to walk over that bridge everyday at school lunch to get my half pizza supper before boosting back up for class. Matt pulled out some stonking gifts too, top effort on the Forsyths grub, that place is legendary, highly recommend the steak and macaroni pies! More of this content please!!!
The best interviews the best. Wouldn’t you just love to ride bikes and hang out with these guys? Matt Stevens is arguably the greatest interviewer in the cycling universe. Chapeau to both of you! 🚴♂️🚴♂️
At least I now know I am doing one thing right with my training and nutrition. IRN BRU, a can a day, made from girders. (Also crazy to see MVDP and Matt Stephens walking the green in Peebles, just around the corner!) What a cracking video!

Little fun story: Back in February I was in Hoogerheide for the Cyclocross World Champs and as I was getting in the arena around 11am I think, I could see the Men Elites were doing their last warmup laps. And as I was crossing with the masses this little road of access to the course, I could see with the corner of my eye a cyclist coming quite fast at me from the right hand side. Thought it was a spectator cycling to the race, so I kept walking. But then all of a sudden I see him cutting the corner and coming straight at me and in a split second I had to decide whether to stop still or keep walking forward to let the "lunatic" coming at 20mph at a big mass of spectators pass. So I stopped still and he managed to stop last second at like 30cm from me and avoid crashing. I looked up and it was MVDP. Had I hesitatated 1 extra sec he could've crashed into me and possibly injured himself before the race and not be able to compete properly. And not be the first double Cyclocross and Road WC 🙈.
Utterly delightful. MvdP is the best bloke on and off the bike. Thanks Matt for this wonderful clip. The park bench scene is sheer perfection and I was already blown away before that!
Loved this interview. Loved that MVDP wasn’t rude about course. I mean of course since he won but so many of them have been really rude. I love that he acknowledged that it was good for spectators and that that is actually important. He’s such a champion in every way. ❤
Next time I fill my bidons up at that water fountain in Peebles I'll look at that bench and remember MVNP sat there! Nice to see these guys on my home turf doing what they do best. Well done on an amazing race Mathieu.
That was a fantastic interview and a great watch. Was hoping for a deep-fried Mars Bar to be offered by Matt, but they’re perhaps not the choice of Champions and perhaps explains my cycling performance😂. Saw the road race from the finish line in Glasgow - what a spectacular effort from all riders, but a thoroughly well deserved win for MVdP! Chapeau.
Wow, Mathieu, it is great to see your personality and so great to see your emotion after the race! You always seem like such a stoic, serious rider. The 2021 Paris Roubaix was electrifying because of your ferocious attack , and also completely heartbreaking to see you collapse after the finish. I was inspired by your heroic victory in the World Championship! Not to take anything away from other riders who have worn the jersey, but all real fans will LOVE seeing you race in the stripes after that gutsy and brilliant performance. They say you "had a bad TDF", but from my perspective, it was amazing to watch the times you went on front and OBLITERATED the peloton behind you. I was laughing out loud at the complete disarray of what was an orderly field before. Team directors have to hate seeing you ruin all their plans for the end of the stage. I was an MVP fan before, but you might have just become my overall favorite rider. Keep being you and keep those atomic bombs you call legs pumping!
I keep saying this as well. We have to realize we are lucky in these times with this generation of riders Not just their talent and achievements, but also their mentality and spirit
Mathieu has been saying that he feels old for maybe 2 years now. As a fellow Matthew, I sense an early retirement, sad to say. As a cycling fan and a Mathieu Van Der Poel fan, I would be sad to see him leave in the next couple years. Sagan was my initial inspiration to ride so much, but now MVDP is that for me. I hope he goes for many many more years. Mathieu, Matt, and myself, Matthew, you've both made me very happy. Matt, you really have shown here, in a class way, that Matthews, are pure class. Cheers mate.

He comes across really well in this interview. I'm not sure he's completely comfortable with the media side of being a star but this is a good interview from him. Maybe it's Matt Stephens.... or maybe it's just the fact that he is relaxed after bagging the rainbow jersey 😂
