Warren definitely needs considered for the Heisman. He's a classic swiss army knife of a player. Doing whatever is needed to win. Nothing is more football than that! 🏈
If anyone didn't like Andy K at this point, they probably wouldn't like Mother Theresa. He has changed everything at PSU on O this year even without number #1 receivers. Amazing stuff. Great hire.
@@Aart.Vandelay who knows. We’ve tried different things. We’ve tried hiring the hot coordinator in Holgerson. That was ok-not great. We tried hiring the hot G5 coach in Neal Brown. That was ok- not great. From the looks of it we’re going to try a proven head coach that’s already won here in the past in Rodriguez. We’ll see how that goes. If that doesn’t work out, so be it, we’ll try something else. It’s a lot tougher to win here at West Virginia. We aren’t a blueblood like PennSt, we don’t have money of a PennSt. All we can do is keep trying.
What a different era when for 60 some years Penn State had almost complete stability in coaching both at head coach and numerous assistant coaches under Rip Engle and Joe Paterno. It’s a totally different world. Not sure that it is better today.
Watched a WV podcast yesterday. After watching yours. You said AK was gone if he said yes. The WV podcast said Rich Rodriguez was the frontrunner the whole time. Way too much success with RR at their helm.
Warren would have won the Heisman if he played for one of the beloved SEC schools like Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. Heck they wouldn't have taken anyone else, but Warren committed the mortal sin of playing for PSU.
WV and Wren are looking out for their interests, as they should! They not only shouldn't care what happens at PSU, it'd be advantages for them to get the OC before the post season. This business isn't for the faint of heart. It's high pressure high stakes war basically. Im thrilled AK stuck around but WV was doing right by their program.
Wasn't sure Andy K would actually come to WVU due to you guys being in the playoff & looking to make a good run & maybe win it all. If, he could take the job pending finishing PennSt's season 1st, then yes I could've seen it "maybe" happening. But usually its the coach stays with his current team or leaves. As much as I hate WVU didn't land him, I'm so glad for PennSt for him staying will hopefully help PennSt over take OHst .
Booo lol. I really really really wanted him to be the newest Morgantown resident! He was my pick. Yes, Rich Rodriguez may be a tolerable trade off. I loved him. And could care less about him leaving for Michigan. When WVUs AD, Ed Pastalong would do nothing that he should have to help keep him. I love penn state, whether I should or not as. A WVU passionate fan , but it has been beautiful to watch him turn around PSUs offense. I’m happy for you guys and yours, but sheet! I can’t wait to watch PSU walk through to the Playoff championship! Gonna be a fun December and January. At least I have that! Good luck guys! You have got this!
The expanded playoffs make hotshot coordinators more likely to stay with their teams than when the four team playoff system was in place. Kotelnicki would probably have left early, prior to the bowl game, if PSU was excluded from a four team playoff. In addition to Kotelnicki 15 other coordinators have to think about having a chance to put National Championship on their resume and stay put or to jump at a head coaching job. That National Champion qualification may later mean an elite head coaching opportunity such as the Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State or Michigan job as opposed to a very good one such as WVa.
As a mountaineer fan,. I am happy for Penn State but saddened for WVU. It shows his character as a man and a coach. As a Rich Rod fan, I have a sinking feeling Wren Baker isn't going to hire him and that puts a knot in my stomach.
Would love if you can comment on your thoughts on the amount of receivers in the transfer portal and how come we aren't able to grab those guys? Is it really NIL?
His "confirming" that he's returning next year isn't a guarantee that he's returning next year. It just means he didn't want the West Virginia job. Leaving might be a good career move for him. Next year's offense is going to struggle without Allen, Singleton, and Warren - even if Allar returns.
They must negotiate his contract so that he cannot leave until the playoffs/ and or Bowl season is over. Its unimaginable to me that a coach can leave a team high & dry
I like you point on waiting for Andy K. Its what I would've done if I was in charge & "if" Andy K was willing to come to WVU after your season ends. Obviously idk, but maybe it was a mix of WVU wanting to quickly hire & maybe Andy wasn't fully sold on coming to WVU(& if so I wouldn't blame him for its harder HC job than most). I would assume if he really wanted the WVU job Wren would've probably waited if he was truly Wrens 1st choice as rumored. Then again maybe Wren was just too impatient.
Saying Miami would have been more or less the same with a different QB I think is a bit outlandish… All for the Warren deserved an invite stance but Miami is a 6/7 win team without Ward IMO
As a many decade fan an I who was at the 17 to 14 game in 1984 when we finally beat Paterno i like this. WV problem is defense . We dont need a young offense coordinator. Our joke scared lay back joke zone cost us 4 gsmes this seadon. We need a great defense cosch.
Defensive coaches don't typically become highly successful HCs. Furthermore, being a HC is less about Xs and Os and id say it's MUCH less about them. Its being a CEO and creating a culture a direction and donor relations while hiring great coordinators and leaving the Xs and Os to them.
@@ryansheard8092well look how WV coach Brown just left the defense alone an get lit up week after week. A head coach main job is to change what is not working offense defense or special teams. Again defense is problem here. I would rather hite s great defense coordinator. We have a good offense an offense coordinator now.
When we beat a team named Ohio Stare and one in the top 5 then I will give a hoot. This team and staff are good enough to beat good teams but not very the top teams.
I never really believed he was going to WVU. It would be a significant step down from PSU. Now if Northwestern (or the equivalent in another league) offered him a deal, he might go.
I’m a WVU fan I just wanted to say good luck in the playoff guys.
Thank God! He's back next season.
This very good news. Thx for the update Zach. Great show, as always
That’s a relief! Wasn’t so worried about next year but was very worried he could be lured away before this season is over.
Warren definitely needs considered for the Heisman. He's a classic swiss army knife of a player. Doing whatever is needed to win. Nothing is more football than that! 🏈
Great news!
There’s not enough loyalty with coaches or players. Well done coach K

We got a real one
Good report Zach as usual. We need a couple of wide receivers
Gabriel looked like Oregons best player in the big championship game I think he deserves to be there.
Have to agree
Majority of the fan base did not want Andy. So I’m actually very glad he’s sticking with you guys and good luck in the future.
Ha. Interesting. Curious to know what the fanbase thinks of as a good and realistic choice for the HC job.
Good i want him to stay for a decade

The SEC is second fiddle to the big ten now
No he would not. Tight ends never win this award besides he isn’t even the best offensive player in this league much less the whole ncaa
WV expected him to leave before the payoffs?! That is cold. WV needs to raise the bar on ethics

Exactly. K has a chance to finish a once in a lifetime opportunity, and you can't wait a month? Thanks for your interest.

Zach: what are you hearing or thinking about Allar: going to NFL or staying for senior year
at PSU ......?? thx.
Drew needs another year yet, Not ready for the NFL yet .
I think he's coming back for another year. Most PSU QBs don't go to the NFL until after their 3rd year as a starter.
YEA!!

Now we just need a dang #1 WR!
Maybe they can get Lonnie White, Jr, to quit trying to hit the horsehide and come to State and catch the pigskin.

I truly believe if/when Kotelniki leaves next year, Danny Obrien becomes the new OC. Very similar path as Deion Barnes

@@Frank-t3t9vyeah we need to get all those big Pennsylvania 4 an 5 star recruits WV can't afford.
Just like I don't think Duke was Manny Diaz's best-case scenario, West Virginia isn't Kotelnicki's either. Never buy short. Play the long game.

Hire Cignetti we’d be a dynasty
If we let Warren win the Ohio State game, maybe.
Drew is the 8th QB in the 2025 Draft 🤔
Maybe higher, if the Raiders are smart they will pick him
He will stay another year.
