    10:40 Whenever I pass by the hospital at the 40th St station I think of my late grandmother who passed away in 1984
    RIP Mom Mom

    1:45 - From here to Millbourne the Almond Joy motormen would give it Parallel till it reached 35 MPH, then reset the controller and quickly apply Notch 1 Series until entering the station.
    Those controllers made an audible sigh with each movement the motorman made. Easily heard outside the cab.

    That was a fun ride my favorite stations on the route were AB Blvd./46th Street, 30th Street Transportation Center, and all the CC/Downtown Philly stops.

    There's a building going up behind Millbourne Station. i havent seen any construction signs to tell what it will be though. I think a Sears Warehouse used to sit there.

    • @Shinycelebi

      It was a Sears and the building is going to be a storage facility for a Children's Hospital per article online.

      I grew up across the crik from DrexeLine in the 60's. In the Era of Graffiti-Free Almond Joys, they seemed to shriek like a white girl getting raped going 'round the approach curves. I suspect SEPTA re-laid these tracks as it's much quieter than my recollections.

    I use to live north of Bridge and Pratt, would take the El to my job at the Philadelphia Bulletin Newspaper and actually remember many of the buildings along the tracks. Arrott use to be called Margaret Orthodox. Its too bad that they tore down many of the old homes and buildings and rebuilt them to look modern. I know in some places they rebuilt the older homes to match and fit into the neighborhoods. But in my opinion they ruined the character of the neighborhoods by building these "Jetson" style structures, especially in Fishtown. I have 8mm movie film of the ride in 1974 and if I can find a projector may try and film and upload.

    • @frankebell2383
      @frankebell2383 2 года назад

      And before Market East, it was simply 8th Street with entrances to Gimbels, Lit Brothers & Strawbridge and Clothier. The station used to have private vendors selling hot dogs, soft pretzels, candy, newspapers, umbrellas & hats etc. Back then every stop had candy vending machines and transfer machines. Transfers were free then. This is when it was the PTC, Philadelphia Transportation Co. Then Septa (or as we call it, INEPTA) took over in 1968. No more vendors or vending machines. No more free transfers, no more waiting less than 5 minutes for bus or trolley or train. Now...nothing!

    @11:30 unless you are Billy Batson, do not expect anything to happen between here and the 34th Street station. Nothing happened to me when I said "Shazam!". No electric powers or ability to fly. :(
    #Shazam #billybatson #sivana #mrmind #saymyname
    But seriously, eastbound between 40th and 34th Street stations, that is where Shazam got his powers in the film. Did you know in the film, the Broad Street and PATCO line colors were switched? Fond memories of Philadelphia PA. XD

    • @Shinycelebi
      @Shinycelebi 3 года назад

      Only aerial very few shots were filmed in Philadelphia. All of the actual movie was filmed in Toronto, INCLUDING the fake Septa train which is a TTC train, nothing switched or to do with Septa other then a sticker. The platform used is closed and used for filming many many movies.

    IDK...I used to live in Chicago, and although their El system is quite a bit larger, I can't say that most of their stations are any better, cleaner, or even safer than the ones here - Especially when comparing to the stations on the lines that run within close proximity to or actually in-between the expressways in Chicago! Those are atrocious!
