I got credit for Latin in HS and German in College, but I'm learning Spanish online and with apps better than I ever learned those other languages "traditionally". Now I'm seeking fluency for conversation and don't care about grammar. It's much easier this way.

Try to learn as many words as you can. Get a book, and read every day something in Spanish, underline words, try to understand the grammatical structure. Reading everyday all sorts of texts is of huge help. Any book with help with the grammar. I like the book Intercambios edited by Thompson. ¡Buena suerte!

the double l thing is interesting. When you talk without thinking, you say y. So like yammas. But when you focus on it you say jammas. is it just an accent thing? I've heard mallorca and medellin said both ways. Will people understand me if I say cabayo or cabajo for horse?
yes, they will understand you, it will depend on how you provide context because "llama" can be both the verb "llamar" and the South American animal. There's a difference between /j/ and /ʃ/ when you pronounce "LL" which has to do with Spanish varities but that's not a problem.

Creo que deberías hablar totalmente en español, tal como lo hacen los profesores de ahí mismo que enseñan inglés. Yo escucho inglés con ellos y me sirve muchísimo porque explican todo en inglés, que es su lengua nativa, y el escuchar todo en inglés es más enriquecedor que si me explicaran todo en español. Para aprender bien, no es buena idea facilitar tanto las cosas al hablar en el idioma de ellos.

Sharlene Noora I'm not totally agree with you, she has some mistakes, my first language is spanish, truly the correct name is Castillan no Spanish because spanish is the people who born in Spain, It's like brazilians talk portuguese, they don't talk braziliense.
